Reflection
This is my personal reflection of my 2nd draft to my Inquiry Proposal. I went to my peer
review on Friday at 12:30 with Billy, Monique, and Ms. Thomas. I learned a lot during this time
about my writing. I was given both positive encouragement and several critiques that I should
adjust in my 2nd draft of my proposal. They told me that I should look into asking a friend why
they have a phone and look into putting pictures in for my portfolio that address my topic more.
I addressed the question by asking a close friend about the reason he has a smartphone and I
plan adding pictures of different phones in my portfolio. My peers also suggested to search more
into how smartphones have affected peoples way of life. I think that with the input of my peers, I
am now able to know a couple of other peoples view on my writing for my inquiry question and
eventually for my thesis writing.
World War III: Technology
After going back and forth on several realistic topics that deal with todays society to
discuss for my inquiry question, I finally decided on a question that is recently new to mankind
within the last few decades and how this item has restricted civilization. This device has been
extremely beneficial to the human race, as you cannot walk into a room without seeing it held in
peoples hands. I am talking about cellular phones in society, and how one can have nearly
anything they want to look up; and or communicate with anyone in the blink of an eye. Has the
evolution of smartphones changed modern society? What would society be like if every person

did not possess a handheld computer? I chose this question as the development and generations
of phones continue to increase in capability and I wanted to explore this topic more into detail.
Since the creation of the telephone in 1878 by Alexander Graham Bell, the development
of cell phones exploded in the power that they contain. At one point, most people possessed a
Landline; this was a phone that people used inside of their house that was connected to a wall,
and that was their only form of telecommunication. The younger generations in todays society
may not even know what a Land Line is as their family probably had got rid of this wall phone
years ago with the increase in technology. In the 1980s, the first phone was created that you
could hold in your hands which weighed close to two pounds. Over the span of three decades,
phones began to decrease in size, an increase in capability. This was through the development of
texting, which has become one of the biggest forms of communication. Finally, in today's
society in the United States, the majority of the population holds a skinny touch screen based
computer that can practically do anything you want it to do. This is known as the Smart Phone
and has the ability to text, call, play games, use of social media, GPS, and the ability to have
internet access. The invention of this device, whether you like it or not, has begun to take over
modern society.
The word Technology has evolved over centuries from ways of transportation, the power
a device can hold, and the enhancement of the human race. I interviewed a friend of mine who
works with the Niner Times which makes the use of technology a must. His name is Trevor, and
I asked him about why he has a phone. Trevor said, I use my phone for social media, sports,
and to stay connected with relatives. This shows how the use of phones is vital to success in
ones career success in society.

Technology is used differently for every person, however, for the most part, people tend
to be similar to each other. One reason for the great expansion of the generations of phones and
why they have been so successful is that companies tend to market to the younger generation. If
a company gets a group of teenagers to enjoy a product, they will tell their friends, and
eventually their friends will have to get the product so they do not feel left out.
The development of technology has also affected the older generation, and caused them
to play catch up. This is not in every elder person, as for some people such as grandparents,
would much rather possess a simple phone that does the basics of what people need now. These
basic phones work well for some people as they do not have learn a whole lot of in depth
information, but can still call or even text loved ones. These plain phones cost little to nothing
for being how useful they are to some people.
The amount of information regarding cell phones and technology in general is unreal. If
you type into a Google search the word phones the first things that pop up are locations to the
nearest phone company outlet store, and the newest products that are on the market such as the
Apple iPhone 6s and the Samsung Galaxy 6. For most people, if you asked them what type of
phone they have, you have a good chance to hear one of these two options as they are two of the
most popular smartphones on the market to date. This raises a new look of possible questions
that one could think of. One would be, what makes some phones more popular to different
people? I feel this would be a good question to have answered as for the most part, both basic
phones and smartphones in general all do similar processes.
This is my inquiry question and I hope that others will be able to relate to what has been
stated and from their own personal experiences. My intentions are for people to understand how

the evolution of smart phones has begun to impact societys way of life and the effects they can
have on generations. The use of smart phones can be the creation of something that can impact
the ways of lives for everybody on Earth now and forever. There is no going back from this
point, only going forward with technology and the role it will affect people on a daily basis.
