HowhaveIdevelopedthiscompetencyduringthiscourseorprofessionalseminar/fieldexperience?
During
FE4 I had a secondary 4 (grade 10) student who was visually impaired. Lacking experience

working
with visually impaired students, I spoke with my CT and the student's educational aide about

what
steps I should take to help this student to succeed. I was told to provide as many electronic notes
as
possible, as early as possible, so that they could be converted from text-to-speech. I also came up

with
some additional steps to take and presented them to the student himself to get his opinion.

The steps I took were as follows:


-I provided electronic copies of all notes, handouts, homework assignemnts, etc. to the student, as far
advance as possible.

-I created online flashcards with an audio component for the student to use while studying for tests.
-I made sure to read all slides outloud (or selected a member of the class to read).
-I made sure to choose videos in classs based on their audio explanations as well as their visual
components.

-I paid careful attention to avoid phrases such as "as you can see" or "what can we see here".
-I attempted to call upon this student as much as I would any other student.

This was a great learning experience for me, particularly working directly with the student in question to
