WELCOME TO CERAMICS:
Ceramics will help you develop an understanding and
appreciation of art through the study of the elements and
principles of design. Students will develop skills in ceramics and
sculpture, reflect upon the outcomes of their work, explore
historical connections, work individually and in groups, and find
direct correlation to other disciplines.
RESPECT: learn to respect all forms of art, the opinions and
talents of others, and the time and persistence it takes to develop
into an artist.
RESPONSIBILITY: be responsible for your work, materials, and
space.
RELATIONSHIPS: build relationships through discussing art,
brainstorming, and sharing ideas, thoughts, and emotions in a
positive way.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Pencil every day!
Other materials will be provided for you & you are always
welcome to bring in any of your own items.
GRADES: Grades for this class will be derived from a series of
rubrics, which you will receive the day I present an assignment.
Also, much of your grade will be determined by your effort, use of
class time, willingness to ask questions/seek help, preparedness,
and adaptability. I do not offer extra credit, as your daily work and
effort should be what determines your grade. An A+ on the report
card is earned if every assignment is exemplary and your total
score equals 100%.

Late Work:
Major project due dates are established at the beginning of the
semester and the student is aware of the due dates well in
advance. Project extensions may be granted with extenuating
circumstances (excused illness), however, late work without valid
excuse will receive a grade reduction. (-10% ea. 2 days late).

TARDINESS AND ATTENDANCE:

Good attendance is necessary to complete work on time, as many
materials may be difficult to take home. Also, arriving to class on
time and preparedness is expected. After four tardies, you will be
assigned a detention by me; after six, you will have a discipline
referral.
TECHNOLOGY USE POLICY:
Technology is to be used to assist in project research, improving
your projects, and to support your growth as an artist. Students
wasting time on electronic devices will be given one warning.
(NOTE: electronics and clay, clay slip, dust, water, glaze, etc.
dont mix well!) Listening to music is ok.
Students that are caught wasting time after a warning will meet
with the teacher in the hallway for a discussion about their
progress and behavior, refusal to try to work will result in removal
from the classroom. Multiple student removals may result in
removal from the course and loss of credit.
