Domestic Violence
Every day in the United States, there is a victim being abused by a family relative or by a
stranger. Domestic Violence is the violent and aggressive abusive behavior towards a person in a
relationship. The person abusing the victim tries to gain control over them. Different types of
domestic violence behaviors occur such as sexual abuse, emotional abuse and physical abuse.
According to the article, Domestic Violence: Do Teenagers Need More Protection? by Pamela
M. Prah, talks about the violence against women and teenagers being assaulted by men. She also
explains the issues of whether the federal government should do more to fight domestic violence
and protect women and teens from the suspects.
Teenagers who are victims of domestic violence need more protection. Young people are
more at risk between the ages of 16 and 24. They become a victim of being abused by their
parents, also parents who assault each other. Being in a relationship with a partner can at one
point can cause violence. This often happens to teenagers when they date in high school. The
author explains a study that showed high school boys are likely as girls to get hit, slap or
physically hurt by their partners. Prah claims that The good news is that domestic violence
against women has dropped dramatically in recent years. Now Congress has just approved a
measure that advocates say will provide much-needed finding to try to stop domestic violence
before it starts. This means that with the help of the government spending its money to shelters,

hotlines, and police training sessions has increased the safety for women and teens. I am against
domestic violence and I believe we should help these victims from being abused and create more
organizations to this important issue to end domestic violence.
In the 19th century, the U.S. laws allowed men to beat his wife with a long stick no thicker
than the thumb. The laws were influenced by 1768 the rule of thumb law. Women were viewed
as property of men. Even if women were fighting for their equal rights men still had the right to
use physical on his wife punishment. The suffrage movement in the 19th and 20th century of wife
beating was unacceptable because it caused physical violence to which womens issues
expanded. Hitting your wife as a punishment is very biased because things do not get resolved.
because In the 1970s, the womens-rights movement helped changed the behavior of handling
domestic violence and led to establish telephone hotlines, support groups for all women who
were beaten almost to death and find a home for them. Domestic violence is viewed as a crime.
In the article it mentions, in the U.S. three women are killed by their partners and thousands
more every day. It mostly happens to women because the abusers see us as weak and fear.
Women have the highest percentage of being assaulted. Once a person experience domestic
violence they are either hurt physically and emotionally. Some people keep quiet for a long time
because they feel embarrassed of their situation and they feel scared to ask for help. Abusers
make the victims feel worthless because of the way they treat them while assaulting the victim.
Some of the weak arguments that I read about the article was when it mentions the mid1980s twenty two states allowed police to make arrests without a warrant in domestic violence
cases unless an officer witnessed someone being abused of domestic violence. This was a weak
point because they can fail to protect a victims life. The federal government should definitely
fight for more domestic violence to expand it more for housing options to help women and

children find a shelter to survive. Victims who live in a public house need more protection from
their abusers; for example, a 39-year-old North Carolina was removed from her apartment
because according to her neighbors she was too loud arguing with her ex-boyfriend when he
had shot her she immediately jumped from apartment balcony to escape her his attack. These
harmful attacks women and teenagers go through are illogical because they should not be
attacked so violently. People should not have to die and suffer with domestic violence. There is
always help out there in the real world that can save someones life. Anyone can protect a person
in danger and help victims get support for them and for their family. Domestic violence needs to
come an end and prevent more protection for women and teens and to reduce sexual assault,
rape, and other violent crimes.
