Before I begin
Because of the society in which we live, releasing this information without a
disclaimer would most certainly get me into trouble. I do not wish to spend my
days in court for saying things that only the medical field has the right to say, so
please forgive me for this interruption.
Although the data that led to this writing was taken from the most respected
scientific journals in the world, I am legally bound to state that it is only my
opinion. I am also required to say that this information is intended only for
educational purposes and is not meant to diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, or
address in any way, any medical condition, symptom, illness, sign of illness, or
disease whatsoever. The medical profession has the monopoly on all those fancy
words, too.
It is vitally important if you are going to incorporate anything written here into
your lifestyle, that you do so under medical supervision. Even though 99% of
medical doctors have no clue about what Im about to explain, will tell you Im
wrong, will advise you against taking measures to cure yourself and get healthy,
and would much rather you just stay the course of medical treatment than
attempt to break free from their control, you should not attempt to manage your
health without the guidance of a medical professional.
If you chose to change any part of your life or actions as a result of what you read
here without consulting your medical doctor, specialist, lawyer, state
representative, clergyman, golf instructor, truck driving brother-in-law, the dental
assistant down the street, or your mom, you are solely responsible for the
outcome of your actions and hold no one but yourself accountable.
Having gotten all of that out of the way, lets begin

The Diabetes Solution

Foreword
You might be wondering if Im really serious. Some of the most brilliant minds in
the world have been trying to find a cure for diabetes for five decades and
suddenly I have the nerve to say I found it?
Thats what Im saying.
But I didnt discover anything new. The cure has always been there. The problem
is that people have more faith in medicine these days than in their own bodies. I
can certainly understand why. Sickness is so prevalent in our society that it has
just been accepted as part of living.
Get rid of that notion immediately. Sickness is not a normal part of life. At least, it
shouldnt be. It doesnt have to be. Youve already taken the first step toward a
healthier you in looking for answers.
My research into type 2 diabetes began with a desire to write an article that
would be of benefit to my diabetic readers. I had no idea at the time how complex
the journey would be, or of the vast importance that insulin has in the human
body. I am still in awe at what I have learned. This book is the result of that
research.
The key to living life in wellness and vitality starts with understanding. Part of all
the confusion in health care today lies in the fact that the patient is most often
kept in the dark about their condition. The great thing is that once you know how
your body was designed, how it works, and why it falls apart, you will be able to
wade through the mystery with much more confidence and success.
Our beliefs dictate our actions. The only way to change an action is to change the
belief behind it. And the way we do that is through understanding.

The path to wellness is outlined for you here. All you have to do is have the will to
follow it.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you plan on changing any part of your lifestyle as a result of the information
contained here, find a healthcare practitioner who is familiar with these principles
to guide you. Diabetes is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly.

The Business of Diabetes

Think of your two best friends. Statistically, one of the three of you either has
already been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or has what is known as prediabetes. Whats even more frightening is that, according to the Centers for
Disease Control, if the current trend continues, 1 in 3 people in America will have
diabetes by 2050.
Diabetes is such a common diagnosis that it doesnt even scare people any more.
However, the following statistics should alarm you. They were gathered from the
American Diabetes Association website:

Diabetes Statistics
There are 25.8 million people in the United States, both adults and children,
who are suffering with diabetes. Thats 8.3% of the population!
7 million of those have not been diagnosed.
There are another 79 million people that are on their way to being diabetic
and dont know it.
Approximately 2 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in people aged
20 years and older each year. That statistic is rising.
About 1 in 10 people over the age of 20 has diabetes regardless of gender.

The Diabetes Solution

In 2007, diabetes was listed as the cause of 71,382 deaths and as a
contributing factor in an additional 160,022 deaths. Of course, these are just
the incidents that were unquestionable.

Heart Disease and Stroke

Heart disease is a factor in 68% of diabetes-related deaths among people
aged 65 years or older.
Stroke is a factor in 16% of diabetes-related deaths among people aged 65
years or older.
The risk of dying from heart disease is 2 - 4 times greater among adults with
diabetes.
The risk of stroke is 2 -4 times higher among people with diabetes
67% of adults with diabetes are also using prescription medication for
hypertension (high blood pressure).

The Hard Truth of Diabetes

Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adults.
28.5% of adults with diabetes have diabetic retinopathy, some of whom are
heading toward severe vision loss.
Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure in the US.
About 60% to 70% of people with diabetes have mild to severe forms of
nervous system damage.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

10

11

The Diabetes Solution

More than 60% of non-traumatic lower-limb amputations occur in people
with diabetes.

Cost of Diabetes
Approximately $174 billion are spent on this disease each year and climbing.
$116 billion are direct medical costs.
$58 billion are for indirect costs (disability, work loss, early deaths, etc.)
The average medical costs among people with diabetes are 2.3 times higher
than if they didnt have diabetes.
If we factor in additional expenditures of diabetes that is undiagnosed, in the
pre-disease stages, and gestational diabetes in pregnant women, the total
cost is about $218 billion each year.
With this data in mind, how intelligent do you think it is to continue looking to the
current diabetes treatment model for the answers to this illness? Despite all of our
efforts, this epidemic continues to worsen.

What Can We Do About It?

The American Diabetes Association wants you to know that you can do your part
in eradicating diabetes by giving them money. Even though countless billions have
already been raised and decades of research have been done, no cure has been
found. Apparently they need billions more, as well as an undetermined amount of
time to win the fight, and it seems like we are more than willing to give it to them.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

11

12

The Diabetes Solution

Why do we give them all the money and time they need? Its because we dont
know what else to do. We are desperate to be saved from the stress and suffering
that accompanies this disease and all the unknowns we might ultimately face.
The truth is that medicine will never find a cure for diabetes.
Why? Because theyre not trying to cure diabetes by addressing what actually
causes it.
The body is not inflicted with disease. The body creates what we call
disease when it is forced to adapt to something it is lacking or when some
kind of toxin is present in its environment. Disease is an effect, a response,
and to reverse the effect you have to address the cause.
It all comes down to how you perceive the human body. There are two different
ways to look at it:
1. The body is inherently prone to make mistakes and will slowly begin to
malfunction and fall apart as we age. Disease is random and unpredictable
and all we can do is try our best to be healthy and hope we get lucky.
2. The body is intelligent and a miracle of life. Disease is nothing more than a
list of changes the body has made as an intelligent response to an unhealthy
situation. The bodys response is always meant to maximize life and health.
Not sure which group you belong to? Dont worry, you will. Read on
Lets say you were driving your car and suddenly the engine light came on. What
would you do? The engine light is a symptom, a warning that a deeper, more
serious issue is present somewhere. What is the best course of action in this
instance?

If we treat this problem the same way the medical profession treats disease, we
would do some kind of therapy on the light. We would disconnect it, cover it up,
or replace it, but none of these options solve our problem. Were still heading for
some kind of disaster and will be pushing our car to the junkyard long before its
time.
As ludicrous as it sounds, this is exactly how medicine approaches diabetes. They
arent interested in the underlying cause, only how to normalize the symptoms.
When they do this, the body continues to fall apart and speed onward toward a
catastrophe while the symptoms of the entire process are kept silent.
If A is the problem and B is the symptom, what good is it to spend all
of your time and money trying to improve B? This is the trouble with
using drugs to treat disease. Disease is a result, not an entity that has to
be destroyed or regulated.
You will understand the process of diabetes in the proceeding pages and the
reason why medical treatments wont ever cure this illness. Once you fully
comprehend the mechanism behind this fact, you will see clearly how you can
cure yourself.

Diabetes - A Billion Dollar Industry

Its no secret that medicine is big business. There is much more profit in the
treatment of symptoms than in a cure. Thats not to say that there arent wellmeaning people doing research and raising money to ease the suffering of others,
but those that are making the profits are naturally interested in more profits.
If the front end of your car was misaligned and the passenger-side tire needed to
be replaced every six months as a result, there is much more money in replacing
that tire over and over than in fixing the alignment problem.

14

The Diabetes Solution

Think of it
If you are prescribed diabetes medication, most likely youll have to take it for the
rest of your life simply because the actual cause of the disease is never addressed.
In fact, the cause is NEVER EVEN DISCUSSED WITH YOU!
After a time, the side-effects of the medication will cause other problems which
also need to be managed. Its not uncommon for someone using prescription
diabetes medication to also be taking 2 - 5 other drugs to control the side-effects
of the first. Not to mention, your body isnt any healthier for it. Its still falling
apart, so eventually there will be more extensive and costly procedures required
to save your body and your life.
This all equals HUGE profits.

The Race for a Cure

Despite it all, every year in thousands of cities across America, the search for a
cure goes on.
We are walking, running, biking, racing, climbing, playing, and praying for either
awareness (this one has always been peculiar to me) or a cure (which will never
be found), and none of it has gotten us any closer to our goal of living free from
diabetes.
I have many friends who work in the medical field so it is not my goal to downplay
their dedication or their desire to help the suffering masses, but shouldnt we stop
at some point and consider our current path if we are to truly bring a state of
wellness to the population? I mean, if this were a football team, the head coach
would have been fired long ago. If you keep losing games, you cant just keep
running the same losing plays again and again. Its lunacy to do so.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

14

15

The Diabetes Solution

I dont deny that medicine saves lives. I also dont deny that there is a desperate
need for it when there isnt enough time for wellness measures to take effect. But
medical care is sickness care. They have no way of keeping us healthy.
In the end, the answer to being free from diabetes is the simplest idea in the
world. We have to follow our genetic programming, and that is what this book is
about.

When we follow the principles of health that

govern our bodies, we give ourselves the best
possible chance of living a life of wellness,
happiness, and vitality. When we break those
principles, we reap the consequences.
The cure for type 2 diabetes is already inside us. Our job is to understand what
brings about a state of balance and provide the necessary components for our
bodies to work properly.
When we do, health is not something for which we must strive. It is a natural and
unavoidable outcome.

