Use/relation to student learning in your unit


The students will be introduced to this unit with a
WebQuest about Christmas in Germany. The
students are paired with another classroom in
Germany. The students will prepare a list of
questions they have for the other students in
Germany. The students will share their questions
with the teacher on Google Docs., One the teacher
approves, they will email their questions to their
pen pal. The students will translate the questions
they receive and will answer them on a video chat
with their pen pal.

The students will then watch a video on either


Germany, China, Mexico, or Australia. They will take
notes on the video during Visme. They will
complete a worksheet answering questions such as,
Does the place of your choosing celebrate
Christmas? and What are the holiday phrases?
The students will use an informational holiday app
about their country, which has been downloaded to
their ipad. They will complete a review of the app
and rate it. Then list the pros and cons of the app.
They will create a bubblr about the countrys
holiday.

After they create their list, they will create a wordle.
The student will then create an online Venn
Diagram between United States traditions and their
chosen countries traditions. The Student will then
create a powerpoint on their chosen country from
lesson two and this lesson. They will include
hyperlinks to their blubbr, wordle, venn diagram,
and visme notes. They will share with the teacher

Use/relation to student learning in your unit
The student will be put into small groups and given a
country. Then the students will create a private
family Facebook page. The students will also be
using the PowerPoints the other students have made
on that country. They will take picture of their group
and upload it. They will create posts that are about
their countrys holidays. The post will talk about their
family traditions, this includes routines, traditional
recipes, clothing, and any other interesting facts.
Each student will have to create a post. They will add
other groups as friends on Facebook. Each group will
create individual online holiday card and post it the
groups wall. They will also print out their holiday
card. The students can use Microsoft or google to
create their holiday card.
Students will present their Facebook page on the
Smartboard. They must be able to connect the Ipad to
the Smartboard.

Technology use summary (This is where you address you use in the unit as a whole
remember your 4Cs)

The students are researching other countrys holiday traditions. The students will be
critically thinking during the WebQuest and the e-mail exchange with the students from
Germany. They will be creative and collaborative when creating their Facebook page and
when they create a Christmas card. The student will be in control of their learning during
this stage. The students must use good communication skills during their Facebook
presentation to the class. The students will be engaged in hands on learning during this
lesson and it will be student directed.

Students will receive detailed rubrics for their activities. The teacher will also provide hard copies and
printout of the activities. The teacher will reduce the amount of work, as needed. The teacher will
provide additional support for students who need accommodations.
