Being the Prime Minister of India Activity

Brennan Armknecht

Issues
Historical Issue:
1) Historically, Hindus of India and Muslims of Pakistan do not get along. Ever since their
independence from Great Britain, many border disputes happen and minorities get
mistreated. This has been a problem since Muslims separated from India. Ever since
Pakistan declared its independence, border disputes have erupted between the
predominantly Hindu country of India and the predominantly Muslim country of
Pakistan.

Economical Issue
2) Economically, India is struggling. It has the largest economy in the world, yet half the
citizens live below the poverty line. About two thirds of all Indian people are farmers.
However, they lack enough land to produce enough crops for profit. Many different
methods for resolution have been thought of, but no real progress has been made.

Cultural Issue
3) The biggest struggle of culture is that India has been conquered so many times.
Nowadays, rules and regulations are hard to make because you are almost always
offending a culture, disregarding a cultures views, or not catering to a cultures beliefs.
This is a big problem in India because to enhance the country from past issues, new rules
and regulations need to be put into effect.

Bonus Issue
4) You could make a convincing argument that the biggest barrier to the political and
economic enhancement of India is the language barrier. According to the Constitution of
India, there are 18 major languages spoken and acknowledged throughout the country.
Compared to America, that is a ton. However, the biggest blow is that respectively, there
are over 1,000 different languages and dialects spoken in this country. This makes
countrywide communication virtually impossible.

Solutions

1) My solution is to have one set week in which all Muslims and Hindus decide to be a
member of their majority or their minority. This way, anyone who is opposed to the
government favoring the other religious group can join their majority group. Also
religious and border disputes will be less common.
2) My solution to the economic problem is to create more jobs in the cities of India. This
will cause many people to move and new areas will be built. Also, as more and more
people migrate to the city, more land will be available for farmers to mass produce crops
and take advantage of the fertile soil.
3) This is one of the hardest challenges to face, as many will not be willing to give up their
cultural beliefs. However, if all of the reforms mentioned take place and all land will still
be claimed by different cultures, then there will be no need for cultural change.
4) This challenge is rather easy to face, it just requires time and effort. The government
needs to find a widespread national language and apply it to all public schools. Free
lessons will be offered to others to learn the language. By the next generation, all Indians
will be speaking the same language.

Pros and Cons

1) Pro: Separation between anyone who wants it is a plus. I believe that there will be a lack
of disputes and generally less conflict.
Con: Lots of chaos would occur, there is 1/5 of the worlds population in the subcontinent, which can cause some sticky situations.
2) Pro: Win-Win situation as people move for jobs and their land can be used for farming.
Con: Challenges will be brought up as more people move to cities. Some of these
challenges could be:

Population Density could get too high

Roads would need to be modernized
Pollution would increase with more people

3) Pro: This situation will take care of itself.

Con: Some cultures might not want to give up their homeland, which would counter
Solution 2. If one of the other solutions fail, this one will too.

4) Pro: Easy to face this issue. All you need to do is pick a widespread language and put it
into effect.
Con: This will take a long time (about 10-20 years) to establish a widespread language.