Disease Isnt Real

I already know what youre going to say.
Oh, really? Disease isnt real? Have you heard of heart disease, asthma,
osteoporosis, Alzheimers, and conditions like that? You're actually going to say
out loud that disease is not real?
Yes I am, but hear me out.
What exactly do we mean when we say someone has a disease? Is it as though
you have a new roommate taking up space in your body? Are there tiny green
monsters clawing at your tissues and biting their way into your organs?
What does diabetes look like? How much does heart disease weigh? Is asthma
gritty or smooth? What is its shape?
Disease is nothing more than a name we give to a list of signs and
symptoms that can be observed with cool, shiny instruments at your
doctors office. It is not an actual entity with physical characteristics.
Is there such a thing as darkness? No, there is not. Darkness is simply an absence
of light.
If you were sealed inside a brightly lit room and outside was a dark hallway, what
would happen if you opened the door? Would darkness spill in, or would light spill
out? Obviously, light would spill out, because darkness has no real physical
properties.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

16

17

The Diabetes Solution

If you want to make a room brighter, can you gather up all the darkness and
remove it? No, you cannot. You have to increase the amount of light to do that.
This is what I mean when I say that disease is not real. Im really saying that
disease is not a thing. It is simply the absence, or rather a lack, of health.
People who believe they can have a disease and still be healthy are sadly
mistaken. There is a chasm between the two states. You cannot be sick
and healthy at the same time.
This concept is why the medical profession has failed in finding a cure forwell,
pretty much anything. Its like trying to eliminate darkness by removing darkness.
It simply doesnt work. It will never work - ever, no matter how much research is
done or how much money is raised.

The only way to eliminate darkness is to increase

light. The only way to eliminate disease is to
increase health.
You cannot increase health by changing the symptoms of a disease.
The body is always altering itself in response to its environment. If you go out into
the cold, climb to the top of a mountain, eat a handful of grapes, or jog around
the block, your body has to change. Hormones, enzymes, and other chemicals
have to be produced in order to adapt to what you are doing.
If this didnt happen, none of us would live through the day.
So when the body alters blood pressure, insulin levels, stress hormones, heart
rate, etc., its because the body is trying to adapt. It is rarely ever a malfunction.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

17

18

The Diabetes Solution

If you run, your blood pressure goes up. Is this a malfunction? No, it is a response.
If you eat a big piece of cake, your blood sugar rises. Is this a malfunction? No, it is
a response. This is also how the body reacts to bad things we do to it and/or good
things we deny it.
What we call disease, then, is just the body responding to either a lack of
something it needs:

Good nutrition
Adequate rest
Proper exercise
Fun and relaxation
Healthy home life
Healthy emotional responses

Or to the presence of something toxic:

Chemicals in food
Factory-made food
Relationship stress
Prescription drugs
Emotional strain
Physical strain
Tobacco
Alcohol

Why Medicine Can't Cure Disease

This is why treating disease with drugs is futile and never makes anyone well.
Youre simply altering the effects of the body attempting to protect and balance
itself.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

18

19

The Diabetes Solution

As the body adapts to various stressors, the cool, shiny instruments at the doctors
office detect something out of balance (blood pressure, insulin, heart rate) or you
feel symptoms (headaches, fatigue, heart palpitations, pain, etc.) These symptoms
are what the medical profession tries to eliminate or manage with drugs. The
problem is that the symptoms are the effect.
Chronic and degenerative diseases (those that take time to develop) are an effect.
Type 2 diabetes is an effect!
Do you see why finding a cure is so difficult? This approach can never, and will
never, produce a state of health in the human body.

We will never free ourselves of disease by

concentrating our efforts on disease. We need to
explore the concept of health and how best to
move our bodies toward real wellness and
balance.
Treating disease is not health care. It is disease care. Being truly healthy is an
entirely separate topic, and so are the means of achieving it.

The Health Chasm

I did an informal survey not long ago where I asked a hundred people to list the
five most important things in life. The answers varied, as you can imagine, but a
few of the same responses were given repeatedly by people in every age group
and category.
God was the most prevalent first answer. Family was always in the top three as
well. And good health was understandably given in 98% of the replies. No one
wants to hear their doctor say the words cancer or diabetes or any of the
hundreds of other diseases that are so prevalent in our culture today.
Even though staying healthy is so important to so many of us, it is rare to find even
one person who is not medicated for some condition or another. And let me be
clear:

If you are medicated, you are not healthy, plain

and simple. You cannot have a disease process
and be well at the same time.
People tend to think of health and disease as being polar opposites. That is, if they
arent suffering from a disease right now, it is assumed they must be well. Nothing
could be further from the truth, because health and disease are not two sides of
the same coin. Its not a heads or tails concept.
Disease is something that occurs only after the body has lost a state of balance
over time. A person is not sick the very day a tumor appears or they have a
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

20

21

The Diabetes Solution

heart attack. It takes years to cross that chasm between health and sickness, for
degenerative illnesses to get bad enough to be detected.

In essence, you dont lose your health because

you develop an illness. You have to be unhealthy
already for the body to get sick.
Imagine youre standing on the fifty yard line of a football field. The field
represents the state of your current physical condition. The right end-zone
represents total wellness and perfect function. The left represents disease.
If you are standing in the middle, are you healthy regardless of how you feel?
Youre not in the health end-zone, but youre not in the disease end-zone
either. So you are neither healthy nor have you developed a disease. Most of us
are standing somewhere in the long length of the field, not really feeling too
bad, not really suffering from any major symptoms or issues, but not healthy by
any means.
If the cells of your body are pure and well-nourished, youre in the health
end-zone. If they are not, youre slowly but surely moving down the field
toward disease. As soon as you step foot toward the disease side, youre
no longer healthy.
My point is that there is a giant chasm between health and sickness. You dont just
move from one to the other overnight. If you eliminate the symptoms of your
disease, by having surgery or taking drugs, you dont automatically go from one
end of the field to the other. You can be standing on the fifty-yard-line feeling
absolutely terrific, but that doesnt mean youre healthy.
This is why medical recommendations for just about everything are rarely
sufficient to produce a state of health in us. Their studies are always based on how
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

something affects disease, not whether it makes a person healthy. They are two
entirely different things.
For instance, they have found that 30 minutes of exercise on a daily basis can
reduce the symptoms of hypertension, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, heart
problems, diabetes, and even some cancers. Now here is the problem
Simply adding something to your life that lessons your disease does not take you
all the way down the field, crossing that huge chasm of empty space, to health.
It may only take you to the thirty-yard-line. So does it make you healthy? No, it
doesnt.

There Are No Levels of Bad

I hear people say things like this all the time:
Well, a little bit of something good is better than nothing.
No, it isnt.
Well, I always get the chicken sandwich at McDoofuss because its
healthier than a burger and fries.
No, it isnt.
There are no levels of bad when it comes to what you put in your body. One
unhealthy food is not better for you than another unhealthy food. Its either
healthy or it isnt. Its either toxic to your cells or it isnt. It either moves you
toward the health end-zone or toward disease.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

22

23

The Diabetes Solution

Its like saying its better for you to smoke one pack of cigarettes a day instead of
two. Thats absurd! There is no such thing as a toxic activity that is better for you
than another.
Crossing the chasm is quite simple. Whenever youre making a decision about an
activity or something youre going to put into your body, ask yourself which
direction on the field youre going to move as a result.
The game is won one yard at a time.

The Gene Myth

For years we have been told (and weve therefore believed) that our genetic
makeup has close to everything to do with our limitations in countless areas of our
lives, especially our health. We have been told that we have diabetes because our
father and grandfather had diabetes. We believed that our chances of developing
cancer and heart disease were so much greater because these illnesses run in our
families. Whats worse, there is very little to nothing we can do about it. Our
genes are our genes, luck of the draw, just the way it is, sorry you were dealt such
a bad hand.
Scientists in the field of epigenetics disagree!
Let me repeat that
scientists say that heredity is NOT the reason we develop degenerative disease.

The Gene Theory - Busted

Only .1% of diseases are classified as actual genetic disorders. That means that
99.9% of the illnesses from which we suffer have some other cause!
On top of that, our genetic code hasnt changed in the last 40,000 years! Our
genes are the same as our hunter-gatherer ancestors. If that is the case, why
have we seen such an explosion of so-called genetic disease in the last century?
Why are we suffering from degenerative illnesses while they did not? Diabetes is
virtually non-existent in these same societies existing today same genes.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

24

25

The Diabetes Solution

Whenever I ask this question, immediately someone answers, Because they only
lived to be 20 or 30 years old.
In many cases they didnt even survive into their teens, but research shows that
they rarely died from any of the diseases prevalent today.
The main causes of death back then were starvation and a lack of emergency care.
If you broke a leg, cut yourself, or contracted an infection from an animal bite, you
were pretty much toast. However, according to anthropologists today, those that
did make it into their 60s and beyond (about 20%) showed nearly zero signs of
diabetes, heart disease, cancer, or related illnesses.
Listen carefully, all genetic theory is simply that a theory, just an attempt to
explain why we get sick, but somewhere along the way it has been accepted as
truth. Weve been hearing about it for so long that we believe it without question,
so much so that we often fail to take personal responsibility for our health
because weve been told that illness just happens by chance and is inevitable as
we age (degenerative).
The field of epigenetics is tearing that theory to pieces.
The American Institute for Cancer Research has stated that up to 70% of
cancers can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle! (This could not be true if
cancer was purely genetic).
The American Heart Association says that the number one reason people
suffer from heart disease and strokes is that they are not dedicated to a
heart healthy way of life. (No mention of genes here.)
This is huge! It means that you are not destined to follow in your parents
footsteps, that you are not doomed to suffer from the same ailments and
illnesses that your parents and grandparents did.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

25

26

The Diabetes Solution

The entire way we view health is changing and that is good news for diabetes
sufferers because it forces us to look at disease in a different way.

The First Error in Healthcare

A long time ago, someone put some diseased human tissue under a microscope.
This was probably the single most important moment for the future of science and
medicine because the conclusions that were made from this simple act shaped
how we would approach disease in the decades to come.
They looked at this diseased tissue and saw all these microscopic bugs eating
away at it. At this point, they drew a conclusion. They assumed that these bugs,
which later became known as bacteria, were causing the tissue to be sick.
If that was the case, they had to devise some way to kill the bacteria that was
attacking the tissue. Kill the bacteria, problem solved, and as a result we now have
the most amazingly powerful drugs to kill nearly every type of bacteria known to
man.
What evolved from this was the theory on which the medical profession bases
everything they do. They believe that bacteria and viruses get into us from
outside, take over, and make us sick. The only way to save ourselves, because we
are so weak and because the body malfunctions so often, is to have an arsenal of
drugs to combat these ever invading organisms.
But here is a very important fact:
Bacteria are not our enemy. They are the janitors of the body. They walk the halls
cleaning up messes and picking up the trash. They were eating up the poisons and
toxins that accompany dying flesh.

