Fuel of the Future

Abby Broxon, Danielle Clark, Adrianna Collins, & Emma Smith

Project Objective
Our environment is dying. All because of us.

We must develop a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly source of fuel.

We must combine two or three of the fuel sources.
We must know the $/barrel of fuel.
We must know the impacts on the environment our combination will have.
We have a budget of $1,000,000 and a need for 60,000 units of energy.

Mission Statement
We as a company strive to create proficient and clean
energy to our community by combining different fuels
that will help the environment while producing plenty of
energy for all..

How our fuel

combination will
change the
environment

Uses only 5% octane

Only 8.9 x 105 moles of CO2 are
emitted
Higher quality fuels that are
better for the environment
(methanol and ethanol)

The CO2 Emissions in Stoichiometric Form

We are paid $.10/mole for being under the limit

We make $7000
extra for being
under the CO2
emissions limit

Conversions
Molar Mass Conversions

Moles of Fuel to Energy Conversions

Ethanol (C2H6O)

Ethanol (27 moles per barrel)

(12 x 2) + (1 x 6) + 16 = 46g

27 moles x 866 barrels = 18576 units of energy

Methanol (CH3OH)

Methanol (15 moles per barrel)

12 + (1 x 4) + 16 = 32g

15 moles x 2820 barrels = 42300 units of energy

Octane (C8H18)

Octane (8 moles per barrel)

(12 x 8) + (1 x 18) = 114g

8 moles x 1044 barrels = 8352 units of energy

CO2 Emissions
Findings
Extra carbon dioxide increases the
greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is
where heat is trapped in the atmosphere.
The trapped heat causes the planet to
become hotter than it normally would be.
This is also known as global warming.
