MidTerm Reflection #1:

Imani Colclough
2015

1. Self-Assessment:
I think that Im a B+ student in this class because I am putting forth
the effort to learn how to become a better writer. In the past I only did
what was expected of me and I simply allow my fear of writing to
control my work. I have spent time on each writing assignment trying
to make sure that I follow the procedures as instructed. I am really
intrigued with Chriss origin story on how he came to be. Was the
Family dysfunction what drove him to want an outlet and trek on his
journey of self-discovery? We all have moments in life when we feel
fragile and that we should either run from our problems or confront
them. I want to know if you can overcome problems by running from
them or by dealing with them and how. I have followed the directions
for the assignments given thus far, and taken the time to edit some of
my journals.
2. I have been a very active participant in class I contribute in group
assignments, discussions, and I ask questions to gain more clarity. I
have been to each and every class on time. I enjoy coming to this
class and I think my attitude has shown that.
3. My extended inquiry focuses on Chris and the things that lead him to
his journey.

I think that extreme adventure makes people feel

exhilarated, alive and free. Yet I still asked myself was this simply an
escapism for Chris? Many people feel like theyre not living if risk is
not involved. I think that taking risks in life are both admirable and
selfish. I have compiled my own bucket list which includes traveling
to several foreign nations and touring the original Seven Wonders of
the World.

My bucket list comes from my deep passion and

appreciation for culture, cuisine, and history. I havent ran into any

issues with my research as of yet. So far I have done research on the

internet to determine why Chris made the decision to leave home
without a trace of where he would be, and the suffering it caused his
family. The articles I have read thus far were thought provoking and
showed me that the results of transmitting a dysfunctional family
pattern can vary. I have implemented a lot of the comments from my
classmates into my own proposal.
4. The discussions helped with my anxiety for writing and gave me more
of an understanding of the class expectancy. Shitty first drafts helped
me better understand the importance of not over thinking when it
comes to writing. To jot down my thoughts and not worry about
grammar, structure, etc. Understanding Types of Writing made me
realize how important it is to choose the proper syntax when writing
different documents such as journals, lab reports, essays, etc. I still
maintain that am not a gifted writer, and that it needs work. Into the
wild was a moving novel and movie that presented several different
life choices.

I found myself trying to understand Chris, and his

relationships with the people whose lives he impacted and the

realization of how much they impacted his life. I find myself admiring
him for being fearless and brave and despising him for being selfish,
and arrogance at the same time.

5.

My progress has been above average thus far. I have done more than
what was expected in most of my assignments. I have presented clear
and defined topics, and I took the time to explain and develop them. I
have paid attention to my audience and spent time on the details. I

have also made sure I had few grammatical errors by proofreading

several times before submitting work.

I have submitted all

assignments on time and I have come to class prepared. All of my

writings have been deemed interesting. However I could spend more
time working on my final portfolio putting more thought into the
concepts.

I hope to end the semester as above & beyond or

extraordinary, however I need to know what is expected of me to

achieve this.