The Diabetes Solution

If you were walking down the street and happened upon a dead animal infested
with maggots, would you assume the maggots killed it, or would you know that
they were simply eating the decaying matter? Do you see the difference? Can you
make the animal well again by killing the maggots? No way!
Do you see how that changes everything? The tissue under the microscope was
sick for an entirely different reason and killing the bacteria could never (and will
never) bring about a state of health.
There are ten times more bacteria in your digestive tract than there are cells in
your body! What does that tell you? If you believe your body is prone to error and
sickness, it tells you youre in big trouble. If you believe your body is intelligent, it
means that bacteria has a purpose and is vitally important.
The truth is it is supremely important! Most of your immune system is made of
bacteria and is found in your intestines. This is why antibiotics are so
controversial, because they kill your immune system and make your ability to fight
illness harder in the future.

You Arent Really You Anyway

We can apply this same understanding to the theory of genetics. If you study the
DNA of 1,000 people who have diabetes, you will find similar variations in their
genetic code. So what does this mean? Well, to medicine it means that these
people got some bad genes from their parents and now they have diabetes
because it was passed down to them.
But this is not the case!
Look at it like this: were all born with the same set of books (genes) that contain
the recipes for making chemicals our cells need. If your cells are healthy and
functioning in ease, they will read one set of books and you will live life in health
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

27

28

The Diabetes Solution

and vitality. If the cells become stressed or faced with an unhealthy situation, they
will begin reading different books in order to restore balance.
Healthy cells = correct books = healthy function.
Unhealthy cells = wrong books = disease (imbalance).
Please understand that there is no malfunction here. Since the cells have become
sick, the body must change the way it works to adapt and still live as best it can.
The only way to prompt the body to read the right books again is to restore
health to the cells. How do we do that? Well cover that in the chapter entitled
The Diabetes Solution.
When you look in the mirror, you simply see the beautiful, perfectly-crafted
human specimen that you are. But in actuality you are a community of 50 trillion
cells all working together for the benefit of living and thriving.
Every single one of those 50 trillion cells does everything you do: They eat,
breathe, get rid of waste, metabolize, adapt, assimilate, reproduce, and they even
have a memory and the instinct to survive.
Your genes actually change according to how each cell reacts to what is going on
around it. They will turn on and off, and replicate or not, depending on which set
of books your cells are reading.

The point I am trying to make is that it is the

environment that changes the genes, not the
genes that create the environment. In other
words, the genes dont make your cells sick, sick
cells change the genes.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

28

29

The Diabetes Solution

If the body is truly intelligent, then this would make sense. Since each cell has the
ability to adapt, they will change how they function depending on what is
happening around them. The cells will either thrive and express health (in a
healthy environment) or protect themselves and adapt (in a toxic environment).
This completely destroys the theory of heredity! On top of that, it is great news
because it means that whatever is causing diabetes is something within our
control.
The bottom line is this: You can indeed shape the next 30, 40, or 50 years of your
life. The future is not set in stone. This even means that the chronic and
degenerative diseases your doctor has told you are yours for life arent necessarily
so!

Two Causes of Illness

Consult any kind of medical text or website these days and you will likely be
overwhelmed by the seemingly countless variety of illnesses that can afflict the
human body. The Merck Manual, which lists every disease known to man,
contains over 2,800 pages of diseases and conditions.
For every one of the thousands of conditions with which you can be diagnosed,
there are thousands of different types of drugs that can be prescribed to treat
you, and often dozens for the same ailment.
How daunting it must be to be a medical doctor these days, trying to sift through
all that confusion to uncover the one cause of a patients illness and then the one
treatment that will best eradicate it. From what I hear, the typical medical remedy
nowadays consists of, Try this drug. If it doesnt work, well try something else.
very scientific.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

29

30

The Diabetes Solution

Most medical doctors, as well as the authors of the Merck Manual, would laugh at
me if I suggested that there are only two causes of illness. It doesnt change the
fact, however, that its true.
Imagine you have two ponds. One pond is fed naturally by rainwater, runoff, plant
life, fish, insects, and all other natural environmental sources. The other pond you
feed with artificial sugar, soda, and various other chemicals made in a factory.
At first, you will see no difference in the two ponds. They will appear on the
surface to be the same. But after ten, twenty, and thirty years, there will be a
marked difference. All the plant and sea life will die in the second pond. The body
of water itself will be toxic.
When this same kind of poisonous assault is waged on the human body, it
must adapt. Chemical and hormonal changes must occur. The very
function of the body is altered because it will try to sustain itself the best
way it can.
High cholesterol, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, allergies, chronic fatigue,
asthma, ADD, and all the other diseases of today do not just happen to people.
There is always a reason, and research shows that the reason is rarely ever
genetic.

Deficiency and Toxicity

These are the only two conditions that drive a cell away from health: deficiency
and toxicity.
If you were a plant, there would be some very specific things you would need in
order to be healthy, namely water, fertile soil, and sunlight. Will you die instantly
if you lack (deficiency) one of these vital nutrients? Absolutely not. You will show
signs of sickness, slowly over time, until your system simply cant take it anymore.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

30

31

The Diabetes Solution

If you were given fertile soil and water but were kept in the dark, you wouldnt
have everything you genetically need to live and you would get sick and die early.
In the same way, if you indeed had all the necessary components for health, yet
you were being poisoned (toxicity) in some way, you still perish before your time.
This is a simple way to explain how the body gets sick. It either lacks something it
needs (deficiency) or its being poisoned by some kind of toxin (toxicity). Of
course, a combination of the two will simply accelerate the process.

Over time, being deficient and toxic, the ability

for your body to sustain proper function of cells
and organs is severely compromised.
When we add massive amounts of sugar, caffeine, manufactured foods, and all the
other artificial chemicals people ingest, you might begin to wonder how we live
very long at all.
The old saying you are what you eat is very true. If there is nothing good with
which to make eye tissue, liver tissue, or heart tissue, your body must then use
junk to build and run your body. Over time, your body becomes junk, too.
But the body has an incredible ability to adapt. And when it adapts, our chemistry
gets out of balance. When our chemistry is imbalanced, we call the effects
disease.
In the chapter The Cause of Diabetes and Insulin Resistance, well discuss how
the body develops blood sugar and insulin problems. Once we understand it, we
can begin to reverse it and get on the road to wellness.

Healthcare Like A Caveman

In 2007, the American Institute for Cancer Research released an Expert Report
which took 6 years to produce and was compiled from over 7000 scientific studies.
The report concluded that up to 70% of cancers can be prevented through diet,
physical activity, and weight management.
From this report, they devised a list of recommendations for cancer prevention
which included
Reducing sugar intake.
Eating a variety of fresh, whole fruits and vegetables every day.
Limiting alcohol and red meat.
The American Heart Association has named cardiovascular disease as the #1 cause
of death in America and stroke as #3. Their website states the following:
One reason these statistics are fact is undeniably a lack of commitment to
a heart healthy lifestyle. Your lifestyle is not only your best defense against
heart disease and stroke, its also your responsibility.
Can you imagine the millions of lives that would be spared, the billions of dollars
that would be saved, and the countless years of suffering that would be avoided if
our health care system - with all its influence and money - acted on this
information?
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

32

32

The Diabetes Solution

It would literally change the world.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

33

33

The Diabetes Solution

Shouldnt we be teaching these concepts to our kids as early as they can

understand them? Heck, shouldnt we be teaching them to adults? The majority of
people in America are not very well educated on proper lifestyle habits and it is
costing us dearly in both money and lives.
You dont have to be a genius to see that our sickness care system has failed to do
anything about restoring health to sick people.
The reason is that they dont know how.

Changing or reducing a disease process is not the

same thing as restoring health. Your health does
not increase just because the symptoms of a
disease decrease.
That is why drugs cannot, and wont ever, bring about a state of balance and
homeostasis in a sick human body.
Our sickness care system is having so much trouble curing disease because
they have no idea what health looks like. They havent studied it. They
think if all the charts look good, youre fine.
Im not aware of any research studies being conducted on healthy people to
discover what made them healthy and how they can stay that way. Medical
research focuses on symptoms, pathology, and which intervention will change
those symptoms and pathologies.
THIS IS NOT HEALTH CARE!
For the past two decades, research done by anthropologists has shown that our
Paleolithic ancestors (cavemen) lived much healthier lives than modern day
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

34

34

The Diabetes Solution

humans and they ultimately left us a blueprint for living well and disease-free. Of
course, Im not advocating that wearing animal skin, sleeping on rocks, and
allowing insects to make a home in your hair is actually living well by any
standard, but studies show that these hunter-gatherer societies were virtually free
of the chronic and degenerative conditions that are so rampant in our world today
and they had the same genes as we do.
Scientists today tell us that those who survived animal attacks, injuries, starvation,
hostile tribes, and infection, and even groups residing in hunter-gatherer societies
existing today that have access to urgent care facilities, lived mostly free from the
many health issues that torment industrial America.
In fact, the average lifespan of an individual living today in the same type of
lifestyle as our Paleolithic ancestors can reach more than 80-100 active and
healthy years.
This does not make me want to rush out and fight a cougar with my bare hands or
pick mysterious berries from a bush and eat them for dinner, but perhaps there
are a few things we can learn from our disease-free caveman predecessors.
Boyd, M.D. reported in the New England Journal of Medicine that:
The human genetic constitution has changed relatively little since the
appearance of truly modern human beingsabout 40,000 years agoand
even the development of agriculture 10,000 years ago has apparently had a
minimal influence on our genes.
So our genes havent changed, but it has only been recently (about the past 100
years) that so-called genetic disorders have become so prevalent.
In an article Published in the January edition of the 2004 Mayo Clinic Proceedings
Journal, scientists reported that:
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

35

35

The Diabetes Solution

Accumulating evidence suggests that this mismatch between our modern

diet and lifestyle and our Paleolithic genome is playing a substantial role in
the ongoing epidemics of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and
atherosclerotic heart disease, and that, Historical and anthropological
studies show hunter-gatherers generally to be healthy, fit, and largely free
of the degenerative cardiovascular diseases common in modern societies.
Little by little over the years we have moved further away from living according to
our genetic programming. Since our bodies simply cannot adapt to the unnatural
things we do to them and the unnatural things we put into them, they create
sickness.
Ill health is not as much of a mystery as its been made out to be. There are very
identifiable causes for what ails us and Ill tell you that it is not a lack of expensive
drugs in your system or too many body parts.
The most important thing you should know is that it is never too late to have
health like a caveman. Every single change you make toward living well brings you
closer to a disease-free life.

