Brief Summary of the Project:
Karcher Church of the Nazarene will host a weeklong camp for neighboring
children, in grades 1-8, to promote the humanities. Three tracts will be
available for children to register in; including arts, science, and literature.
Professionals in each area will give guidance, inspire, and teach children in
the respective tract. The arts tract will include several sessions of art
appreciation and learning from major artists, time to create art projects
under the guidance of professionals, and as a culminating experience will
visit an art museum and showcase their own work. The Science tract will
include sessions learning about basic science practices and children will
design experiments and finally will tour the science facilities at a local
university. The Literature camp will include time spent analyzing great
literature, creating stories under the guidance of experienced writers and

illustrators, and finally will have the chance to meet with authors as a
culminating activity.
Humanities Content:
This projects objective is to reach children and get them excited about the
humanities. The project will include three different central humanities
disciplines, including art history and criticism, science, and literature. The
students in the art tract will spend time studying influential artists
throughout time, learn from modern artists and create individual art
alongside art scholars. The science camp will focus on the theories of
science and how science has impacted the beliefs in different cultures.
Participants will gain critical knowledge of what it means to inquire and
experiments. The literature camp will be focused on the appreciation of
great literature and understanding what it means to create literature.
Participants will create their own book or comic.
Project Activities:
This project is a joint effort of the staff at Karcher Church of the Nazarene.
The staff has a heart for the community around our property and wants the
children to see a future for themselves and be eager to pursue education in
the humanities, as well as STEM fields. The critical objectives are as follows:
1. The participant will be able to understand the critical components of
the tract they have chosen (science, art, or literature).
2. The participant will be inspired to engage in the humanities in the
future and will create their own project alongside scholars.
The Format for activies will be in the form of a day camp for one week. The

Intended Audience and Publicity Plan
We expect to have up to 80 participants in these activities. The project is
intended for the general public, however we will target students specifically
from low income families. In order to target such population, we will meet
with school counselors in our zones to connect with families who would be
most interested.
To market this event, we will specifically work alongside the schools to
promote the event. In addition, we will create flyers to post at the Nampa
Public Library, the Flying M, and other community boards.
Explain how you plan to evaluate the success of the project
The success of this program will be determined by three categories:
1. Participant
a. Participants are engaged, and produce work that is of high
quality
2. Monetary
a. The success of this program will be determined by the manner in
which we remain under budget, and yet still produce a quality
program
3. Effect
a. The goal is to impact the students. Through reflection, we will be
able to determine the effect we have had.
