Donatello

Donatello was one of the greatest sculptors in history. Many will say
Michelangelo was better, but dont forget Donatello was first. Donatello was
born c. 1386. He first got introduced to art by his father who was a member
of the Florentine Wool Combers Guild. He also apprenticed with many famous
artists including Lorenzo Ghiberti. Besides apprenticing with the artists,
Donatello never received formal education. During his years as artists, he
mostly used marble, bronze, wood, and stone for his sculptures. He generally
made statues of people. During his life he was generally accept by most
people.
I became interested in art when I was younger. I like seeing cool
pictures in books and on TV, so one day I decided I wanted to try to draw like
that. I mostly just sketched characters from my favorite shows and books. I
generally drew all of my pictures on paper. Now I mostly draw abstract things
and the occasional animal. I usually get my ideas from my head. I start by
drawing a shape on my paper, then I keep adding more shapes and lines. All
of my projects use the same shapes and colors.
Donatello was one of the greatest artists for many reason. First, he was
the first person to make an unsupported bronze sculpture. His sculpture
David was mad completely of bronze and shows the biblical hero David
standing on Goliaths head after he defeated him. The completion of the
sculpture is undocumented, but according to one theory it was
commissioned by the Medici family to be placed in Medici plaza. Second,
Donatello was very detailed in all of his works. In his Sculpture of Saint Mark,
you can see the veins in his hand. Third, his sculpture Judith and Holofernes
was is remarkable for being one of the first Renaissance sculptures to be
conceived in the round, with its four distinct faces. The sculpture is made of
bronze and depicts the assassination of the Assyrian general Holofernes by
Judith. The statue was commissioned by Cosimo de' Medici as a decoration
for the fountain in the garden of the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi. It is also the
only surviving work signed by Donatello. Finally, Donatello was the greatest,
because he came before Michelangelo, Raphael, and other great Florentine
artists.
Donatello and I are 2 very different artists. He mostly focuses on
statues of heroes from the bible. My work mostly consists of sculptures of
abstract things. I rarely ever do projects involving people. Sometimes his
work inspires me to try and make more sculptures of people. After studying
Donatello people may see more Florentine style in some of my works. Our
artistic styles are similar, because we both have a strong passion for art.