The Cause of Diabetes and Insulin

Resistance
It is important for anyone who is suffering from a chronic ailment like insulin
resistance, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure, to
understand the role of insulin in the body. Insulin has such a complex purpose that
when its levels are out of balance, literally dozens of disease processes can result.
One thing I would like to make clear at the start is that if you are
struggling with type 2 diabetes or any of these other conditions, you can
improve your health and even make yourself well again. You are not
doomed to suffer with these ailments if youre willing to make some
changes and make your health a priority.
Better yet, if you teach your children these principles, they can avoid these same
illnesses and keep their health intact as they grow.
The first thing you have to do is recognize the part you played in this process.
This was not a chance occurrence that struck you for no reason. Your parents did
not do this to you and neither did some random defect in your DNA. Dont be
offended, dont get down on yourself, and dont close your mind. Taking
responsibility for your lifestyle is the first step in getting well.
Many people believe they live healthy when in fact they do not. YOU ARE BEING
MISLED! At the end of this book there will be no doubt in your mind how to
proceed in achieving wellness.

The Role of Insulin

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

38

37

The Diabetes Solution

Insulin is actually a hormone and does some pretty cool things.

In fact, there is not one hormone in the body that

insulin does not either control or affect in some
way.
So insulin is not only a factor in diabetes, but also dozens of other diseases from
which so many millions of people suffer.
Lets review the following process so you understand how blood sugar and insulin
work
When you eat, your body will identify some of the food as containing nutrients
that it can use for energy. If there is more energy material than the body needs at
that time, your blood sugar will rise. Insulin will then be released by the pancreas
to store those excess nutrients for future use.
This was very important to our ancestors who had to hunt for food
because their ability to find something to eat wasnt always consistent.
They had to be able to draw upon energy stores to survive.
Here is the important part: A small amount of the excess is stored in the liver and
muscles as glycogen, but even combined its not enough to power your body for
more than a day. Once the storehouses are full, the body has to do something
with whats left over, so it deposits it as fat.

This is why the high carbohydrate, low fat diet

recommended by the medical profession is
deadly. Its nothing but a high sugar diet, most of
which is going to be stockpiled as fat.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

39

38

The Diabetes Solution

You might be wondering why your body, if it is indeed intelligent, would store fat
in your cells, and the answer is it has no choice! The problem is not that the body
is storing fat. The problem is the excess that is being consumed. Your body has to
do something with it. It doesnt just vaporize.

This can be stopped only by eating foods your

body can use as fuel, and only eating amounts
that your body can use at one time.
So what causes diabetes? The medical profession thinks it is either a defect that
makes the body unable to produce insulin, or that the cells just ignore (this word
is actually used on the ADA website) insulin for some unknown reason which
makes sugar build up in the blood.
If we go back to our question of whether or not the body is intelligent, our answer
will determine our fate.
1. If we believe the body is prone to error and randomly falls apart as we age,
were pretty much doomed to the same course of treatment that exists
now. We take prescription drugs, hope to keep our limbs and eyesight, and
attempt to live as long as the disease will allow.
2. If we believe the body is intelligent, we must conclude that there is a good
reason for this process. If the body is altering chemical and hormone levels,
it must be an attempt to adapt to some kind of danger to the system.
Number 2 is exactly correct, and if that is the case, we can correct the problem
once we understand it.

What Causes Insulin Resistance

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

40

39

The Diabetes Solution

Here is how and why your cells come to ignore insulin and why the pancreas
seems to just quit its job one day.
Imagine you are a cell in your own body. All over you are tiny finger-like things
called receptors that protrude out into your environment so you can tell what is
going on around you. Much like the feelers on an insect, receptors sense what is
happening and relay that information to you.
This is a very important function. Just like your eyes tell you to dodge a careening
softball or your sense of touch makes you pull your hand away from a hot stove,
your receptors give you the information you need so you can adapt to your
surroundings, protect yourself, and stay healthy. They also allow the exchange of
some nutrients so you can get the nourishment you need to function.
Here is what happens
You are just traveling along doing your work, being the very best cell you can be,
and suddenly a surge of sugar enters the bloodstream in the form of
carbohydrates, glucose, fructose, etc. There is much more than what the body can
use at the time, so blood sugar rises and insulin gets released to store what is left
over.

It is a common misconception that the purpose of

insulin is to lower blood sugar. It is not. The
purpose of insulin, as it pertains to blood sugar, is
to store excess nutrients that the body is not able
to use.
Now, too much insulin is not healthy for you. In fact, its toxic, so you are going to
have to do something to keep yourself safe.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

39

40

The Diabetes Solution

The carbohydrates and sugars keep coming and blood sugar levels continue to rise
as a result, so the body is releasing more and more insulin to deal with it all.
Insulin levels keep rising and rising and the environment is becoming poisonous to
you. What can you do? If you dont do something you will be in danger.
So you do the only thing you can do. You start shutting off (or down-regulating)
some of your receptors, making them resistant to the onslaught. It is an act of selfdefense. This is called insulin resistance and is an attempt by the cell to save
itself. The more insulin is present, the more receptors will be shut off.
The body is not ignoring insulin for some unknown reason here. It is
protecting itself from rising levels of something toxic. If you were in a flooding
room, you would close off as many portals as possible through which water was
flowing in. Insulin resistance is just like this.
Insulin resistance is now considered a major factor in just about every
chronic illness that is a leading cause of death in the West.
Insulin resistance just makes the pancreas have to release more insulin to do the
same job, which causes more cells to become resistant, which makes the pancreas
work harder and harder and the cycle continues. Eventually the pancreas cant
keep up and the result is diabetes.
So what caused this? Was it a spooky, mysterious error in your genes or a lack of
expensive drugs in your bloodstream? Did your body just suddenly fall apart for no
reason because you turned a certain age? Absolutely not! It was a natural reaction
to a situation that the body sees as dangerous to the system.
Does the medical profession know all this? YES IT DOES!!!
The food we eat these days, which is mostly highly processed, high-carb, low-fiber
meals and snacks, causes a rapid blood sugar spike and a resulting rapid release
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

40

41

The Diabetes Solution

of insulin, which leads to insulin resistance by the cells. So we have high amounts
of sugar in the blood and high amounts of insulin in the blood.
As you can see, insulin resistance is not a malfunction. It is an intelligent
response by the body to adapt to an unhealthy condition.
So, someone answer this question for me
How did anyone ever come to the conclusion that giving insulin to diabetics was a
good idea? This is not a blood sugar problem, it is an insulin problem, and medical
doctors are introducing into an already toxic system more of what is poisoning it.
Will you ever get better from this course of treatment? Not in a million years!

Effects of Insulin Resistance on the Immune System

Youve heard it a million times. If youre getting sick, take Vitamin C.
First, vitamins arent a treatment and shouldnt be used as such. Neither should
food. We add good things to our diet because we want to nourish ourselves, not
because were trying to treat a disease. When you begin taking a certain
supplement because youve been diagnosed with a specific illness, you reduce
them to just a much less effective form of medication.
Vitamin C is indeed an essential nutrient to the immune system and is almost
identical in structure to (and actually made from) glucose (sugar). What is even
more interesting is that they both enter your cells through the same receptors.
They literally compete for their way in, like two people trying to get through the
same doorway.
So if there is a lot of sugar in the blood (this includes carbohydrates from pasta,
rice, potatoes, bread, chips, cereal, and most processed foods because theyre

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

41

42

The Diabetes Solution

broken down into glucose during digestion), there are fewer doorways for Vitamin
C to get into the cell.
In this instance, if you were Vitamin C trying to get through the door to nourish
the cell, there would already be this big fat sugar-idiot standing there blocking
you.
This makes it almost impossible for V itamin C to help you fight off any
type of infection.
This is partly why eating sugar depresses your immune system. The issue isnt that
people are necessarily lacking Vitamin C, they are simply toxic with sugar and the
proper nutrients cant get to the cells. All the Vitamin C in the world wont fix this,
only freedom from the toxins will.

Effects of Insulin Resistance on Blood Pressure

When it comes to blood pressure, magnesium plays an important role in a couple
of ways:
1. Magnesium is needed for the production and drive of insulin, as well as for
metabolism.
2. Magnesium relaxes muscles.
When muscles and tissues need more blood (for oxygen) for whatever reason,
perhaps because you are exercising, anxious, in danger, or even climbing a flight of
stairs, your body will trigger muscles in the walls of your arteries to constrict and
cause your blood pressure to rise. This results in more blood being delivered to
the body more quickly.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

42

43

The Diabetes Solution

When your situation normalizes, magnesium will help the muscles in the blood
vessel walls relax so blood pressure can return to normal. But, high insulin will
cause you to excrete magnesium in your urine.
What does this have to do with high blood pressure? If your body is excreting
magnesium, the muscles in the blood vessels wont be able to relax and will stay
constricted, making your blood pressure remain high.
It will also lower the effectiveness of insulin, increasing the bodys need for more.
Check out this vicious cycle
1. High insulin causes insulin resistance.
2. Insulin resistance causes magnesium loss.
3. Low magnesium causes blood vessels to remain constricted, keeping blood
pressure high.
4. Low magnesium prohibits insulin from getting to tissues.
5. Lowered drive and effectiveness of insulin causes a need for more insulin.
6. More insulin causes more insulin resistance.
7. And the cycle continues.
To make matters worse, high insulin causes you to retain sodium. Sodium makes
you retain water. Water retention causes high blood pressure. High blood
pressure and fluid retention leads to heart disease and an early grave!

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

43

44

The Diabetes Solution

So how are drugs going to fix this? They cant. The

body is not malfunctioning. It is doing the best it
can, given the situation. Medication may
normalize high blood pressure but it will not fix
the imbalance that is causing it.
Yes, high blood pressure is dangerous, but if you simply allow the drugs to give
you a false sense of security with your state of health, nothing is going to improve.
You simply must take the necessary steps outlined in this book to restore balance
to your system. Otherwise, youre heading for disaster.
One thing I should also mention is that high blood pressure is a common sideeffect of many medications. I would strongly urge you to look into the drugs youre
taking if youve been diagnosed with this illness.

