INTRODUCTION I DO
Video
This video will give students an introduction to the story. Some children may already know
how the story goes and then they will be able to sing along with the song. The video can be
found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TRvjwoeygw.

TASK(S) I DO
Read the Book Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow
The children will now be more familiar with the story by watching the quick video. They will be able to
concentrate on the story and know how the story goes. Reading this will give them a nice refresher
before they have to do an activity.

ACTIVITY/PROCESS WE DO
Class Activity
Ask the students for volunteers. (5 students needed) If students do not offer to help pick
randomly.
Have each volunteer pick an instrument out of the box that will make a sound of them
hitting their head.
The five students (monkeys) will then stand in the front in a line with their instrument.
Label each monkey 1-5 so they know the order they will fall down.
We will sing the song of Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. (This way students
who didnt get to be monkeys can be involved also.)
The students will pretend to be jumping on a bed by jumping up and down or moving
around.
As the class sings the song, the monkey who is number 1 will fall down first when the
song sings 1 fell off and pumped his head.
The monkeys can create their own way to fall down and sound to make when they hit the
floor with their instrument. (sound block,
The song will continue until all the monkeys are on the floor.

INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY - YOU DO

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed Hand Version
As a follow up activity, you could have the students use their own hands to create the monkeys on their
fingers. They could sing the song or if they do not know all the words you could sing the song while they
do the finger actions.

CONCLUSION
Wrap Up
This activity is a kid favorite. Children seem to love its simple rhyme and cute story line. It also is a
good way to get kids up and moving. They love to dance around and be monkeys. It lets them get rid
of some build up energy throughout the day.
