Instructions: Read each question carefully. Choose one question


from each section (there are six sections in total) and respond to
each question thoroughly. Each response should be typed, at
least half a page (maximum of one page), 12 point, Times New
Roman, and labelled with the question number. Each question
should begin with the question written out as a statement,
followed by clarification in the response.
NOTE: All students are required to be IN CLASS on Friday, March
11th to work on this test. Any student not attending class on the
11th will not be permitted to hand the test in on Monday. A
different, in class test will be offered to these students who miss
at the end of the course in June.
Global Issues
1. What is a global issue? What are media influences? How does entertainment
influence the way we think about the world around us? How can we use the
internet as a tool to address some particular global issues?
2. What is global awareness? What is interconnectedness? How can
understanding someone elses worldview increase your global awareness?
3. What is a global issue you are concerned about? Whats a personal solution
you can take to address the global issue? Whats a structural solution you can
take to address this global issue?
Sustainability
4. What is sustainability? How can sustainability promote environmental health,
economic development, and human well-being?
5. What is the iceberg model? Draw and explain. How are people working
towards sustainable solutions to local and global issues?
6. How would you define intergenerational responsibilities? What are some
specific actions that would be examples of intergenerational responsibility?
7. Are there any natural resources extracted near where you live? If so, how
does that extraction affect the local environment, economy, and society?
What drives natural resource extraction? What impacts do our individual
choices play?

8. What is poverty? How can we ensure that all people have access to nutritious
food? What agricultural practices are compatible with a healthy planet? How
might globalization of food markets be connected to hunger?
9. When you read that there is more than enough food grown to feed everyone
on earth, what is your reaction? In addition to grain, what other resources do
you think would be needed to raise livestock? What are the sustainability
implications of this resource use?
10.What are some of the reasons for groups of humans to switch from hunting
and gathering to farming? What evidence seems to suggest that the rise of
agriculture was inevitable? Some people think that genetically modified foods
should be labeled so that consumers know they are eating GMOs. What do
you think?

11.What makes water plentiful for some people and scarce for others? What is
potable water? How can structural and personal decisions around water
support sustainability?
12.What is the hydrological cycle? Draw and discuss. What is acid rain?
13.If water is renewable, then why does water scarcity exist? How is water
consumption an environmental, economic and social issue?
Air
14.Why is air considered a common resource? How do people influence the
quality of our air? How can we reduce pollution from our vehicles? Aside from
air, what could be considered a common resource? What is it about air that
makes it unique to other common resources?
15.If air pollution is a concentration of gases or dust in amounts that can harm
the health of humans, animals or plants how would you define clean air?
What are common signs of air pollutionsuch as smells, symptoms and
substances? Draw and label the diagram of the atmosphere.

16.How does gender equity relate to sustainability? What are modern trends
towards gender equity? What are ways to personally and structurally address
gender inequities? How does media impact the ways we view gender?
17.Why is informal work undertaken by women undervalued in many societies?
How did the industrial revolution impact gender roles in the USA? What are