Effects on Insulin Resistance on Cholesterol

Have you ever noticed that diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol
always seem to go hand in hand? Thats because they are all being caused by the
same lifestyle issues in many cases. These issues are not hereditary.
The main factor here is LDL. There is really no use in knowing what LDL stands for
unless you are a biologist or simply a glutton for punishment.
LDL plays the biggest role in producing the plaque that builds up in your arteries.
The cells in the walls of your arteries do not become insulin resistant so they
cannot protect themselves if insulin levels get too high. High insulin makes these
cells divide more rapidly and, as a result, the plaques develop and grow.
Plaques ultimately make a heart attack or stroke more likely because they impede
blood flow.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

44

45

The Diabetes Solution

This is why eating cholesterol-free foods doesnt make much of a difference
in lowering LDL. The problem is not an overconsumption of cholesterol. Its
an over consumption of the types of foods that damage arterial walls and
make us insulin resistant. In actuality, cholesterol-free foods are processed,
full of chemicals, and horribly unhealthy, plus they cause the liver to produce
MORE CHOLESTEROL.

How is that for irony?

Effects of Insulin Resistance on Your Bones (Osteoporosis)

Losing bone mass as you age is not normal. There are three processes in play
when it comes to insulin that contributes to bone loss.
1. We talked earlier about how too much insulin in the blood causes the body
to excrete magnesium in the urine. Well, it will also cause the body to
excrete calcium, as well. Not good for keeping bones strong.
2. When liver cells are insulin resistant, the manufacturing of growth
hormones responsible for stimulating bone growth is lowered. This means
the body will not be producing as much bone as it should.
3. Calcium is also very important in keeping blood pH at a healthy level. A
normal pH level is about 7.4, which is slightly alkaline (basic). If your pH is
too acidic (low, which is a great environment for cancer and arthritis) your
body will dump calcium into the blood to offset the imbalance. Can you
guess where it gets the calcium? Exactly! Your bones!
None of this is the result of not getting enough calcium.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

45

46

The Diabetes Solution

Taking calcium supplements is useless if you are

eating a high-carb diet and are insulin resistant.
Most of the calcium you take orally will just end up being flushed down the toilet
if you are insulin resistant. Supplements will not fix this.
The best source of calcium is calcium-rich foods like broccoli, kale, spinach,
Brussels sprouts, collard greens, bok choy, almonds, Brazil nuts, salmon, sardines,
etc. This is the type of calcium the body can actually use. Exercise is also
imperative. The more you stress your skeletal system, the stronger it becomes.

Effects of Insulin Resistance on Your Thyroid

Most people who have a thyroid condition would never guess that the problem
could be originating in the liver, and unfortunately most medical professionals
wouldnt either.
Your thyroid produces a chemical called T4, which is an inactive form of thyroid
hormone. From there, it goes to the liver where it is converted to T3, which is the
active form. If the liver cells are (you guessed it) insulin resistant, the liver cannot
change T4 to T3 and that results in hormone imbalance.
It never seems to end, does it?

Effects of Insulin Resistance on Aging

No one dies of old age any more.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

46

47

The Diabetes Solution

I say this because old age according to our genetic programming is supposed to
be at about 120 years. That is when the process of cell division is supposed to slow
down and stop.
So why do we, in our present day and time, age so quickly? Why do so few people
actually make it to their 120th birthday?
It is because were causing our cells to divide faster than they are programmed
to. This is a product of both genetic and environmental stressors. Your cells only
get to divide a certain number of times. When they are done, so are you!
So how does insulin contribute to this process?
1. A high carbohydrate/sugar diet causes there to be an increased level of
insulin in the bloodstream.
2. One of the many purposes of insulin is to stimulate cell division.
3. Higher levels of insulin will cause cells to divide more rapidly.
4. So high insulin levels increase the rate at which we age.
Now, our cells dont live to be 120 years old. Different cells have different life
spans. Liver cells live longer than red blood cells, skin cells live longer than
stomach cells, etc. So your cells are always dying and being replaced, every second
of every day.
To age at a normal pace, the cells have to divide according to their programming.
We do this, in part, by keeping our insulin levels low throughout life by adopting a
genetically sound lifestyle.

When your cells do any type of work, they can combine with either oxygen or
sugar. This is not a problem if the body is pure and well nourished. If it isnt, free
radicals can be produced which are toxic and poisonous.
However, there is a natural and magical remedy for these bad, nasty free radicals.
Inside these miraculous and delightful things called fruits and vegetables,
there are thousands and thousands of even more wonderful things called
antioxidants which counteract the byproducts of our cells doing work! They
actually destroy the free radicals which cause the body to break down.
AMAZING!!!

Nature has already provided us with the best

tools to prevent disease! But even better than
preventing disease, these same things actually
allow the body to produce a state of health
something that drugs and surgery can never do.
Have you ever heard about someone who began taking some supplement that
they say contained some superfood that cured them of their health problems?
Well, there are no miracle cures in any vitamin pill or liquid, or any kind of fruit or
algae that can only be found on a secret mountaintop in T ibet or in the jungles of
the South Pacific. Health is just what occurs when you nourish the body properly.
When your genes get what they are programmed to need in order to
express health, they naturally and innately bring the body back to
homeostasis (balance).
The difficulty lies in the fact that we live in a treatment oriented society. We have
been taught that when symptoms arise, we give the body something from outside
that is supposed to counteract them. This is the entire reason that medicine has to

test and test and test you when something is wrong. They have to find a diagnosis
to then know what drug to prescribe.
However, treating symptoms never brings about a state a health whether you do
it with drugs, supplements, vitamins, herbs, or specific kinds of food.
I know this is an unpopular notion because people dont want to think their health
is their own responsibility and that their lifestyle choices determine the outcome.
It is much easier to believe that we can eat, drink, and smoke whatever we want
and then just take a pill when we get sick because its genetic. This is the kind of
thinking we have to eliminate if we want to live disease-free.

Diabetes and Weight Loss

If you eat correctly, and live a healthy lifestyle, losing weight and staying fit is
effortless.
There are very good reasons why your efforts to shed unwanted pounds have
been unsuccessful. Aside from the fact that many people just arent aware of what
is healthy, insulin resistance does play a role.
All your cells dont become resistant at the same rate, so what is the
sequence? The liver cells are first, then muscle cells, then fat cells. What
does this mean to you?

Insulin Resistance and Liver Cells

Insulin normally acts to stop your liver from producing sugar (which is one of the
livers important functions). If liver cells are insulin resistant, your liver will be
producing sugar and releasing it into your bloodstream all the time. This means
there will be no ability for you to burn fat because there will be a constant influx
of sugar into your blood which the body must store.
More sugar = more insulin = more insulin resistance.

Insulin Resistance and Muscle Cells

Insulin allows your muscles to burn sugar. When muscle cells are resistant they
cant burn the sugar you eat or from that which is being produced by your liver,
which raises your blood sugar even more. This makes your body produce even
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

50

51

more insulin, which leads to more insulin resistance, and that just keeps the whole
cycle weve been talking about repeating itself.
When I use the term sugar, I am not only talking about candy and soda.
This includes carbohydrates that from pasta, bread, rice, chips, diet bars,
fried foods, cereal, etc., the majority of the American diet.

Insulin Resistance and Fat Cells

That leaves fat cells. Insulin blocks the release of fat from the fat cells and results
in weight gain. The higher the insulin levels, the more fat will be trapped in the
cells and no amount of calorie counting or exercise will reduce it.
All the excess sugar that the body is not handling (and just keeps increasing) is
going to be stored as fat, and that is bad news for your heart and your weight.
Ugh!
Are you frightened yet?

I want to make it clear that insulin resistance is a

symptom here. The real problem, or more
correctly the cause, is one of diet and lifestyle.
I can see the controversy with these statements now, Oh, now I see why Im
overweight. Its because Im diabetic.
No, it isnt. It was the diet and lifestyle choices that started the process. Being
diabetic does not make you overweight, and being overweight does not make you
diabetic. The lifestyle that makes you insulin resistant makes you diabetic and
also makes you overweight (and vice versa). Disease is an effect, not a cause.

We continue to put unhealthy things into our mouths which our bodies
have a terrible time dealing with, so they adapt the best way they can.
Dont fall into the trap of thinking these responses are somehow wrong or
that the body is malfunctioning. It is not. The body is responding
intelligently.

What we are calling disease in these cases is just the body attempting to save
itself by altering body chemistry and function. The symptoms of such changes are
what the medical profession attempts to alter and normalize with drugs.
Unfortunately doing so does not, and will never, bring about a state of health.
There is a reason for our ailments. They do not occur by chance. And the way we
eat is a major problem and a major cause of the healthcare crisis in our families. It
is imperative that we get back to the basics and start eating according to our
genetic needs.
Rather than reiterate all that Ive said before here, you can download my free 33

Stress and Diabetes

We hear constantly about how stress is bad for us, but no one ever says anything
else about it. They dont tell us why, they just give us some strategies to try and
reduce it. Well, if you dont understand the chemical changes that occur in your
body when youre under stress, the entire subject will just remain a meaningless
word that is thrown around every day of our lives.
Understand this: If our bodies didnt respond the way they do to stress, we
would die. The reactions that occur are imperative to our survival. However, the
human organism has a very difficult time with chronic (prolonged) stress. The
system was designed so that once the stressor was gone, the body would return
to normal. Chronic stress, however, makes it impossible for the body to stabilize.

The Fight or Flight Response

Back in the hunter-gatherer days when people couldnt run to the nearest corner
for a bag of tacos or hamburgers for dinner, it was not uncommon for an average
individual to have the physical makeup of todays Olympic athlete.
Rigorous activity was a daily necessity. There was nothing to eat except foods
grown and nurtured by nature. Nothing was processed or homogenized. There
were no additives, preservatives, or toxic sugar substitutes. The air and the water
were clean, and people lived natural lives.
According to anthropologists, these societies also did not suffer from
things like cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure,

obesity, allergies, osteoporosis, chronic pain, fatigue, or any of the other
illnesses that many Americans experience.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

54

54

The Diabetes Solution

Remember, our genetic code hasnt changed in the last 40,000 years, so why do
we suffer from these kinds of illnesses while they did not?
Im sure youve heard of the fight-or-flight response (also called the stress
response) at some point in your life. It is a natural and healthy reaction to sudden
threats.
Lets say youre down by the river fishing for some dinner and off in the distance
you see a 300 pound drooling tiger creeping toward you and licking its chops.
Some very specific and necessary things happen in your body to get you ready to
either run away or defend yourself.

