Literature Circles

Final Projects
Your group will need to complete a final project based around ONE of the short
stories you have read. You will present your final project on Friday, Feb. 19 th , and
you will have class time to work on your ideas as a group. However, it is up to you
and your group to decide when to use your time, as you will also need to complete
your literature circle discussions.
As a group, choose and complete ONE of the following projects. Each project also
includes a presentation aspect, except for the literary analysis paper.

Literary Analysis Paper

Short Story Vine
Literary Reduction
Digital Presentation

While each project will be different, they will all be graded on similar criteria.
Your analysis of the essential elements of a short story: setting, plot,
characterization, and conflict.
The quality of your ideas
The effort and aesthetics of your presentation
The entire project is worth 100 points. The above criteria will account for s of
your grade, and the remaining will be based on your individual contribution and
how well you work with your group.
Option 1 Literary Analysis Paper
Your group will write a four page literary analysis paper, complete with introduction,
conclusion, and works cited. While a paper is traditionally written individually, this will
be a group paper that everyone is responsible for writing (1 page for each of you). You
will need to do an in-depth analysis of the essential elements of one of the short stories
(setting, characterization, plot, and conflict) and how they contribute to the storys
themes.
Since this is a paper, you will not need to do a presentation.
Your score will be based on:
Analysis of essential elements
Adherence to style and conventions

Quality of writing

Option 2 Short Story Vine
Your group will create a 10 second Vine version of the short story. Even though your
Vine will be short, you need to capture all the essential elements of your story: the
setting, the plot, the conflict, and characterization. You will also need to complete and
turn in a script annotated with where all of these elements appear in your Vine.
During presentation day, you will share your Vine with the rest of the class by using the
projector. You will then explain your choices and answer any questions your classmates
or teachers have.
Your score will be based on:
Inclusion of essential elements
Annotations of script

Quality of Vine
Responses during Q & A

Option 3 Literary Reduction Poster

Your group will create a poster that visually summarizes the essential elements of one of
the short stories: the setting, the characters, the plot, and the conflict must all be covered.
Your poster should include both text and visuals to help explain the story. We have some
smaller examples from Frankenstein you can look at to give you an idea of what were
looking for.
During presentation day, you will share your poster with the rest of the class and answer
any questions your classmates or teachers have.
Your score will be based on:
Analysis of essential elements
Incorporations of visuals

Quality of posters
Responses during Q & A

Option 4 Digital Presentation

Your group will create a PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Prezi presentation that explains
and summarizes one of the short stories. Your presentation should use visuals (photos or
videos) and text to explain the essential elements of the story: the setting, the characters,
the plot, and the conflict.
During presentation day, you will share your presentation with the rest of the class and
answer any questions your classmates or teachers have.
Your score will be based on:
Analysis of essential elements
Incorporations of visuals

Quality of presentation
Responses during Q & A
