From the Pastor

Your usually calm, cool and collected pastor
is unusually excited...
...about the vision I believe God has given us for
the future of Central.

Since last Fall, the Vision Task Force has worked

hard at enlisting the congregation in discerning
this vision. Many of you have participated in one of the Vision Forward events, or
filled out a survey. The Vision, along with the ministries to implement it, will be
presented after the 2nd worship service on April 10th.
Well begin at noon with a brunch of pancakes and sausage cooked up by our Youth
Group (donations accepted to help with expense s for the Youth Mission Trip). Then the
Vision Task Force will make their presentation, answer your questionsand then, each
one of us will be asked to participate in one or more of the new ministries we are
launching, or existing ministries we seek to revitalize.
I believe that through this vision God is calling Central into a new and exciting future.
Now its up to you, the people of the congregation, to bring that vision to life.
Accordingly, this vision offers a way for each of us to grow in faith and for each one of
us to make a difference by serving in ministry. No one is left out, everyone has a place.
I believe God has spoken to us as a congregation about our futurenow, please pray
that God would speak to you personally about how you will participate in bringing this
future to life.
.

Church Family
Thank you...
Dear Church Friends,
Thank you for your prayers, calls, hospital and home
visits, flowers, cards and goodies during and following my hospitalization. Thanks also to Pastor Scott
and Deb Mummert for their prayers and visits.
It is comforting to know that when you hit a bump in
the road, there are friends ready with prayers and
get well wishes.
In Gods Love,
Lucille Stence

Thank you Central Church and Mr. & Mrs. Jay

Keefer for the beautiful flower arrangement you gave
me on February 28th. I appreciate your thinking of
me.
God bless,
Dorothy Zullinger

To Pastor Scott, Susan, Deb Mummert, members,

and friends of Central,
Thank you very much for the concern, words of
encouragement, prayers, visits and cards during the
past several months. It was a challenging time. I want
to especially thank a terrific friend and neighbor,
Marjie Hamsher for all the many things she did to
assist during this time. She went beyond the extra mile
for my family (that includes Daisy and Kyndall)!
Thanks also to Erin, Trena and those of you for your
concern, assistance and time spent with Elise. I am
comforted by the love that was shown for her.
In addition, I would like to thank Pastor Scott for his
meaningful sermon and courage on the 5th Sunday of
Lent, March 13. We are so fortunate to have a minister who regularly provides us with excellent, thoughtprovoking sermons, usually containing just the right
amount of humor. He is also open-minded, accepting,
honest and as Elise says, real.
Sincerely,
Mary Mohr

Our next literary adventure is: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha
Christie on April 6th at 2PM in the churchs Parlor. For more info or to be

The Diaper Depot at Central is continuing to reach people in need in

our community. On March 19, 108 families attended and 171 bags of 50
diapers each were handed out. Families were surveyed to discover other
needs that Central may be able to help meet. To connect the families
with our church, flyers of Holy Week services at Central were also
distributed.
There are many ways you can help the Diaper Depot at Central
continue to be successful:
Prayer Pray that we are reaching the neediest in the community.
Give of your time Help is needed on the day of the Diaper Depot. You can be a greeter,
registrar, distributor, or visitor. If you can help on Depot day, contact Sue Stahl at 717.658.6107
or mikestahl@comcast.net. Also, help is needed on the Thursday before Depot Day when the diapers are sorted and packed. This process takes an hour or two, depending on the number of helpers. If you are interested, contact Dottie Bush at 717.264.8130 or dotbush@embarqmail.com.
Donate Diapers or money. Money is being solicited from the community, but help from the
congregation is still needed.
The next Diaper Depot at Central is on April 16. Think about helping and contact Sue or Dottie. Donate some diapers or money. Pray for the Diaper Depot and the families it serves. You are always
welcome to come and observe the Diaper Depot in action.

FROM THE ORGAN BENCH

The Noontime Musical Meditation which has been happening
on Wednesdays at noon during Lent and Advent for the past
two years has just finished its current series with five programs involving Pat McNamee, Valerie Merriman, Dr. J. Frederick Davison, Patricia Divelbiss, Anita Rae Smith, and Helen
Wingert. Taking everything into consideration we have been
very pleased with the series.
At Worship Music meetings we decided to do a survey to get a better idea of
the preferences of our audiences --type of music, time of day, etc. So far 41
people have turned in survey forms to us. We gained some first-time attendees as well as
many who have come to a lot of the programs since this began. Most seemed to like the
variety of instrumental/voice, etc. with organ that we have been doing. Classical music
and hymn arrangements were high on the type of music preference lists.
We will hopefully continue this series again. If you would like more detailed
results of the survey or have any comments, suggestions, etc. please contact Helen
Wingert jhwingert@gmail.com 717-375-4397 home phone or 717-491-0081 cell phone.
Thanks so much for your support in attending these programs.

our giving through the first three weeks of the month totaling $21,408. During the next

From the sermons, the liturgies, the prayers and scriptures, to the dances,

God has truly showered and shown His blessing on the worship of Central
Presbyterian. We are humbled by His grace, mercy, and love as He continues to lead us through
every moment. Thank you again to everyone involved!

Bank Building Use Opportunity

Last year the Session created a Building Task Force to develop a recommendation about the
future of the bank building owned by Central. When that task force was unable to develop a
recommendation, the Session realized the question of the bank building needed to be
discerned within the larger context of a vision for the future of Central.
Accordingly, the Session created a Vision Task Force to lead the congregation in discerning
Gods vision, and the Session last night approved the Strategic Plan born of that process.
This plan will be presented to the congregation on April 10th.
Three weeks ago, after most of the work on the Strategic Plan was complete, an opportunity
emerged for a use for the bank building to house the Boys & Girls Club (BGC), which is
currently operating in a Franklin County Housing Authority building. This building is
located approximately 5-6 blocks west of the church, in an area commonly referred to as
the Projects. They currently serve approximately 30 children during the school year and
up to 80 during the summer. Shortly after our initial conversations with the BGC, Lowes
contacted the BGC regarding a Heroes Program grant which provides significant financial
support in supplies and manpower for renovating the bank building.
As a first step in the work of discerning whether it is Gods purpose for Central to proceed
with this proposal, the Session approved the following motion at a called meeting on
March 13th:

Allow the VTF to work with BGC, contingent upon the approval of the Lowes Hero
Program
Allow a June 1st occupancy date for the grant application
Allow for the pursuance of an A-3 Occupancy classification for non-profit status (which
should remove the use of the building from the local tax role)
Agreed a feasibility study would be conducted to estimate renovation costs prior to
entering an agreement with BGC

At this moment, the most critical element of the proposal is the Lowes grant. Lowes will
announce their grant award by late April. Additionally, there are still many other questions
to be answered. Session has appointed a steering team to gather the necessary information
and it will report back to the Session as soon as possible.
The Session will keep the congregation informed as we learn more. In the meantime, we
ask for your prayers for discernment as to whether God is calling Central Presbyterian
Church to this mission.
Respectfully Submitted,
Scott A. Wiley
VTF Chair
