Trinity Academy Students Get Introduced to 3D Printing
- School Prepares for STEM-Inspired Innovation Day(October 16, 2015, Caldwell, NJ) -- Trinity Academy hosted HackNCraftNJ members Paul Modiano,
Jon Bonesteel and Frank Gibbons on Friday, October 16. Each student - from Pre-K to 8th grade spent 20 minutes of their class period with HackNCraftNJ interacting with and learning about 3D
printing and design.
One of the 3D printers on display had been made from a kit by 6-year-old with the help of his
father. Upon learning that the printer kit cost about the same as a gaming system, one Trinity Academy
student remarked, "Oh, wow. I'd much rather have the printer!"
Trinity Academys computer and technology teacher Mrs. Kim Fiore coordinated the event and
explained how this interaction is translating to the classroom, Trinity Academy's 8th grade is currently
learning to code for 3D printers using TinkerCAD. The class will be creating and printing their own
designs to be on display at our first ever Innovation Day on February 6, 2016.
HackNCraftNJ Co-founder, Frank Gibbons, had this to say about the day, It was a very
rewarding day. Its not often you can spend so much time with each child, from Pre-K through 8th
grade. It was great to see their eyes light up when you show them what is possible. You are never too
young to start.
