SCOPE & OBJECTIVES

1.0

Purpose of this method statement is to outline the method and material used in plastering
works in accordance with the detail shown on the approved drawings and specifications, and
will include all related activities, prior and during the plastering works.
2.0 REFERENCE
Project Technical Specification,
All related codes and standards referred in the specification.
Approved Shop drawings,
Approved Project Quality & HSE Plan.
3.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS:
Specific safety measures have to follow as applicable, and all the safety
measures are covered separately in the Project HSE Plan.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:
5.1 The Project Manager is all over responsible for the implementation of
method statement and to ensure that his team of Engineers and foreman
are aware of this method statement and that all resources human,
material and equipments are available to carry out the work as planned
and without any delay. He will also ensure all relevant permissions are
available for the works as per Abu Dhabi Municipality requirements
5.2 The Project Engineer is responsible to carry out the work as per the
approved shop drawings, method statements, contract spec. and
documents. He is also responsible to ensure adequate equipments for
concreting, finishing and curing materials are in place before concreting.
5.3 QA/QC Engineer is responsible to ensure work has been done as per the
specification and drawings; inspections are done as per IMS Procedure and
the Inspection and Test plan and offer works for consultant inspection.
5.4 The HSE Engineer is responsible to ensure that all HSE precautions are in
place, and that all personal on site are using the required Personal
Protective Equipments like Helmet, Gloves, Shoes, and Coveralls. He will
also ensure the works compliances as per U.A.E legal authoritys
requirements.

6.1

METHOD STATEMENT

Preparatory Works:-

6.1.1 Damp and clean the surface with water prior to the application of rush
coat to remove dust and reduce suction.
6.1.2 The readymade rush coat material shall be applied as per the material
manufacturers specification.
PREMIX SRC 1 (50kg bag) ready mix bonding rush coat from
SODAMCO to be use on concrete block surfaces
PREMIX SRC-2 (50kg bag) ready mix bonding rush coat from
SODAMCO to be used on all concrete surfaces
6.1.3 Mix rush coat material with water as follows
9-11 liters of water for each bag of SRC-1
10-12 liters of water for each bag of SRC-2
6.1.4 All mixing shall be done with mechanical paddle mixers till a consistent
mix is obtained
6.1.5 The mix shall be sprayed by using hand operated spraying machine and
should be used within the maximum of 1 hour after mixing
6.1.6 Cure the rush coat by mist spraying with fresh water twice a day for at
least three days
6.2

Plastering Work

6.2.1 Mix one part of cement to four part of sand by volume to adequate water for a homogenous
mix to get required workability
6.2.2 PVA based bonding agent (ADMIX 210 PV by SODAMCO) shall be mixed with mixing
water and shall be used in a ratio of 5-10% of the cement weight.
6.2.3 Mixing should be done with a motorized mechanical mixer. Mix each batch separately.
Mixers are to be cleaned between batches. Mixing of more material than it can be use
within one hour shall be avoided. All ingredients shall be measured accurately using
volume measuring containers or any suitable tool in order to control the mixed quantities
to be as per the mixing proportions.
6.2.4 Mix shall be used within one hour of mixing
6.2.5 Wash down the area to be plastered with fresh water to remove any dust and reduce
suction.
6.2.6 Ensure that plaster course is applied to a damp surface.
6.2.7 Ensure that plaster course is placed between level guide points not more than two meters
apart.
6.2.8 Apply the plaster mortar firmly to the surface ensuring no voids are left between plaster
and wall. Smoothen the surface of mortar after leveling by aluminium straight edge and
masonry trowels.
6.2.9 Plaster to receive paint finishes shall be of smooth finish and should be trowelled in a
manner, which forces the sand particles down in to the render.
6.2.10 Plaster to receive tile finishing shall be of roughened.
6.2.11 Continue curing for each coat of plaster by spraying water adequately (minimum 3
times/ day) for at least 3 days.
6.2.12 Where a type of substrate to be plastered abuts other types of substrates to be plastered,
joint between the differing substrates with metal lath extending 150 mm on each side of
joint.

6.2.13 The thickness of the plaster shall be 15-20mm


6.2.14 In case if plaster thickness is exceeding 20mm, plaster should be applied in 2
successive coats with a time gap of 24hrs.
6.2.15 Where multiple coats of plaster are to be applied, ensure that the previous coat of
plaster is sufficiently rigid to resist cracking and to be roughened to provide good bonding
with subsequent coat.

Keep the plaster splashing minimum and remove all spilled mortar around the adjacent area.
Work area shall be kept neat and tidy
Plastered wall shall be protected from and heavy leaning loads.
All completed plastering works shall be inspected and approved.

10.0 HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL PROVISIONS:


All the safe practices will be adopted during the concrete works.
Where ever the special work permit is required will be taken before commencing that
particular work.
A working platform / edge protection will be erected around the slab top for a safe and
efficient concrete works.
All the working platform will be inspected by Site HSE Engineer.
All necessary personal protective equipments to be used.
Full body harness will be provided for the labours

Proper access for the labours and equipments will be provided to the work place
Proper lighting and ventillation has to be provided at the place of the concreting.
Housekeeping will be maintained on daily basis.
A risk assessment has to be prepared and training has to be given to the site team.
