- When planning my lessons, I have chosen topics and activities that I believe will be meaningful to

students,
by considering connections to their real lives and past experiences, and their interests based on

their
current emotional and social development.

- When implementing learning situations, I am sure to have all of the necessary materials available for my

students,
and try to predict any additional materials they may need to help with the learning. I come

prepared
for
each lesson I implement, to ensure it runs smoothly, and to make sure my students get the

most
out of the time spent on that learning opportunity.

- During learning situations, I pose questions to students to try to get the maximum amount of student

input
possible - that way the lessons are pushed forward by the students and their ideas, and I can

respond
appropriately
and
help
guide
the
lesson
as
needed.

- During the field experience I am teaching grade one, and I have planned opportunities for group work to

encourage students to learn how to cooperate and consider the needs of their classmates. When

students engage in group work I help guide them through any problems, and celebrate their successes as

team.

- When implementing learning situations I try to predict problems that may arise in order to try to prevent

them; if issues arise I remain flexible and attempt to solve them with as little disruption to my students as

HowhaveIdevelopedthiscompetencyduringthiscourseorprofessionalseminar/fieldexperience?

- During my FE4 I have picked up on the daily routine in place in the classroom, and have taken on the

implementation
of these routines.

- I have implemented my own system to get the attention of my students, so that they know when it is

time
to listen. I chose a unique system for each of the two classes I teach, based on what would work

best
for that group of students.
- I have followed the class system of having a "Person of the Day" who helps with tasks to ensure the

smooth
running of the day, and of choosing a "Mystery Person", who is revealed at the end of the day if

they
were caught exhibiting positive behaviors. By continuing these systems I involved students in

upholding
classroom expectations, and made them an important and vital part of ensuring the smooth

running
of
the school day.

- I planned activities that would hold student attention, to prevent inappropriate behaviour or loss of

attention; I adapted my teaching as needed by teaching in smaller "chunks" or by incorporating

movement
and breathing breaks to help students refocus.
- I maintain a calm, pleasant, and positive attitude in the classroom and around my students, to set the

tone
expected of my students, and set up a comfortable environment for learning.

HowhaveIdevelopedthiscompetencyduringthiscourseorprofessionalseminar/fieldexperience?

- I worked with a number of students with learning disabilities, social maladjustments, or handicaps

within
the groups of students I taught. I got to know these students to help me learn how best to meet

their
needs and teach in a way that would help them achieve success.

- I differentiated my instruction to meet the needs of students with learning disabilities, or who needed

extra
guidance, and also differentiated my instruction to meet the needs of students who were

succeeding
and needed further challenges. For example, I planned extension activities or extra/more

challenging
work for the students who could be pushed further.

- I worked to create a classroom environment where all students are accepted, and where everybody
understands that not everybody is at the same place or level of understanding, however we are all

working towards doing our personal best. I emphasized that we all have different strengths and

weaknesses,
and we would learn best in an environment of support and trust, where students feel

comfortable
to ask questions or ask for help.

- I planned and implemented differentiated instruction throughout my instruction - this was something I
planned
for when developing my lessons, and carried out when teaching.

HowhaveIdevelopedthiscompetencyduringthiscourseorprofessionalseminar/fieldexperience?

- My classroom had limited access to ICT during my FE4, however I took advantage of as many

opportunities
as possible to incorporate it into my lessons. I was able to show my students short videos

when
a laptop was available; this worked well for my grade one students as the short videos captured

their
attention, engaged them in the topic, and provided a nice way to move into further lessons.

- I also took advantage of ICT to incorporate music into the classroom as often as possible. I used the
classroom
laptop to play calming music as students read or worked quietly, and incorporated it into a

lesson
on emotions as we explored emotions in music.

- I effectively used ICT during my planning to research topics of my teaching, to develop teaching
materials, to write up lesson plans, and to communicate with my cooperating teacher.
