Thank You For Supporting Our Christmas Charity Appeals

Thank you for supporting our various Christmas Charity
Appeals. The response from our school community, as always
has been overwhelming and we appreciate your generosity.
These monies are still being totalled and I will inform you of
the final amount at the start of Term 2.
Thank you also for your very generous support at our recent Christmas performances. As you know
collections were taken for the work of Action Cancer, Salvation Army and Angel Wishes. A total of
2000.00 was raised.

to call into the school office and collect one.

As we approach the end of term we are all looking forward to our Christmas holidays and the festivities
that lie ahead. For one of our teaching staff, Mr Rice, the end of term, also brings to a close his time in
Mossley.
Mr Rice has been a teacher in Mossley Primary School for the last 3
years and during this time he has taught Primary 6.
As well as being a classroom teacher, Mr Rice has led our schools ICT
development especially during the recent purchase of i-pads.
We are delighted that he has been appointed Vice Principal of
Ballmacash Primary School in Lisburn and know that he will make an
invaluable contribution there in this next exciting stage of his career.
The Board of Governors, staff and children wish Mr Rice every blessing in this wonderful promotion and
thank him for the contribution he has made to Mossley Primary School.

The End of a Very Busy Term

It seems only a blink of an eye since I was writing words of welcome at the start of the term and here we
are almost ready to close the doors for Christmas. Busyness seems to be an unavoidable part of
everyones life and even our children are aware of being busy in a way that previous generations didnt
seem to be. We aspire to journey together towards excellence in all that we do with and for your children.
It is our intention as a school to create a high expectation and success culture within our school
community, to enable our children to reach their full potential, to equip them to become the citizens of
tomorrow, to build leadership in-depth throughout the staff and to link home and school through the
development of a learning community.
Our children: We are delighted to have seen our new Primary 1 children settle into school and watch the
journey of all our children through to Primary 7, where this term so many navigated the challenges of
AQE. Over the past three weeks over 1000 parents, grandparents, and other family members attended our
P.T.A. Fair and more than 2000 have attended our three Christmas events. Our final performance belonged
to the KS2 children who took to the stage on Wednesday night for our annual Carol Service. This was
another great occasion that, once again showcased the talents, commitment and endeavour of our children,
and our staff , in the context of celebrating the birth of Jesus. Thank you, once again, to everyone who
took part and to those who attended. Hopefully the evening has added to your enjoyment of Christmas.
Mossley Primary School has a thriving enrolment and children to be proud of. All our recent Christmas
performances demonstrated gifts and abilities as well as a willingness to work well together. From
Primary 1 to Primary 7 our children have excelled in A Little Bird Told Me, Stable Boy and the Senior
Carol Service.

School Staff: Thanks must also go to all our staff who continue to provide so much for our children both
in the classroom and in other school activities. I am indebted to all staff and in particular to our teaching
staff for the many additional hours spent in ensuring that our children have as rich a school experience as
possible. I have confidence that their combined efforts enrich the lives of our children, our school and our
whole school community. In particular it is right to acknowledge the significant amount of additional work
undertaken in the run up to Christmas at the P.T.A. Fair and at the various Musicals.
Parents: Thank you for the many different ways in which you have supported school this term. We
recognise the important role parents take in the education of their children and indeed in the smoothrunning of a large and very busy school. We also really appreciate your attendance at all the events that
are organised in terms of Parent Information Meetings, the P.T.A. Fair and our recent Christmas Events.
We are always striving to effectively link home and school and thank you for your co-operation, support
and encouragement in all aspects of this partnership.
B.O.G. / P.T.A.: Once again, I am also really grateful for the work and support of our Board of
Governors, P.T.A. and many parents and friends associated with school who have seen opportunities to
meet genuine needs in school. We appreciate parents getting involved in their childs education because it
works and it matters. Thank you

Assembly Hall
For Primary 7 parents / guardians
For the past two years, in January, Mossley Primary School has opened its doors to sixteen post-primary
schools to participate in our Transition Fair. The schools planning to attend this year are:
Belfast High, Ballyclare High, Ballyclare Secondary, Belfast Royal Academy, Glengormley High School,
Methodist College, Carrickfergus Grammar, Carrickfergus College, Belfast Girls Model, Victoria
College, Hazelwood Integrated College, Antrim Grammar, Downshire School, and Abbey Community
College.
The fair was trialled two years ago and was deemed a success by parents, pupils, teachers and postprimary schools. Mossley Primary is always keen to develop its links with post-primary schools in order to
make transition for our Primary 7 pupils as smooth and as informed a process as possible, and the
Transition Fair helps with this process.
Why have the fair?
To inform parents/guardians and children about the variety of curriculum and extracurricular experiences offered by local post-primary schools.
To provide opportunities for children to meet with post-primary teachers and have
them answer questions.
To develop links between primary schools, post-primary schools and the community.
Lots of questions are asked, information delivered and, of course, freebies well-received!

Christmas Card Recycling

The last four years we have had a very successful Christmas card recycling scheme and we would like to
continue again this year. We realise that this does seem a little bit early but the Eco-schools team would
like to make an appeal now and ask that Christmas cards are not thrown in the bin but kept and sent to
P1R2 or P7 R24 in January (final date to follow). Your help would be much appreciated!
Thank you,

Picture of the Week

Eva McClean has just returned from the premiere of A Christmas Star on the Hollywood Walk of
Fame , Hollywood Boulevard . Eva was re-united with a number of the cast again and also Mairie
Campbell who wrote the film. At the end of the screening Joan Burney ( CEO of Cinemagic ) brought
Eva and other cast members up to the front of the theatre and introduced them to the audience . She
asked her questions about her role in the movie and Eva did really well. Her dance school also
performed on the night.
Eva thought she shouldnt miss too much school so tried to enrol in Harvard when she was visiting!
