Art Inquiry Project

SUMMARY:
You will need to develop your own art project based on something that you are passionate about.
A good inquiry question is:

Open to research,
Something you dont know yet,
Could have multiple possible answers, and
Has a clear focus

You will need to come up with a Why or How question. For example, you may inquire
about how a certain artist creates a specific effect, or why Ancient Egyptians painted people a
certain way.
Use this handout as a checklist!
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Meet with Miss K to confirm your idea/concept/inquiry questions. Your projects may take
many different forms: it could be a painting, a sculpture, or even a stop motion animation! Be
creative and take risks! Miss K is very nice and you should feel safe in taking artistic risks
2. Evidence of your research. This could be notes/doodles in your sketchbook, or another form of
documentation. I need to see how you developed your project from start to finish.
3. Self-reflections (you may type them up or write them in your sketchbooks):
o Beginning (February-March):
1. Why did you choose this idea?
2. How does it challenge you?
3. What steps do you think you will have to take to accomplish it in time?
o Midway (April):
1. How do you feel about your project now?
2. What difficulties did you encounter?
3. What have you learned so far?
4. What do you still need to figure out?
o Final (June):
1. After group critiques amongst your peers, how do you feel about your
accomplishments?
2. What did you learn?
3. What do you want to learn more about?
4. What advice do you have for other students developing their own projects?
5. In what ways can you apply your new knowledge and skills?

4. During group critiques, you must be engaged and supportive of your peers by asking
thoughtful questions and providing feedback. You will have feedback forms to write down 2
stars and 1 wish: 2 things you really liked about the project and 1 suggestion for further
improvement.
5. As a self-assessment, you will give yourself a mark based on the following rubric in addition
to writing your own 2 stars and 1 wish.
6. All the above things need to be handed in to Miss K in an organized way for feedback!
We will have 3 classes in May in which you can bring your materials to work on this project.
Please make sure you have enough research and materials ready for May 6th.

Your projects are due for group critiques on June 3rd.

Your projects will all be marked with written feedback by June 17th so make sure you come pick
up your projects before the last day of school!
