Reflection

Most of us go through life viewing our experiences as isolated, unrelated events. We also
view these happenings simply as the experiences they are, not as opportunities for learning.
Psychologists refer to this type of life view as an "episodic grasp of reality" (Feuerstein, Rand,
Hoffman, & Miller, 1980), and it is not a habit we want to pass along to children. Instead, we
want students to get into the habit of linking and constructing meaning from their experiences.
The capacity to reflect, reason, and draw conclusions based on our experiences, knowledge, and
insights. Its what makes us human and has enabled us to communicate, create, build, advance,
and become civilized. Thinking encompasses so many aspects of who our children are and what
they do, from observing, learning, remembering, questioning, and judging to innovating, arguing,
deciding, and acting. Before I started this course there were a lot of rumours about how it is
difficult and hard to overcome, however my experience at first was not far from the rumours.
However I have open my mind to the course and have develop positively in terms of acquiring
useful knowledge such as technology and how it can be implemented within the classroom. I
have also learn about the International Society for Technology in Education of Standards for
teacher (ISTE) which include facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity, as such I
understand that as teacher I must engage children in real life experiences and provide the right
environment for them to explore and discover things for themselves. As it relate to the ISTE one
standard for students is Communication and Collaboration which means that students use digital
media and environment to communicate and work collaborate, including at a distance, to support
individual learning and contribute to learning of others.

I have grown in areas such as being able to create different website for myself which i thought
at first would be impossible to do, as such this course have made me realise that anything is
possible and you just need the right teaching and guidance. Examples of the different websites
are schoology, webquest, wiki, weebly etc, these websites helps me to create different things not
only technology but integrate different subject areas.
I have also gain a maximum level of knowledge on the assure model which provides a
systematic way to plan lessons that effectively integrate the use of technology and media to
enhance student learning. The Assure Model has six steps, represented by the acronym in its title
that describes a set of tasks central to the informed selection and use of educational technology.
The tasks are: Analyze Learners, State Objectives, Select Media and Materials, Utilize Media
and Materials, Require Learner Participation, Evaluate and Revise. Base on the lesson that we
got to teach during this course base on the assure model I come to realize that I must apply to my
instructional setting in the following ways. First, I analyze my students characteristics (age or
grade level, gender etc.) competencies (technical vocabulary, skills, misconceptions, etc.) and
learning styles, (slower learners prefer tactile and kinesthetic experiences). Then, I state the
objectives using the ABCD format, describing what the learners will be able to do as a result of
the instruction. For example, the sixth grade science class will identify and discuss five ways in
which water is purified after visiting the water purification plant and viewing a Power Point
presentation Water Purification using the laptop, multimedia projector, paper, and pen in 1
hour. Next, I select the methods, (brief lecture, field trip, small group activities, etc) and
media/materials, (computer, projector, pictures, tape recorders etc.) to utilize in the instruction.
Materials were previewed; the room set up, the site of interested contacted and was ready for the
visit and students given an overview of the lesson. Questionnaires were also constructed. The

instructional experience followed. Decisions as to how Ill get each learner individually involved
in the lesson (conducting interviews on field trip, recording interviews on tape recorder, creating
Power Point presentations etc.} were made. After the field trip, students created mini projects in
small cooperative groups. Feedback was given to let students know how well they are
progressing.
What I would recommend for this course is more hours allotted for the teacher-student
interaction, sometimes it is difficult for the lecturer to teach the content and at the same time
assess to the assignments which is to be done. I would also recommend for the assignments not
to be so long being that we have other courses and also the amount of time is timed tabled to
complete this course. Being that the assignment has to be fully explained in class step by step
base on the nature of the assignment, therefore it is time consuming and there is limited amount
of it.
