CAUTION

Certain operations are optional. Before performing an optional operation, consult with the engineering
supervisor or software debugging engineer to decide whether to perform the operation. The other
operations are mandatory.
After you finish the installation, send the information about the bar code to Huawei Headquarters based
on the Tabulation for the Feedback of Bar Codes of Equipment at Stations.

Precautions

NOTE
This document provides simple and distinctive guidelines for quick hardware installation of the ATN
910I.
This document does not describe pre-delivery assembly. This document only describes procedures
for onsite installation.

CAUTION
Electrostatic Discharge
Wear ESD gloves prior to contact with the equipment or before handling the plug-boards, boards, and
IC chips to prevent damage to sensitive components caused by electrostatic discharge from the human
body.

CAUTION
Bundling cables
Binding intervals between cable ties or optical fiber binding straps inside the cabinet cannot exceed
250 mm. (Binding intervals cannot exceed 200 mm for user cables).

CAUTION
Pre-Installation Check
Verify that the equipment room, power supply, ground cables and optical cables are ready for
installation. Start the installation according to the engineering design documents after confirming that
conditions are met. Refer to the Installation Guide for information about specific operational

CAUTION

The conductor body of the power cable should be completely inserted into the 1U DC connector
to avoid an electric shock to the operator.

Ensure the circuit breaker of the PDU is OFF. Insert the DC connector into the power port of the chassis.
Ensure that the two groups of power cables are connected to different wiring terminals, and tighten the
screws of the power connector and chassis.

CAUTION

When routing power cables, make sure that the power cables are far from fibers, and network cables.

3 Installing the Power Cable (Mandatory)

b

Installing the AC Power Cable

the cable tie

NOTE
Insert the power plug, and use the cable tie to fix the plug connected to the device, preventing the
plug from getting loose or falling off. Ensure that the power cable and other cables (E1 cable, optical
fiber, and network cable) are routed in opposite directions.

Connecting the E1 Cable

M2.5

0.40.03 N.M

NOTE
When installing and routing cables, refer to the engineering document on site to install and
connect the E1 cable, service network cable, and fiber at the opposite end.

Connecting the Ethernet Service Network Cable

FE/GE5
FE/GE4

NOTE

Specify the type and quantity of network interfaces based on service requirements. It is recommended to
connect the service cables of the same type to network interfaces from the left to right.
As the Ethernet service interfaces support the adaptive function, the network cable can be either
crossover cable or straight through cable. The straight through cable is recommended.

Connecting Fibers
Precautions
CAUTION

When installing or maintaining fibers, do not look into the optical port without eye protection. See Figure 1.
NOTE

When routing fibers, take proper measures to avoid any damage to fiber connectors.
After installing the fibers, place protective caps on the idle optical ports and place fiber caps on the idle
fibers. See Figure 2. The type of the fiber connector is LC/PC.

Connecting Fibers

Specify the type and quantity of optical

interfaces based on service requirements.
Optical modules can be delivered with the
device or separately. Optical modules that are
delivered separately must be installed on the
device on site.

Connecting the Network Management Cable

NM (network management)

ETH/OAM

NOTE
The NMS cable is a serial cable and has different pin arrangement than a common network cable. When the
ATN device is powered on for the first time, use the NMS cable to connect the ETH/OAM interface (Console
interface) to establish the local configuration environment. After the configurations (such as IP address and
static route) are complete, replace the NMS cable with a network cable and use the network cable to connect
the ETH/OAM interface (Console interface) of the ATN device to the network.

Checking Cable Connectivity (Mandatory)

a

Checking Connectivity of E1 Cables

NM center

Loopback
Transmission
network

1.

An hardware installation engineer powers on the device, sets up optical paths, and informs a software commissioning
engineer in the network management (NM) center that the device is powered on and optical paths are set up.

2.

The software commissioning engineer searches for and creates NEs to ensure that the device can be managed remotely.
Then, the software commissioning engineer configures data for the site to ensure that the device is functioning properly
and alarm and performance data can be reported.

3.

The software commissioning engineer sets outloops for E1 ports on the NMS, and instructs the hardware installation
engineer to test the bit error rate (BER) using a BER tester.

If no bit errors occur or loss of signal (LOS) signals are displayed, the E1 cables are normal;

If bit errors occur or LOS signals are displayed, check whether the 2 Mbit/s cables are incorrectly connected or poor
soldering occurs.

NOTE

To check the connectivity of the network cable, you can also adopt the approach of looping back the data
ports (applicable to the data ports on two sets of equipment that is powered on). That is, connect the two
data ports with the network cable. If the LINK indicator is on, it indicates that the network cable is normal.

Installation Checklist
No.

Item

The chassis are positioned in the proper place as prescribed by the engineering design specific to the site.
When the chassis is installed in a 19-inch cabinet, make sure that the chassis does not come into contact
the front door and that the cables are not pressed against the front door when it is closed.

Each chassis component does not have any paint drop, damage, or stain. Otherwise, re-paint or clean the
component.

Cables are routed according to the engineering design, facilitating future maintenance and expansion.

Cables are not damaged or broken, and there are not any joints on the cable.

Cables are tested for connectivity.

Cables are bundled closely with proper force. The spacing between the cable ties is even. After the cable
ties are fixed, the remaining part is trimmed with no burrs.

Signal cables are routed correctly.

Cables outside the cabinet are routed as follows:

Cables are laid neatly without crossing.
If a cabling ladder is used, the cables should be bound onto the ladder beam neatly. If the cabling frame
is 0.8 m or higher than the cabinet top, a cabling ladder must be available on the cabinet top to support
the cables and to ease stress.

The cable turns are smooth and have a big bending radius.

10

Cable labels are marked correctly and firmly attached. They are aligned and face to the same direction.
The labels need to be placed two centimeters away from the connectors.

11

The power cable and grounding cable are routed separately from the signal cables.

12

Protective caps are placed on unused cable connectors for protection.

13

The protective tube for fiber jumpers is led into the cabinet and the tube inside the cabinet is about 10 cm.
If the cut end of the tube has sharp edges, wrap it using insulation tape.

14

The cut end of the protective tube for fiber jumpers is smooth and without sharp edges. If the cut end is
not smooth, wrap it using insulation tape.

15

The fiber jumpers are not tightly bound and are able to moved freely in the cable tie.

16

The connecting points of fiber jumpers are free from dust. The unused fiber connectors and optical
interfaces are protected by protective caps or plugs.

NOTE

To check tail fiber connection, you need to check the deviation of the optical power between an optical
interface on the board and the peer interface on the ODF. If the optical power meter reads a value less than
or equal to 1 dB, it indicates that the tail fiber connection is correct. Otherwise, check the fiber.
If the fiber is connected through a flange, the deviation should be less than 2 dB.
When using an optical power meter during a test, you are recommended to record the launched optical
power of each optical interface and check whether the launched optical power is normal.
Consult the project supervisor or software engineer and determine whether it is necessary to test the
received optical power by using an optical power meter, with an intention to check whether the received
optical power is normal.
