Description: Personal logo for copy editing skills.
Objectives: Use only illustrator tools and complete logos to fit a compnay or business.
Process: I used the Adobe Illustrator software to design several different logo ideas.
I chose the design that I liked the best and that fit the description of a copy editor. I
wanted a design that was professional but tasteful as well with color scheme and
typography. I changed the size of the logo and made sure that it only consisted of two
different font styles. I used the pen tool to design the brackets that box around the
text. I used the line tool to create the three small lines underneath the b and the j. I
used the square tool to create the box around the middle logo.

Description: Personal business card for copy editing profession.
Objectives: Use basic design prinipcles from Illustrator and InDesign to create a logo
and business card. Apply proper typography and use watermarks and drop shadows.
Process: I created two 3.5 x 2 boxes so that I could have accurate working space. I made
my logo with lower opacity a placed it on one side of the card. I made the size of my
name 16pt, copy editor 8pt, and the rest of the font 12pt. For the front size of the card
I used the line tool to create the three small lines under b and w. I spaced out my
name to add contrast.

Description: Professional stationary and letterhead for copy editing profession
Objectives: Create business professional stationary that is consistent with the business
card layout.
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to design the pencil and watermark. I used the pen
tool and shape tool to create the pencil. I shaped the letter B and the letter W together with the pathfinder and then dimmed the opacity. When I completed the logo
and other designs, I opened and InDesign document and placed the design. I then
created the stationary and business cards.
In Indesign I created a page for my stationary. I placed the pencil on the right side of
the page and resized it to fit the space. I placed my logo in the top left corner and also
resized it to fit the space. I created four different text boxes for my information that I

Description: A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.
Objectives: Acquire working knowledge of HTML and CSS and size and optimize original logo that will appeal to the target audience.
Process: I created this web page using TextWrangler and css. Throughout the creation
process, I created a folder that included all of my materials: my personal logo, my
background image, a CSS document, and an HTML document. I changed my font and
backup font to Arial and Helvetica. I used padding around the title Copy Editor so
that it would be centered in the green box.
I added a black border around the box and made the background color of the box a light
yellow. I lowered the opacity of the yellow box so that the background image could be
seen. I wanted to match the colors in my personal document to the background image.

Description: A two-sided folding brochure.
Objectives: Create an original logo and incorporate quality images to design a full
bleed, two-sided brochure.
Process: I first designed my logo with the Adobe Illustrator tools. I used the basic
shape tool along with the pen tool to get the lettering and the circle.
As for the layout of the brochure, the dimension is an 1812. I used the ruler to make
sure my brochure folded over and matched up perfectly. I liked the idea of having the
binoculars on the front and the fence on the back cover. For the text on the back on the
brochure I lowered the opacity and used shadow effects so that it showed up well.
In the inside cover, I used the shape tool to create the circle and square shapes. I edited
the photos in photoshop prior to placing them on the page. I used InDesign to complete the brochure.

Programs Used: Microsoft Word
Description: A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft
Word and a scanner.
Objectives: Comprehend image sizing and learn how to use Word design features without programs liek Photoshop.
Process: I scanned the image of the girl walking through the desert. I liked the picture
because she appears to have good taste in fashion but then she is just randomly out in
the desert. I liked the shades of yellow and red (brick) to go along with the picture. The
picture is almost fading in the sunlight so I felt like the colors added good contrast. I
chose a script font for Fashion Show because most things pertaining to fashion are
fancy or artsy. I chose a sans serif font for the quote and the body of the text because it
is a fundraiser by a high school so I wanted it to be young but a good read for the body.
I aligned the text to the left of the girl because I felt like it would keep the viewer attention as the eyes would continue to follow the direction she is walking.

Programs Used: Photoshop
Description: An inspirational montage created by blending two images and using
typography.
Objectives: Learn how to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks.
Process: I cropped the sky background image to 8.5 x 11. I edited the image color levels
and added a
paintbrush filter. I added a mask to the background to touch of the levels and used
a 30% opacity. I inserted the balloon image. Originally, the balloon was in the same
frame with a temple steeple, but i cropped the steeple out. I used the quick selection
tool to get the balloon exactly the outline that I wanted and then I dragged it onto the
background image. I added the same filter to the hot air ballon and put a mask on it to
blend it in with the background. I added the text and spaced the lines of the text for
more contrast. I used a filter on the text to make it stand out behind the clouds. Then,
I used a mask to make sure the text wasnt blurry when printed on paper.

Description: A quality photo to demonstrate proper photo editing along with an event.
Objectives: Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills. Incorporate
proper color scehme to blend with the image and layout design.
Process: First, I chose a color scheme that was a spilt complimentary. I took a photo
that represented the rule of thirds and also had a foreground focus. I used a T3i Cannon
camera and adjusted the focus a zoom manually. I took the photo in the first few hours
of the day so that I could get proper lighting and exposure. I edited the photo in photoshop by adjusting the levels and other elements. I designed an 8.5 x 11 layout with the
split complimentary color scheme, proper text, and image. I inserted the proper color
scheme by placing the color wheel into my photoshop project. I used the eye dropper
color tool to have an accurate match of the colors that I was using. I inserted colors
orage, red, and teal with proper swatches and labels.

Description: Black, gray, and white flier to promote a leadership conference for graduates.
Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Process: First I made several different sketches to get the design process going. Next, I
moved to the Indesign program to test out my sketch ideas. I used the circles to attract
attention towards the top of the page and the event. The circles are also a form of repetition as they are used as bullet points for the body of the text. I put the question: Do
you want to have the competitive edge in business? in the top right corner so that the
page would even out while leaving just enough white space for contrast.
