What is a client?
A client is a piece of computer hardware or so ware that accesses a service made
available by a server.
What is a host?
A computer that is connected to a TCP/IP network, including the Internet. Each
host has a unique IP address.

What is a web server?
A Web server is a program that, using the client/server model and the World Wide
Web's Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( HTTP ), serves the files that form Web pages to
Web users (whose computers contain HTTP clients that forward their requests).
What does the term html mean?
Hyper Text Markup Language, commonly referred to as HTML, is the standard
markup language used to create web pages.

How does a search engine work?


1. A search engine has to find all the pages that are relevant to the search so, they
use crawlers to find them.
2. When the searcher performs a search on the internet; the search engine finds
and retrieves the documents that are relevant to the search and it also, ranks
those results according to the popularity of the websites serving the informa on. It

Why are emails useful to a business?


The sender and recipient (s) of an email message do not have to be online at the
same me. When one person sends a message, it is stored on an email server. It
waits in store un l the recipient signs in, at which point the server forwards the
message to them. The system is known as a storeandforwardsystem.

What is the role of a search engine?


Search engines use automated so ware (known as robots or spiders) to follow
links on Websites, harves ng informa on as they go. When someone submits a
query to a search engine, the engine returns a list of sites, ranking them on their
relevance to the keywords used in the search.

In order to make copies of a le er or memo, a sheet of carbon paper was inserted
under the original version and a sheet of blank paper was placed under the car
bon paper. As a le er or memo was typed, a copied version would be transferred
via the carbon paper to the blank sheet of paper. This is located in your email.
