BROCHURE
description:
A Brochure for an Online tabletop supply store.

date:
03/27/2016

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
InDesign CC

objectives:
* Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
* Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
* Incorporate quality images. One should clipped and text wrapped.
* Write at least 250 words of original copy.
* Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex color

process:
The first big thing for me was figure out how I wanted the Brochure to fold,
that took a few hours, ended up going with a offset single fold. After that
the graphic part of the design was the next big thing I had to hammer
out. Went with waves at first to kind of fit with lava, that did not look
good at all. Ended up going the diagonal strips, they fit more with a
volcano. After that I just had to place the pictures. Getting the dice
to line up with the strips took a good while to get to look right.

EVENT AD
description:
A Full Color Ad for a charity event.

date:
01/31/2016

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
Microsoft Word

objectives:
* Comprehend image sizing.
* Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
* Create a full-bleed design.
* Choose a color scheme and typeface that work for your message and audience.
* Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs.

process:
This was done in Word since we werent supposed to use anything else.
I had to download the fonts I used, and that took a good while to find
ones that really fit with the audience. Since my scanner was sensitive
enough to pick up every little ink dot in every image I scanned I had
to use the built in filters in word to work around that. At first I went
with an orange scheme, but after testing out some others, blue
fit the best. Thats all that I can really think of that had to
happen at the moment. There really wasnt much else that
happened beside tweaking positions and font sizes.

MONTAGE
description:
An inspirational poster with a Spiritual theme.

date:
02/14/2016

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
Photoshop CC

objectives:
* Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
* Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message
* Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
* Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
* Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
* Apply typography principles.
* Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)
* Select good quality images

process:
Photoshop was the program this time around. Masking took a good
while to look right. Also had to look up custom text-box shapes. At
first you could not see the white text very well until I added the
black background behind it. The quote was rather long and
peoples eyes didnt really know where to go, which is why
I changed the color of he important parts so lazy eyes
didnt have to search for important things as hard.

LETTERHEAD
description:
A set of stationary for a company, this one is a letterhead.

date:
02/28/2016

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
InDesign CC

objectives:
* Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
* Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.
* Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a letterhead.
* Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
* Keep designs simple.
* Include contact information.

process:
InDesign and a lots of boxes. Took a good couple of hours to get
all them in the right place. After getting them all in place it turned
out that having the little jagged line go all across the top was too
much on the eyes, so I chopped to down to its current size.

date:

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
InDesign CC

objectives:
* Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
* Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
* Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
* Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign
document to keep links in InDesign intact.

process:
The first thing that happened was the sketches. Then I made a mock-up
of each in InDesign and then went with the one I felt worked the best. I had
everything right aligned, but people I asked said they had issues with that
so left aligned it was. After that I toned down the gradients so they
were not as harsh as they were at first. I feel that they do add a bit of
contrast. The logo, text and image were provided by the client.

BUSINESS CARD
description:
A set of stationary for a company, this time a business card.

date:

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
InDesign CC

objectives:
* Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
* Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.
* Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card.
* Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
* Keep designs simple.
* Include contact information.

process:
Pretty much just took the logo and contact info from the Letterhead
and moved them into place on the card. The only really hard part
for this one was getting the font sizes to behave after I resized
the logo because I didnt make the L and G outlines. That
took a good long while to make it look right again.

LOGOS
description:
A logo for an Online game supply store everything from video games
and parts to tabletop supplies (dice, rule-books and the like).

date:
02/21/2016

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
Illustrator CC

objectives:
* Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to them.
* Use only the Illustrator tools.
* Refine one logo with variations for color

process:
This one was a bit tedious for me. Getting all of the pixels in the
right place and having to group the right colors together for hours
will leave your mind a soft and squishy mush. Didnt really know
how to use the pathfinder tool yet so all none of them are joined
which makes managing the sections a really big pain.

PHOTO DESIGN
description:
A portfolio sample made for a job application demonstrating ability with photos.

date:
02/07/2016

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
Photoshop CC

objectives:
* Learn basic photography skills.
* Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those
colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.
* Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
* Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool with NDE
* Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
* Print with full-bleed margins.

process:
Used Photoshop CS6 for this one. The shapes I added are paths since
I couldnt get it to look right with just filling selections on there own
layers. I think it had something to do with the project resolution. That
was really the only thing that didnt take 5 minutes, that and color
adjustments. Going strictly Gold and Violet did not look good, so
the Gold had to be toned down to a pale yellow and the Violet
a darker off purple. Thats pretty much it for this project.

WEB PAGE

date:
03/13/2016

course/instructor:
Comm 130 Section 15
Sara Tranberg

program(s)/tools:
Firefox, Photoshop, Notepad++

objectives:
* Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web.
* Write content to describe the process of creating your
logo and how it appeals to a target audience.
* Acquire a working knowledge of HTML.
* Acquire a working knowledge of CSS.
* Identify hex colors to match logo.

process:
The main part of the process for this Project was using CSS to make
sure everything looked right. I used Notepad++ and Firefox while I
worked on his one. I did not take very long at all to get the HTML
typed up, the most had to work on the most was making sure the
CSS worked, I did have a few issues now and then with it.
