Reflection:

IvealwaysenjoyedusingPlickersbecausethestudentsarealwaysengagedduringthe
activityanddonthesitatetoshowtheirexcitementwhenItellthemtobringouttheirPlicker
squares.ThistimeIincreasedthepersonaltouchbytakingtheextrasecondsnecessaryfor
addingimages.Whetheritistohelpclarifythequestionorsimplyforfun,thesitedoesmakeit
veryeasytoaddimagessoIwilllikelykeepthatupinthefuture.
IbelieveIneedtomakeascreencastthough,thatwouldhelpthestudentsonhowto
properlyholdthecardsbecauseIstillfoundmyselfhavingtoremindthem.Itcouldbedoneina
waytobeaninstructionforotherteachers(orsubs)onhowtoworktheprogramaswell.Iwill
likelyincludethatasafuture21stCenturyLesson.
Padletworkedgreatforthislessonaswell.ItwasbecausePadletissuchaversatile
webbasedprogram(worksonanydevicewithinternet,noApprequired),thatIlikeusingitin
theclassroom.Studentscanuseanysmartphone,iPod,tablet,andevenNetbook,ifthecamera
isactivated.ForthislessonIstayedwithiPadsinordertokeepitmorecontainedandsinceIwas
pairingthemup,wehadexactlytherightnumberofdevices.
TheembeddingofthePadletsintothewebsitedidnotturnoutasIhadhoped.The
imagesstayedtoolargetodisplaymorethanafewatatime.Italsoopensupinteractionbythe
public.IbelievesettingscanbemadetorequiresignintoeachPadletbutthentheeaseof
startingtheactivityislost.
Thelessonitselfwasmeanttobeawrapupfortheunitbutitdidrequiremorefollowup
thanIexpected.Studentsdiddemonstratetheirdifferentlevelsofabilityandknowledgeon
findingnonfictiontextfeaturesbutIdidneedtosupplementtherubricofthePadletpagewith
someteacherconferencing.Manystudentsexcelledwiththescavengerhuntwhileothersdid
strugglealittle.Forthem,theindependentworkonthePadletsiteandapersonalconversation
withmeaskingformoredetailwasneededtoensureIwastrulyfindingouttheirlevelof
knowledgeofnonfictiontextfeatures.
