ARCHIVING / BACKUP

Model Backup/ Archiving

Archiving by definition is a collection of historical documents
or records providing information about a place, institution, or
group of people.
The purpose of creating a backup is to keep a record of the
previous state of our modeling safe before we make a further
development and to easily retrive the elements in the future
just by copy/paste or by using the transfer project standards
tools.
It has been very important for model to be archived in actual
Revit practice specially for workshared files working form the
server, because the backup file cannot retrive the previous
saved (encrypted)
To archive a stand-alone model is simple but this tutorial will
highlight on the workflow for creating an archive for workshared model. This method can also be used if models are to
be issued to other consultants for BIM analysis process (clash
detaction and etc)
Lets begin.
1. Please make sure all modeller (local copy) are synced and
the central file is up to date.

2. Close all open files from other workstations and by using

the Open... tools (not recent project) browse the location for
the updated local file.

3.Select the file, at the Worksharing options select the Detach

from Central option and select Audit ( a warning will pop, just
click Yes).

4.Click Open and Revit will ask you about your worksets.
Click on the Detach and discard worksets. This will take a
moment depends on the complexity of your Revit model.

5. Once the model is loaded, Click save.

6. Save your detached Revit model to your company Archive folder with your office file naming
convention.
7. Close all window
8. Go back to you local copy with the workshared
enabled and continue working on your project.
