MOTIVATION

Humans motives are based on needs felt consciously or


subconsciously,

Needs are of two types,

1) Primary needs
2) SECONDARY NEEDS,

1) Primary needs:
Primary needs are such as water, food, shelter etc and

2) Secondary Needs:
Secondary needs are self-esteem, status, affiliation,
affection, and accomplishment
Define Motivation
  

Motivation a general term applying to the entire


class of drives, desires, needs, wishes, and similar
other forces,
 
To say that a manager motivate their subordinates is
to say that they do things which they hope will
satisfy these drives and desires and induce the
subordinates to act in a desired manner.
 
MOTIVATION THEORY
  
There are various theories of motivation but we
will first look into:
 
Maslow's Hierarchy of needs theory
One of the most widely used theories of motivation
is the hierarchy of needs theory, put forth by
psychologist Abraham Maslow.
 
MASLOW NEEDS THEORY
When one set of needs is satisfied this kind of needs ceases to be a
motivator.

Physiological needs
PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS
These are the basic needs for sustaining human life itself, such as food, water,
warmth, shelter, and sleep, and to motivate one s need these things at first
attempt.

   SECURITY OR SAFETY NEEDS

Peoples want to be free of physical danger and of the fear of losing jobs, property
,food or shelter.
AFFILIATION OR ACCEPTANCE NEEDS
Since people are social beings, they need to belong to be accepted by others.

ESTEEM NEEDS
According to Maslow once people begin to satisfy their need to belong, they tend
   to want to be held in esteem both by themselves and by others, this kind of need
produces such satisfaction as power, prestige, status, and self confidence

NEED FOR SELF-ACTUALIZATION


Maslow regards this as the highest needs in his hierarchy, it is the desire to
become what one is capable of becoming to maximize ones potential and to
accomplish something
Special Motivational Techniques:
There are some motivational Techniques which are discussed as under:

Money:
Money is often more than a monetary value: it can also mean status or power.

Intrinsic Rewards:
May include a feeling of Accomplishment or self-actualization.

   Extrinsic Reward:
Include benefits, recognition, Status symbol, and money,

Participation:
To give Participation to Person in decision making,
 
Quality of working life:
Its also one of the factors which increase motivation,