Pupils dilate
Heart rate increases
Heightened mental alertness
Breakdown of sugar stores into the bloodstream
Blood pressure increases
Blood and oxygen are directed to muscles and organs
Adrenaline is released
Cortisol is released
Digestion ceases
Immune system shuts down

Your body does all this to make sure you are in the best condition to fight or flee.
It basically shuts down every process that isnt needed for immediate survival, and
heightens the ones that are.
Congratulations! On this day you were able to outwit the beast, or perhaps
someone else in the tribe just wasnt as fast as you, but you lived to fish another
day. Once the stress is removed, all body processes return to normal. Heart rate
slows, digestion resumes, etc. This process is absolutely necessary to our
survival. It is completely natural and intelligent.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

55

55

The Diabetes Solution

This stress response is the same whether you are in physical danger, under
emotional strain (worry, fear, anxiety), or toxic assault (food chemicals,
alcohol, cigarettes, drugs).

The problem, however, is that when a person is

under constant physical, mental, environmental,
and social stress (like we are these days), the
body is never able to shut off the stress response
and return to normal. Blood pressure stays high.
The immune system remains shut down. Stress
hormones remain in the bloodstream, etc.
Over time, these altered levels of function become the norm as the body adapts
to them. This is why people who are always stressed are so much more
susceptible to illness.
You dont have to be running from a tiger to be stressed, either. There are many
other forms:

Being under a deadline at work

A strained or unhealthy relationship with a parent or spouse
Financial worries
This one needs no explanation: KIDS!
Road rage
Poor diet
Pain
Health problems
Fear of some kind of lossjob, death, love.
Fear of an upcoming event
And the list goes on.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

56

56

The Diabetes Solution

Because of the altered body chemistry, stress is known to be a major factor in

almost every chronic disease in America these days, including: diabetes,
depression, obesity, anxiety, fatigue, chronic pain, heart disease, stroke,
osteoporosis, headaches, insomnia, immune deficiency, fibromyalgia, lack of
sleep, decreased sex drive, decreased fertility, indigestion, accelerated aging, and
ADHD.

Effects of Stress on Blood Sugar

So how does stress factor into blood sugar and insulin issues?
1. Increased Cortisol
When youre under stress, your adrenal glands release cortisol, a hormone that
helps regulate blood sugar, suppresses the immune system, and aids in the
metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. It also down-regulates (turns
off) insulin receptors which will lead to more insulin resistance.
Again, this is intelligent. When you are in a situation where you must fight or flee,
you need energy, so your body raises your blood sugar so that is has the fuel it
needs to work hard. It basically shuts down all unnecessary processes for the time
being and diverts all its energy to saving your life. You dont need to digest a meal
or fight off a cold when there is an animal trying to eat you for lunch.
When you are under chronic stress, however, cortisol will continue being
produced, turning off insulin receptors, so blood sugar will remain high.
What happens when there is an excess of sugar in the blood? The pancreas will
release insulin. What happens when there is too much insulin? More insulin
resistance. What do you get after a prolonged period of insulin resistance?
Diabetes, and all the other health conditions we previously discussed.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

57

57

The Diabetes Solution

So you really get a double whammy here. Not only do the wrong kinds of food
contribute to insulin resistance, but so does your stress level.
Over a prolonged period, increased cortisol also leads to immune deficiency and
decreased bone density (osteoporosis).
Here is a list of other changes your body makes when the fight-or-flight response
is triggered.
2. Increased Stress Hormones
Catecholamines act on the heart to increase your heart rate when the stress
response is triggered. Along with vasoconstriction (tightening of the blood
vessels), stress hormones like adrenalin will increase blood pressure. Your body
does this so oxygen can be delivered to muscles and tissues more quickly and
effectively during conflict.
Stress hormones also inhibit factual learning, memory, and the ability to focus
(can you say ADHD?)
3. Increased Blood Sugar

As I stated before, your body needs energy during fight-or-flight, so your blood
sugar levels are increased to accomplish this.

4. Drop in Serotonin

Along with an increase in adrenalin, decreased serotonin will cause:

Depression
Irritability

Fatigue
Insomnia
Tension headaches
Decreased sex drive
Changes in appetite
More rapid aging

5. Increased Cholesterol
This is to increase energy availability.
6. Insulin Resistance

7. Increased Sensitivity to Pain

Increased heart rate and blood pressure, along

with increased fatty acids and blood sugar, is
heart disease and stroke just waiting to happen.
Add a depressed immune system and the effects of cortisol and virtually every
major health issue in America has been addressed here.

Reversing the Effects of Stress

If youre alive, youre going to have stress. It cant be avoided. We also cannot stop
how our bodies react to it. However, there are steps you can take to minimize the
severity of stress and to reverse its effects when it appears

Rigorous Exercise
Short bursts (10-15) of intense physical exercise (as though youre trying to
exhaust yourself), through the changes in chemistry and metabolism that occur,
return the body to a state of homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, and efficient energy
usage.
Understand that exercise doesnt have to be done in a gym. Play with your kids or
grandkids, wrestle with them, play on the playground equipment with them,
climb a tree, have running races, go on a hike, dance around your house, the
possibilities are endless.
Have Fun
You cant be stressed out while youre laughing and doing something that makes
you happy. Laughter reduces stress, boosts immune health, and reduces cortisol
levels and stress hormones.
This is why engaging in our hobbies and making time for the things we
enjoy is so important. Its actually a necessity for wellness, so there is
your excuse to go do something fun.
Have Sex
Having sex relates to rigorous exercise and has the same effect. Of course, you
might not even have to go that far. The mere act of kissing has shown to decrease
cortisol levels in couples who lip-locked for 15 minutes.
Like we needed any more encouragement.

When you hear the word cure, you might picture a laboratory full of scientists
working on a magic pill or potion that will eliminate disease. Or maybe you
envision a universal remedy that is being kept secret by a hermit cave-dweller
deep in an ancient rainforest.
Its time you accept the fact that such a cure for diabetes will never be
discovered. They are searching for the Fountain of Youth. It simply
cannot exist in reality.
If you had a wilting plant, what would you do? Give it drugs and start cutting off
its leaves? Thats absurd! You would figure out what your plant required to be
healthy, what was toxic to it, and then add or subtract things as needed.
Even if you could give your plant some drug that would make its leaves rise up
again, would you have created a state of health in it? That is just as absurd! Even
though you might have made the leaves look nice again, you still wouldnt have
addressed whatever caused them to wilt in the first place. The disease process
would still be running.
It is time you understand the truth about diabetes. It is not a blood sugar problem.
The cause really isnt insulin resistance, either. It is a diet and lifestyle problem. Its
a problem of deficiency and toxicity.

The Recommended Diet

The typical diet recommended to diabetics by the medical world will never work!
Its basically a diet high in fake food, grains, and carbohydrates. They advocate the
consumption of processed, nutrient-absent food that has no beneficial value at all
as long as its sugar-free. So we have millions of people eating sugar-free foods
that are simply contributing to their disease.

Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are all

necessary for the body to work properly, but more
important than the amounts are the kinds of
these things we eat. The wrong types of these
foods are what cause high blood sugar, high
insulin levels, and ultimately insulin resistance.
Many of the food choices recommended by the medical industry arent even
food at all. They think that as long as its low in sugar that its okay. It is not!
Eating meals that are fat-free and sugar-free are simply sabotaging your efforts to
be healthy because when sugar and fat are removed, chemicals and fake sugars
take their place. How does the body respond? By altering body chemistry and
hormone balance!
This is not the way to health.

Headaches are not caused by a lack of Ibuprofen. Cancer is not caused by
a lack of radiation. Depression is not caused by a lack of anti-depressants.
You dont have too many body parts. There should never be any reason to
remove them. And you have the most wonderful drugstore on the planet
already inside you. There should never be a need for outside intervention
(aside from trauma care to save your life).

What is the medical response to all our health problems? Drugs and surgery,
which do not fix, cure, heal, prevent, or improve any illness or disease in
existence. We are committing suicide by our sedentary lifestyles and by what we
eat, think about, drink, and smoke, and using drugs to cover up the way in which
our bodies naturally respond to the assault!
If cells do not receive what they are programmed to need in order to express
health, they change. When they change, the body begins to alter blood pressure,
insulin levels, pH levels, cholesterol levels, hormone balance, etc.
This is why the current Western diet consisting of fast food, pizza, chicken fingers,
sandwiches, chips, diet bars, cookies, processed foods, cereal, etc. is so dangerous
to us.

We do not develop disease as we age because it is

natural. We develop disease as we age because of
a lifetime of not giving our cells what they are
programmed to need in order to produce health.
Insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and the majority of other health care
challenges we face can be reversed, but only if you are serious about your health

How to Turn Insulin Receptors Back On!

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

62

63

The Diabetes Solution

If high insulin levels cause the body to turn off insulin receptors, what would
prompt the body to turn them on again?
Believe me, if we begin to make our cells pure and sufficient, they can
return to a state of normal function and growth rather than one of
protection. This means they can function normally in health as long as we
arent forcing them to adapt.
And they will if we keep insulin levels low!
You came from nature. You are a natural being. You live in nature regardless of the
steel structures around you. Therefore, you must eat things that come from
nature. Your body is genetically designed to thrive on foods that are natural and
everything else, regardless of what the media and food labels tell you, is a toxin to
which the body must adapt and remove.
You simply have to start providing your body with what it genetically needs to
function properly. You also have to avoid things that are toxic. Remember, there
are only two things that move a cell away from health, being deficient in
nutrients it needs or being toxic with unnatural, poisonous substances. This
pertains to the way we eat, the way we move, and the way we think.

When it comes to nutrition, do not pay any

attention to the highly misleading Food Pyramid
that has been taught to us since childhood. It is
completely skewed and incorrect when it comes to
our genetic necessity.
And just because the label says natural or from a natural source, doesnt
necessarily mean that it is. Most of what you find in the aisles of the supermarket
is processed junk that isnt anything you want in your body.

If you can pick it from a tree, pull it from the

ground, or hunt it down, it comes from nature
and is something your genes were programmed
to assimilate and utilize.
Disclaimer do not go out and kill the rodents in your yard or randomly pull
things from a tree and eat them. This is a general guideline when youre doing
your grocery shopping.
Sorry, had to throw that in there. You never know

90% of your diet should consist of real food, like

animals and plants, specifically dark leafy greens,
animal meats, organ meats, fish, eggs, fruits,
colorful vegetables, nuts, and seeds, in any
combination at any time of day, as long as
nothing was added to it that did not come from
nature.
Real food naturally keeps insulin levels low because the body understands
how to properly and perfectly metabolize it and assimilate it.
Your DNA was designed to digest and use these foods perfectly. Your body knows
what to do with an apple. A cupcake, however, is a different story. One came from
nature; the other came from a machine in a factory.
Also be aware that once an apple is changed from its original form, it is no longer
natural. So that box that says Made with Real Apples is processed junk!

