Spiritual Montage
Description:

A Spiritual Montage blending two or more

images together using advanced features in
photoshop.

Date:

February 14, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05
Ben Pingel

Programs Used:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Create a spiritual montage using photoshop. Blend together several images with a spiritual theme so that you cant tell
where on image starts and the other stops.

Process:

I started by finding a message I would like to use and then looked for the images that would illustrate that principal. I found
difficulty when using the image of the dad reading to his daughter because the background was a bright green grassy field and it
cause a glow effect when blending. I had to edit that image using selective coloring to tone down the green. I then inserted that
image and began blending it. I then added some glassine blur around the people to create focus on them. Next I added two textures,
stone and water, and put them in grey scale so they wouldnt affect the overall colors very much when I changed their opacity using
a mask. Text was the last thing I added using different fonts that helped support the feel of the piece.

Programs Used:

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create a folded brochure featuring a new logo and 4 images. One image must be edited in photoshop to removet he
background. The brochure can be informational or for advertising.

Process:

I designed this brochure in indesign using logos and images edited in both Illustrator and Photoshop as well. I was careful to use
similar colors that would match my color scheme as well as design elements that would attract my target market. I edited the pool
logo first to make the water the right colors and then created my own design logo for the back called Shannon Studios. I used
illustrator to do both. I also used illustrator to create the map for the back page. For the image with the background cut out I used
photoshop and the quick select tool I also had to add masks to help the colors blend with my brochure background.

Programs Used:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Design a logo completely from scratch using only illustrator and observing basic FOCUS skills.

Process:

I designed this logo using Adobe Illustrator by first creating 3 distant and different logos. I then created a greyscale and white
on color background version of each. After narrowing the most popular I finalized the one above. I found a unique font online that
would go with my message. I also used the pen tool and manipulated paths to make the golf ball. I was careful to change all text to
objects so that they would be available on any computer.

Programs Used:
Microsoft Word

Objectives:

Design an event ad using only Microsoft Word. Demonstarte understanding of color schemes and flow in the design

Process:

I started by finding a topic I found interesting like fishing. I then found some images to scan at a high resolution for my flier. I looked
for ways to add soft edges and fading to my image while also considering the flow in the angle of the fish. The triangles add a great
place for basic info about the event. And guide the eye to the call to action for registration.

Objectives:

Design a Graduate Leadership flier using one of several provided images and a logo. Demonstrate good
understanding of typography and layout FOCUS Skills.

Process:

I looked at different ways to present my message through presenting the title and subtitles contrasting different words in my
original sketches. Through experimentation and various critiques I narrowed my target market and created better flow through
my alignment and placement of different objects. I also was sure to contrast words in the body and my call to action that would
help capture my audience, lead them to read more, and to create urgency to act. Using a good balance of negative space and text I
attempted to avoid something that was too busy or cluttered.

Programs Used:

Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Design a brand new logo to use in a business card. Create a general feel to match stationary and the overall
message the company is trying to get accross. Include all essential information.

Process:

Using Illustrator I created a simple and elegant logo for a hypothetical marketing company. I used several different shapes and
manipulated paths to created the arrow. I then exported the logo to Indesign to create the 3.5 x 2 business card. Using the shape
and angle of the arrow in the logo as well as the contrasting color scheme I created flow in the card. On the business card the back
white triangle is to appear as if the point of the arrow/angular shape is wrapped around the card. Keeping lots of negative space in
the card help keep attention on the my name as well as the companys.

Design a brand new logo to use in a letterhead. Create a general feel to match the business card and the
overall message the company is trying to get accross. Include all essential information.

Process:

Using Illustrator I created a simple and elegant logo for a hypothetical marketing company. I used several different shapes and
manipulated paths to created the arrow. I then exported the logo to Indesign to create the business card and letterhead. Using the
shape and angle of the arrow in the logo as well as the contrasting color scheme I created flow in the letterhead. In an effort to
leave as much space for writing as possible while still leaving the triangular shape in the letterhead, I set the margins to .25. I also
made sure to lighten the watermark as much as possible to not distract from the letter.

Objectives:

Create a webpage featuring one of the logos you created previously. Include descriptions and the overall proccess
followed. Match fonts and colorschemes of the Logo.

Process:

I created this site using Text Wrangler on a mac. I used my logo, a custom CSS file, and an html file in a single folder. Some of the
major things I changed were colors, widths, alignment, fonts, and divs. I went back and forth trying different ways of layering
classes for divs but decided that simplicity would be better. I moved the header outside the container class and widened the
banner. I also changed the rounded edges to be more subtle. Lastly, I moved the bullet points in a little so they would create a nicer
flow to the text.

Programs Used:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Take a professional picture considering color scheme and content carefully. Edit the image in Photoshop beign sure to use
the editing procedures.

Process:

This design was completely done in photoshop using an image I took. I was sure to take a picture inside allowing for the most
light possible through windows and lamps. I attempted to keep with the rule of thirds in my image. The one of the challenges was
to design the actual flier in photoshop after editing the image itself. I was able to figure out how to use the many different tools
available in photoshop to help with actual image editing. In showing my color swatches I used repetitive elements and fonts that
appealed to my message.
