A. Preparation for Learning

1. Gaining Attention: How many of you already own some

type of smartphone such as an Android or Apple iPhone?
(Notice show of hands.) You can build upon that knowledge
when you learn about how to use the iPad
2. Objective (Direction): The goal of this workshop is to inform
and to equip you in regards to the primary skills needed to
operate an Apple iPad and to utilize its basic applications.
3. Recall: Up to this point you have been teaching through the
old methods which have kept us behind the rest of the modern
world. While these methods may still work for us locally, they
are no longer working for us globally. The rest of the world
has access to more current materials that can be updated on a
daily basis. We must be able to access this information so that
we can keep our students current in their academics.

3. Elicit performance (practice) and provide feedback:

a. Avid Beginners - The learners are enthusiastic to learn
a new skill and may be somewhat apprehensive
because they are about to enter a change process. They
need clear instructions and lots of feedback because
the task is new, and a little support.
b. Disillusioned Beginners - The level of technical
support becomes less so that they may experiment
with their learning style that works best. They have
reached failure a few times which means emotional

support must increase to help with their confidence.

c. Reluctant Learners They have become capable in
performing their new skill. The amount of guidance
drops to a few pointers so that they can experiment.
They are still not confident so emotional support stays
high to help build confidence.
d. Task Performers - Little direction and little support are
required. They begin to take ownership of their new
tasks and responsibilities.
Min: 25

a. Review: After about 1 or 2 hours of class, depending

upon the complexity of the material, perform
reflection or review activities.
b. Reflection is an active process (the doer must think) do it in pairs, groups and individually.
c. Reviews can also be an activity, i.e. toss a Nerf ball
around, the receiver of the ball then explains or lists
what he thought was a major ideal or concept. The ball
is then tossed to another person to encourage them to
share their learning experience from the workshop.

Time: 20 min

4. Evaluation: Know what behaviors are to be looked for and

how they are rated. These behaviors MUST support the

learner outcomes (learning objective). Pass out the Teacher

iPad Proficiency Checklist.
5. Retention and Transfer: This material will be used on a daily
basis in class and for preparation of lesson materials for all
teachers.