Avoid the following:

Almost anything that comes in a wrapper, bag, or box.
Processed sugar and all sugar substitutes.
Any drink that is not water except coconut water or tea made from natural
herbs. This includes fruit and vegetable juices unless you juice them
yourself using fresh, raw produce.
Dairy (there is plenty of natural calcium in dark, leafy green vegetables.
Cows milk is made for cows, not humans). The body does not need dairy in
any capacity. The dairy we consume is man-made and causes inflammation.
This is bad for anyone with sinus issues, arthritis, asthma, and digestive
problems.
All processed grains (bread, pasta, cereal, etc.). Processed grains pummel
your blood sugar levels. This includes whole grains. Bread does not grow
from a tree. It comes off a conveyor belt.

White flour.

As a general rule, you should be able to

pronounce everything on a food label and there
shouldnt be more than 4 or 5 ingredients. If you
cant pronounce it, it means it was added in a
factory somewhere and is not natural.
You might be saying, This stinks! Thats all the stuff that tastes good. And I
would respond that you got into this mess because you have been eating for years
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

65

according to what tastes good instead of what your body needs. This is all the
stuff that gave you diabetes.
I know all this is a lot to take in, and believe me it is a complex topic only because
our needs are actually much different than what we are taught. I would highly
recommend you not allow commercials and media reports to be your guide. Just
because they add Vitamin C to soda doesnt make it a health drink, and just
because they found antioxidants in dark chocolate doesnt make it a health food.

To do this successfully, you have to take one day

at a time and start slowly. At first, only eliminate
the foods that you dont care about ever eating
again. If you wont miss it at all, dont eat it. Then
start with the foods that you only moderately
care about and so forth.
Be conscious of what you put into your body. Every decision you make either
brings you a step closer or a step further away from heath. As your body gets
healthy, you will find yourself beginning to crave the healthy foods over the
unhealthy ones.
Here is a breakdown of what you should eat.
1. Again, eat mostly animal meats, organ meats, fish, leafy greens, eggs,
colorful veggies, nuts, and fruit. As much of this as humanly possible should
come from chemical-free, organic, local sources. Find a Farmers Market
near you and get as much food from there as you can.
2. All meats should be lean, grass-fed, free range, hormone-free, and
antibiotic free whenever possible.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

66

67

The Diabetes Solution

What not to do - Dont fill your plate with chicken and beef every meal. The
key here is in the vegetables and fruits. Make sure you get a wide variety,
especially of dark, leafy green vegetables, vegetables with bright colors, and
many fruits. They should be fresh, ripe, and raw. The further anything gets
from the way nature made it, the worse it is for you.
3. Instead of eating three meals a day, its better to graze. Have many
different food choices available throughout the day and just munch a little
at a time when youre hungry. Its easier on your blood sugar and digestion,
will help you lose weight, and will boost your metabolism.
4. And this is the key. Stop counting calories and sugar, and start counting
carbs. The best biological effects occur in the 30-50 grams of carbs per day
range, but you might want to start off keeping them below 100 grams per
day until you break your carb addiction. Youll likely experience intense
sugar cravings during this period, so eat the REAL foods you love when you
get hungry.

Exercise and Diabetes

Motion is life
Look around. We are surrounded by activity, and everything changes.
Inanimate objects are always on the decline. They are constantly being weathered
away, broken down, and eroded by the elements. Even so, at the core, even
lifeless matter is bustling with activity.
A rock seems to be motionless. It doesnt grow, move, or change. It appears to just
sit there. But at its center, there is a vast world of organization and activity as
electrons, protons, and neutrons swirl about like planets in their own tiny galaxy.

Increasing Life
Life, on the other hand, is always expanding and always becoming. Grass grows,
flowers bloom, caterpillars become butterflies, and seeds produce trees of every
variety. Even when you are fast asleep, lying motionless, your body is active. Your
lungs are expanding, your heart is beating, cells are dividing, glands are producing
chemicals, and your brain is sending mental impulses over your nerves.
When one cell dies, it is replaced by another. If you cut your finger, your body will
repair it. And if specific cells between a man and a woman find each other, new
life will be produced.

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said that you can never step into the same river
twice. The reason is that the river is always flowing and changing, but so are you.
You are never the same person from moment to moment. Your body is ever
evolving.

Exercise and Genetic Necessity

Your DNA has been programmed to thrive on movement. This is the fundamental
reason that exercise is so important. The necessity for motion has been hardwired
into our genes in order for our cells to work properly. This means that leading a
sedentary lifestyle is not congruent with our innate genetic requirements. So if
you arent exercising, to put it quite bluntly, you are decliningslowly but
absolutely.
Studies show that about 30-50% of all cases of type 2 diabetes, coronary heart
disease, and many cancers can be prevented by 30 minutes of moderate intensity
exercise each day. That means simply walking at a pace greater than 3 miles per
hour.
In a comprehensive review of literature, published in the Journal of Applied
Physiology, researchers concluded that physical inactivity predicts frailty and
health related disability later in life. This means that inactive people tend to
become weak and sickly as they age. They also showed that walking over 2 miles
per day reduced mortality (early death) in people by half!

Imagine if everyone on the planet did this. The

decrease in mortality alone would be greater than
anything ever studied thus far, and cost savings
would be immense both in terms of money and
human suffering.

Show me any drug that can do that!

There are piles upon piles of data showing that physical activity improves the
function of just about every organ and system in the body. Physical inactivity,
especially in people who already have multiple health conditions, is associated
with twice the death rate than for those that are active.
Are you getting the importance of this?
I find that many people who do not make exercise a priority (even though they
know it is vital) are simply not aware of the reasons it is so fervently
recommended. I can go on and on with this, but I will let these few research
examples suffice for now.

Exercise is in Your Genes

I understand that for many people exercise is hard, especially if you are
overweight or already suffering from disease. But you simply cannot exclude one

of the components of genetic necessity and be healthy any more than you can
exclude water from plants and expect them to live. It is scientifically impossible.
If you are an inactive person, you have to begin where you are. Dont try and go
faster than your body can handle. However, eventually you must be able to get
rigorous exercise every day.

Were not trying to eliminate disease. We are

trying to restore health by giving the body what it
is genetically designed to need for homeostasis.
The two require entirely different approaches.
Exercise is meant to be a challenge, to make your

The Diabetes Solution

body work, and in so doing you force it to adapt

and get stronger.
The allopathic (medical) recommendations for exercise will never bring about a
state of healthy genetic expression. They look at everything through the lens of
sickness, so their advice is given in terms of disease. In order for exercise to be
constructive, it has to be done in terms of our genetic code and in a way that is
sufficient for our innate needs. It is not a treatment, nor is it a therapy. It is a
necessity! Without it, there is a deficiency to which the body must adapt.
THERE IS NO DRUG IN EXISTENCE THAT CAN TREAT AN EXERCISE DEFICIENCY!

Exercise and Insulin

It is widely known that exercise increases the effectiveness of insulin and
reduces insulin resistance. It is also known that intense activity burns fat as
energy which depletes fat stores.
Americans typically have too much fat and not enough muscle. This reduces the
effect of insulin on blood glucose (sugar) and increases insulin resistance. Muscle
also revs up the metabolism which makes fat burning easier. This is why strength
training is so often recommended. For every pound of muscle you add, you
increase your ability to burn fat 24 hours a day. Your body also becomes more
efficient, balanced, and moves toward homeostasis.
Numerous studies have shown that glucose (sugar) is removed from the blood
much more slowly after a meal in sedentary people. Exercise increases insulin
sensitivity (which is a good thing) because the cells that carry glucose in muscles
and adipose (fat) tissue are increased both in number and activity. Inactivity, on
the other hand, is associated with a decrease in the effectiveness and response of
insulin.
www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

74

73

The Diabetes Solution

This is important whether you are overweight or not. You can still be a skinny sick
person. Physical inactivity increases the risk of diabetes in normal weight people
as well.
I could write volumes about the studies done regarding exercise and every single
disease you can name. The bottom line for diabetics is that insulin isnt being
regulated properly and it is the one hormone that either controls or somehow
coordinates every other hormone in the body.
High intensity work-outs also relieve stress (another major factor in Type 2
Diabetes as was explained in an earlier chapter), increase antioxidant levels (these
fight cancer and rapid aging), and strengthen the heart (a very important organ,
no?)
In order for physical training to be effective, however, you have to do the exercises
that maximize your genetic expression of health.

Genetically Sound Exercise

I am not a big fan of weight lifting. Its boring to me and adds too much
unnecessary joint and ligament stress. Whole body movements are best to build
functional muscle and strength.
Our ancestors did not pile into gyms for bench presses and bicep curls. They were
much healthier than us and used their bodies naturally. They sprinted, jumped,
climbed, lifted, carried, crawled, pushed, and pulled. Their daily life was their
exercise. These are the types of movements we need to replicate for optimal
health and function.
Here is a list of great routines to get you started. Find some you enjoy and let
them challenge you:

The Diabetes Solution

1. Plyometrics - also called jump training. These exercises are extremely

effective in adding power to your hips and legs. They also burn fat like crazy
and blast your cardiovascular system. Doing these will get you in shape fast.
2. Bodyweight Exercises / Calisthenics - These are my absolute favorite. There
is a reason why the military does so much of this. They burn fat, build
functional power, and increase flexibility. There is no equipment necessary
and you can work out at home with just a few square feet of space.
3. Swimming - One of the best overall exercises for both cardio and strength.
Every major muscle group is worked simultaneously which increases the
rate at which the body can burn fat. You dont see any obese swimmers do
you? You also eliminate gravity when you swim so its much easier on
people with spinal injuries and older adults.
4. Kayaking - If you dont think this is challenging, give it a try. The more rough
the body of water, the more demanding it is.
5. Isometrics - This is a type of exercise during which your body is worked
either against an immovable object or with weight that you keep in a fixed
position. Think pushing against a wall or carrying a heavy load.
6. Sprints - Runners will hate when I say this, but the body was not designed
to run long distances. Doing so involves relaxing your body and getting into
a zone that will carry you for miles and miles. This leads to joint and spine
problems, hormonal imbalances, and even some cardiovascular issues.
The body was designed to sprint. Every major muscle group is engaged when you
sprint which protects you from injury. 50 - 200 yards is ideal. Add some hills for
more of a challenge. *Start slowly with these.

