What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Music videos that have a meaning behind them and work with the lyric towards the
song so what they are singing about you will see in the video or a representation of
what they are trying to put across.

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

The style of the music video is narrative because the artist sings about previous problems in
life that he puts into his song to make it more emotional to the viewer as by its being real
they arent just making it up for the song.

Costume
The characters will be wearing normal clothing because I want it to be a normal day and
nothing different to show the viewer that this happens to the character every day of his life. If
I had them dressed differently it may be misinterpreted. So therefore by keeping it like a
normal day therefore the viewer will be able to feel the emotion that the video is trying to
show.
Lighting
All of the lighting will be natural lighting as again I want to make it look as real as possible.
So if its all natural lighting the viewer will be able to see its a real place and may good be a
real person and not set up to look like this. So if I had lighting into the video I feel it wouldnt
have the same effect with extra lighting so therefore natural lighting works a lot better with
the style of my video.
Locations
I will be using Henley on Thames, in Starbucks, town hall area and the woods just outside of
Henley on Thames. I didnt go far out of Henley because it shows the viewer that the
character is in Henley and may be his home town. This gives the effect of a real life person
and not staged to give that more emotional side to my video.

Shot types
Im going to use mostly simple angles as this will help the viewer focus on the story of my
video and not distract them from the angles and movements. So the song is not about
dancing it has a story about it which goes with the song which is the point of the song.

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
I have watched the 1975 as a similar genre to twenty one pilots. Because in all of their
videos have a story behind it which twenty one pilots do. Therefore I used the 1975 style of
video to use for my video as they tell the story in such a good way which makes it look real
and if it had actually happened.

These songs are similar because they are talking about previous things that have happened to
them. Therefore using the same style as twenty one pilots.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

These videos have influenced my decisions greatly because this is an

incredibly similar idea to mine so therefore I research the techniques and
movements they used to help my production looks as professional as
possible and to show the story Im trying to tell in my video in a way that the
viewer will understand easily and well.

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?
The meaning of the song is when everything gets tough it was so easy to forget about when
your mum sings to you when it gets hard. And you could easily forget about it. Stressed Out
is about the transition from childhood to adulthood. The music is intense and varied with a
wide array of styles being mashed into the only 3:45 long, also-unique music video, in which
Tyler and Josh revisit their childhood homes and families to ride kids three wheelers and
perform in their old bedrooms. The chorus is a simple wish for the good old days. Back
then, whatever had Tyler stressed out could be solved by his mother singing him to sleep.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
When the artist sings about his mum singing to him when it gets tough I will have an
imaginary mum appearing and singing to his son when it is hard and disappearing when that
part of the song ends. And the rest of the time will be a character looking stressed out and
looking like life looks hard and you cant seem to be happy.
