Course Description: The Integrated Learning System for Calculus

addresses the changing needs of todays teachers and students.
Recognizing that the calculus course is presented in a variety of
teaching and learning environments.
Textbook: Larson, Hostetler, & Edwards: Calculus of a Single Variable
8th Edition
Course Objectives:
- Review how to find, graph, and compare mathematical models
for different data sets.
- Learn how to find limits of functions analytically, graphically, and
numerically.
- To approximate the slope of a tangent line to a graph at a given
point, find the slope of the secant line through the given point
and a second point on the graph and use limits to find slopes of
tangent lines to graph.
- Analyze graphs of functions, use the derivative of a function to
determine the functions maximum and minimum values, identify
any asymptotes of the functions graph.
- The area of a parabolic region can be approximated as the sum
of the areas of rectangles, as you increase the number of
rectangles the approximate tends to become more and more
accurate.
- Use slope fields and learn how to sketch slope fields and solve
differential equations.
Types of Assignments:
- Tests and Quizzes: written evaluation of classwork material and
projects
- Bellwork: Record daily entries regarding relevant topics
immediately upon entering class. If you are absent, it is your
responsibility to get missed bellwork from someone else in the
class.

Homework: individual completion, self-motivation required

Student Evaluation:

Attendance Policy: Regular and prompt class attendance is an

essential part of the educational experience. Faith Academy expects
students to exercise good judgment regarding attendance and
absences. Students will accept full responsibility for ensuring their
work does not suffer because of absences. All students are expected
to attend every scheduled class on time. Exceptions may be made for
illness and valid emergencies.
Any absence due to school-related functions require students to
receive and submit previous work before the absence and completed
by the day of their return. Students will have as many days as they
were out to submit the assigned work. All makeup work can be turned
in with the next assignment or placed in the wire basket on the lateral
filing cabinet. Refer to monthly syllabus for assignments.
Academic Honesty: Cheating is NOT acceptable! If a student cheats
on a test, quiz or homework, he/she will immediately receive a zero, a
blue slip will be placed in the students file and parents will be notified.
The second offense will result in disciplinary action and suspension.
Help Class: Due to the multiple classes I teach, I have created a help
class schedule for the different levels. All levels will be welcome in the
morning and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons will be available for
engineering students. Help class will not be provided on the mornings
of test days. Help class is a wonderful tool and I highly recommend
that you use this opportunity!
If you are having trouble with this class, come to me immediately and I
can work with you. If you wait till the end of the grading period, it will
be too late! I will be available to help you understand so you can be
successful in this class.
Letters of Recommendation: I am more than happy to write a letter
of recommendation for students, but please give me an advance notice
so that I can be sure to take the necessary time to construct a letter
that best reflects you.

AP Exam Information: AP Exam is Wednesday, May 7th at 8:00 am.

The exam is optional and will not affect your grade, although it is
highly recommended. The cost of the AP Exam is $89.00.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