7. Yoga - Yoga isnt just a bunch of women in a room stretching. Its

challenging and will work your muscles in ways you never imagined. The
great thing is that its low impact so pretty much anyone can do it
regardless of what kind of shape youre in. The health benefits are endless.
8. Martial Arts - There are so many types of martial arts that reviewing them
all would be impossible. The key is to find one you enjoy, stick with it, and
keep pushing yourself to improve. There are training centers in just about
every city and most gyms offer kickboxing classes. You can get your arms,
legs, and hips moving and learn to defend yourself at the same time.
9. Interval Training - This isnt so much a type of exercise as much as it is a
method of exercise. It involves bursts of high intensity work followed by
periods of low intensity work or rest. The high intensity periods are close to
maximum exertion. It is a favorite of many sports coaches and mimics the
type of effort our healthy ancestors required.
10. Dancing - I am always happy to report that dancing is one of the absolute
best exercises in existence, so close the curtains (or not), blast your favorite
tunes, and invent some new moves. Get your heart rate up and sweat a
little bit.
No matter what your current activity level, step it up a notch. If it is non-existent,
you must start even if that means simply doing some light gardening, taking a
walk around the block, or standing up during commercials and moving your limbs.

There is no room for excuses when it comes to

your health. Excuses only lead to suffering and an
early demise.

Falling out of an exercise routine is something everyone does. Dont beat yourself
up about it. One of the great things about life is that every morning you wake up is
another opportunity to begin again and make better choices. If you fail today, do
better tomorrow. If you fail tomorrow, call a friend who will help keep you
motivated and accountable. Better yet, get them to join you.
When it comes down to it, no one is going to exercise for you. Dont wake up a
decade from now wondering where the time went and wishing you would have
taken better care of your body. The only time you have to better your health and
life is right now, this moment.

Your Third Healthcare Choice

Ever since I was old enough to understand English, politicians have been arguing
about healthcare. During every election we hear the same promises wrapped in
the same recycled ideas, just from different people. They talk about how theyre
going to finally solve this issue and how well all live in peace and harmony,
dancing together in fields of rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns as long as we
elect them into office.
Then the election happens and the same troubles continue. Promises are broken,
the people are forgotten, and the payoffs are disbursed. As long as I have been
alive, the same problems have needed fixing. Every day I am more and more
astonished that clear thinking, intelligent people can actually retain any faith in
our leaders as we live the same cycles over and over.
The healthcare debate continues to rage and whatever your stance, you have to
admit we certainly know how to complicate things in America. It is an interesting
situation when millions of people are hopeful, yet there are millions who are
scared to death at the same time.
At least once a day someone asks me about my stance on the matter and frankly I
do have an opinion. But my thoughts arent as simple as just choosing a side. Im
not happy with either option, so Ive created a third.

Who is Responsible for Your Health?

I think we need to look past the surface and see what is really at stake here. It is
unfortunate that the future of our healthcare is being decided by people who

couldnt care less about us and who will just say whatever is necessary so they can
keep their power and their million dollar titles. Nonetheless, there is a better way.
This body was given to me. It is my responsibility. There is no one else to look after
it and make sure it lasts a long, long time. The government wont do it, my friends
wont do it, and the current medical system is set up to wait until it breaks before
it can do anything. If I dont take control of my health, it will be in the hands of
others who simply want to profit from my illnesses and then Im in big, big
trouble.
The real issue here is one of personal responsibility. We have to let go of this idea
that we can do whatever we want, eat whatever we want, smoke and drink
whatever we want, because there is always a drug we can take or a surgery we
can have that will fix us when we break. We have to be conscious and aware that
the system fails because of abuse and neglect, not because of mysterious bugs,
bad genes, or bad luck.
For many that is a harsh and uncomfortable thing to hear, but its true. Maybe we
need some tough love to get back to making our health a priority. Maybe we all
need to hear someone say that its up to us. Maybe we need to come to the
realization that most of us dont guide our children correctly in the ways of health.
Most parents dont want to hear that their childs ADD is very likely the result of
their diet, stress levels, lack of exercise, or all three.
That would mean we have to start eating leafy green things and somehow getting
our kids to eat them too. That would mean getting off the couch and having some
family exercise time. That would mean spending more time and more money on
the things we need to be healthy. It would be a huge pain in the rear and require
much more effort and commitment.

Locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, farm raised and grass-fed beef, no more
drive-throughs, cooking meals at home, ugh! Sounds like a big hassle, and its
certainly more expensive and more time consuming.
But how expensive is a lifetime of drug treatments and surgeries? How much life
do we lose from painful procedures, relentless discomfort, lack of energy,
recurring illnesses, premature aging, and lack of autonomy? Which is truly the
drain on our lives?

The Third Healthcare Approach

Instead of making our longevity and vitality a political issue, how about we simply
do as much as we can from now until we die, to make sure we have the best
chance possible of NOT NEEDING THEM later in life? And by them I mean
insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and especially bureaucrats
whose extent of caring about us ends at how much money they can get from us.
Isnt that worth a few extra bucks and a little extra effort each week?
I saw a commercial recently about a medical clinic that only does heart
transplants. They are the best in the world at what they do. The ad included
patient testimonials with people crying and the very dramatic, slow-motion scene
depicting an EMT rushing a cooler containing a new heart into an operating room,
saving someones life.
They made it seem like people needing a new heart was a normal thing, just a day
to day occurrence like having a cup of coffee, and when you need one you should
go to their clinic.
Do you see anything wrong with this picture?

The Diabetes Solution

Do you see anything wrong with people needing a new heart! This is not okay! It is
not normal. And I would like to keep the one I have, thank you very much, so Im
going to take care of it no matter how inconvenient, costly, or difficult.
If we allow insurance companies to determine how much care we need/receive,
we are all going to be very sick people. It is not their business to keep us well. It is
their business to make money for shareholders. Our best interest is not a part of
their consideration.
Health is simple folks. It may not be easy and convenient, but it is simple. I
personally am not going to wait to do the things I know are necessary for my wellbeing until I get sick and then am at the mercy of someone Ive never met whose
job it is to deny me care and save the company money.
It is my sincere hope that you do not wait either.

Extra Help
There are a few vital nutrients that humans simply dont get adequately any
longer because of our modern way of living. Almost every time I research a new
health problem, the deficiency component of their condition can be traced back
to one or all of these genetic requirements.
Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and just
about every other degenerative illness you can think of are no different. Our
needs are the same as our hunter-gatherer ancestors, but times have certainly
changed. For this reason, these 3 nutrients should be a part of nearly everyones
daily regimen for life.
Not all supplements are created equal. This is certainly one instance
where you get what you pay for. Supplements you buy at the supermarket
are mostly worthless and ineffective. Big companies dont put any
resources into creating a good product. All their money goes into
marketing.
Yes, supplements cost money, but so do cable TV, cell phones, and high-speed
internet access. The fact is that we all arrange our budgets for what we think is
important. The cost is nominal against what it affords you.

V itamin D3
10% of our genes are directly influenced by Vitamin D. Unfortunately, most of us
go sometimes 7 months out of the year without sun exposure.

www.goodlivingwarehouse.com

84

82

The Diabetes Solution

The body needs V itamin D to assist insulin, create antibiotics, control
inflammation, strengthen bones, fight infection, contract muscles, send
nerve impulses, and fight cancer.

Being deficient in V itamin D can result in

osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, heart disease, high
blood pressure, diabetes, immune deficiency,
arthritis, infertility, psoriasis, muscle cramps, joint
pain, headaches, and 17 different forms of cancer.
Vitamin D is fast becoming one of the most popular recommendations by health
professionals when anyone is suffering from infections, inflammatory disorders,
and autoimmune conditions. Billions upon billions of cells in the body have
Vitamin D receptors which tells us that it is an essential nutrient for cellular
wellness.
There is also ample evidence suggesting that the entire reason for the flu is
because of a Vitamin D deficiency.

The best way to know for sure how much you need is to have your levels
checked. A healthy V itamin D level is between 60 and 80 ng/ml.
You can see our recommendation for V itamin D on our website by clicking this
link. It comes in liquid form and is dairy-free.

Omega-3 Fats

The Diabetes Solution

Essential fatty acids are another crucial nutrient. Our ancestors used to get these
when they ate wild game, but unfortunately in our modern times, we dont eat
wild game anymore.
It is true that certain types of fish are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, but
hardly anyone consumes the correct quantities or types of fish to be sufficient.

A lack of Omega 3s can cause diseases like some

cancers, cardiovascular disease, allergies, asthma,
arthritis, high blood pressure, liver problems,
kidney disease, eczema, diabetes, cystic fibrosis,
ADD, immune problems, and this is just a partial
list.
Omega-3s serve to assist growth and development, brain and nerve function,
immune function, hormone production, skin and bone health, heart function,
digestion, emotions, and healing, and also help construct the outer membrane
(wall) of every cell in the body.
Many people are turning to flax and chia seeds, as well as certain types of algae,
for their omega-3s these days, but understand that omega-3s from seeds and
other plants (ALA Omega-3s) have a shorter carbon chain than the much more
biologically important DHA and EPA Omega-3s. The body then must add carbons
to the chain in order to convert ALA to DHA and EPA so the body can use it.
Science has demonstrated that the human body is not efficient in doing
this, and very little ALA is actually converted to DHA and EPA. For this
reason, we should not rely on ALAs for our Omega-3 fatty acids. We
should get them directly from wild game meats and small oily fish.

Probiotics
The majority of the immune system is located in the gut in the form of healthpromoting bacteria. Every time we consume antibiotics, processed grains (bread,
pasta, rice, cereal), processed sugar, alcohol, or simply dont eat a diet rich in
whole foods, we kill off a little more of the immune system and allow illness
promoting bacteria to take over.
As these bad bacteria flourish, you may notice bloating and indigestion,
digestive disease, bad breath and body odor, impaired immunity, frequent colds
and flu, vaginal yeast infections, Candida, asthma, acne, eczema, and dandruff.
Probiotic consumption has been shown to regulate autoimmune disorders and to
enhance immune function in already healthy people. There is also evidence that it
decreases the incidence of colon and breast cancer and normalizes cholesterol
levels.
If you have ever taken an antibiotic, ingested alcohol, or eaten processed
sugar or grains, and unless you consume large amounts of raw fruits and
vegetables as well, it is a virtually certainty that you are deficient in
probiotics.
To view the probiotic we recommend, visit our website by clicking this link.
It was created to model the types and amounts of bacteria we genetically require.
It is vegetarian and free from wheat, soy, and grain.
