Identification of Learning Problem

Target Audience:

The primary audience consist of certified highly qualified elementary school teachers.
Participating teachers ages vary from early twenties up to late fifties. All participating teachers
provide direct academic instruction students.
Problem Identification:
While each classroom has several Chromebooks and access to two computers-on-wheels carts,
many teachers are not utilizing these resources beyond I Learn and AR computer programs. Each
class has a scheduled time during the week to work with the instructional technology or general
technology teacher. These classroom have newer model all-in-one computers. There is also an
additional computer lab which contains older model desktop computers. At the beginning of the
2015-2016 school year, the instructional technology teacher began creating Google accounts for
all students. The school objective for purchasing more computers and giving students access to
their own Google accounts, is to provide students more access to technology at school as well as
at home. Most teachers have been trained on the use of these and other technologies. Except for
school mandated programs such as I Learn, there are a large number of teachers who are hesitant
to incorporate technology, into their classroom curriculum. With input from the instructional
technology teacher, it was suggested that instructing teachers how to incorporate the creating of
videos into their lesson plans would be a practical idea for my staff development assignment.

Instructional Goals:
Learners will create a WeVideo account, connect account to Google Drive, and manage
members/groups
Learners will be able to upload video and images into WeVideo

Learners will be able to create a video using WeVideo

Learners will be able to edit their video by adding or adjusting special effects, captions,
transform, volume, animation, voice over, adding music, theme, and save editing
Learners will be able to review/finalize, select upload to Google Drive, and Finish the video
Learner Analysis
General Learner Characteristics:
The primary learners for this professional development course are 3rd through 5th grade
classroom teachers. The years of teaching experience range from two years through more than
twenty years. The level of education varies from Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood, Masters
Degree in Early Childhood, as well as Specialist Degrees. All learners are caucasian and female.
Entry Characteristics:
All primary learners have at least a basic understanding of how to operate a computer,
Chromebooks, and are able to log into the schools computer network. All learners have received
inservice training in the use of their teacher page located on the school website.
Prior Experience:
While all teachers have incorporated Chromebooks into their classes for use with I Learn
programs, the majority do not use them for anything else. The majority of teachers do not
incorporate video creation in their lesson plans.
Attitude toward Academics:
While there is a common misconception among learners that incorporating video creation into
their classrooms would be difficult and time consuming, the majority recognize the need. Many
of the teachers feel their digital skills need strengthening before they would be ready implement
video creation into their lessons. All learners expressed a desire to learn how to use WeVideo.

Task Analysis
A procedural analysis is the most appropriate for my instructional goal of teaching learners to
upload, create, and edit their own videos. By following a procedural analysis, I will be able to
identify what steps are required to accomplish a task. Utilizing WeVideo, learners will to upload,
create, and edit a video. WeVideo will allow each learner to customize their own videos. My
previous course work has provided me with the knowledge needed to act as the subject-matter
expert (SME) for my topic. My procedural analysis outlines the steps needed for the learners to
log onto their Google account and then the step-by-step directions to create their websites.
Learners will write produce a digital story
Learners will create a WeVideo account, connect account to Google Drive, and manage
