Introduction

HumanswereestimatedtohaveenteredNorthAmericaabout15,000yearsago.These
peoplemigratedoverBeringStrait,thiswaswidestripofland.Afterthesepeoplecrossedover
thestraightsomeheadingdownthePacificcoasttoTierraDelFuego,whileothersdecidedtogo
inland.TheUgoPeregoandAlessandroAchillioftheUniversitdiPavia,ItalyhasDNA
evidenceinmodernNativeAmericanstosupportthatthesetwodifferentmigrationpatterns
couldhavepossiblyhappened.Thegroupthattraveledinlandwalkedblindlyintotheunknown,
possiblyfollowingfood.
NevadameanssnowcoveredinSpanish.ThestateisthedriestinTheUnitedStateswith
temperatureschangingdrastically,from125*Finthesummerduringthedayto50*Finthe
winternights.Thefoodthatthese,nowknowasnativepeople,werefollowingleadthemtoa
valleytodayknownastheLasVegasValley.Weknowthattheywereherebecauseartifactsand
wallartwereleftbehind.
Thepaintingstheyleftbehindindicatedthingslikewheretofindwater,safeshelter,and
dangersthatmaybeahead.Thewallpaintingswereusedasaguideforthosewhoplannedon
passingbytousebeforeanyonehaddecidedtostayandcalltheLasVegasValleyhome.

Thesisstatement
LongbeforeColumbuslandedinthecaribbeanwhichleadtothediscoveryofAmerica,people
hadalreadylivedonthiscontinent.How,why,orwhenthoseNativestraveledtothiscontinent
aredebatedamongstarchaeologists,theonlywaytoreallyknowistostudytheartifactsfromthe
pastandlearn.InNevadathereisevidencethatthepeoplewhofirsttraveledthisgreatland
camethroughavalleyknownastheValleyofFire.Someevidenceleftbehind

Approach/methods

Wewillbeapproachinganumberofprofessionalarchaeologiststogatherinformationonthe
Nativepeoplethattraveledthroughthevalley,andeventuallysettledhere.Wewouldliketo
buildaninteractivemap,showingsomeofthewallpaintingsinthevalleyoffire.Ourapproach
wouldtoaskforpermissionfromtheadministrationintheValleyofFiretohiketowhereyou
findremanencesofthesepeople,takepictures,andwaypointstoplotamap.Thewaypointswill
betakenwithGarminssothatwehavethemostaccuratereadingpossible,sothatifpeoplewish
theymayalsobeabletoseethewallpaintingsthatareopentothepublic.Withthewaypoints
weplantousegoogleearthtobuildourmap,thiswouldallowustocreateagoogletour.Inour
tourweplantoincludeinformationonthesepeople,likeweretheymighthavegoneandwhen
theycamethroughthevalley.Weplantoincludewhathikesthesewallpaintingscanbefound
alongwithsomeotherhikestatslikeduration,iftheyareopentothepublic,andthelevelofthe
hike.Whenthemapisbuilttheplanistomakeitpublicandhaveitopensoschools,andother
peopleareabletouseitforlearningpurposes.Theparkmayalsobeabletousethismaptohelp
guidetheguestthatentertheirparkeasier,andfindwhattheywanttosee.
