A. Personal Statement
Briefly describe why your experience and qualifications make you particularly well-suited for
your role (e.g., PD/PI, mentor, participating faculty) in the project that is the subject of the
application.
Being a recent graduate from an entry-level dental hygiene program will be beneficial in
teaching incoming students about current schools of thinking. I believe students can better voice
their fears, struggles, and goals to me because I, too, have recently experienced the same
stress and environment. During my time in school, I worked with recent graduates in class and
clinic and I developed a closer bond to them in a matter of weeks than instructors I've known for
several quarters. The graduates were able to recall the same experiences and memories and
helped serve as a reminder that I'm not alone in my struggles. I hope to not only serve as a
liason for graduates, but also as an instructor that can explain concepts more clearly to facilitate
a thorough understanding. An enthusiastic instructor can make all the difference. I'd like to build
a class that is interactive and hands on. What I lack in experience, I hope to compensate in
determination. Though I am a novice clinician, I am in a phase as a recent graduate where I am
absorbing all the information around me. I believe learning the skills as an educator early in my
career will be influential to my development as I take clips of skills that work for me, and dispose
skills that may not work.
