A News programme is about important events that have happened either in England or
anything that is or might effect our country.
What you would expect from a news programme.

A main reporter

Neat, conservative haircut, clean shaven. A suit: professional, respectable and smart.

You would expect to see experts, witnesses and members of the public to explore what
they are talking about.

News fits into this genre because it is easy for everyone to
understand. They make there websites easy so anyone,
whatever age you are. they do this because they know
everyone wants to know what is going on in there country. By
using words that most people can understand to make
watching the news easier for everyone to watch.

people who were there and who are experts on what's
happened.

Documentary
This is a factual programme which means it informs the viewers about all the facts they will
need to know about the topic. It is in the form of a TV programme that would have a
narration playing through out. Also known as a voice over.
Codes and conventions

Voiceover are usually used to be authoritative and it encourages the audience to think
they have kind of specialist knowledge about or in some cases they have the right
opinions that should be payed attention to.

Real footage- all events presented to the audience should be real footage.

Interviews with experts- this is used to authenticate the views to explored in the
documentary. If they disagree with what the document is saying they are proven wrong.

Documentary

David Attenborough is a good example of a good documentary. It has all


the codes and conventions in it to make a good documentary.

This clip is all his favourite moments that he has had in the past 30 years.
These clips show the diversity of our planet and how it is frequently
changing technological face of broadcasting.

Docudrama

A docudrama is braised on something that has happened and is a


programme which is a re-enactment of what happened. Which means it
could be a TV programme or film that is dramatized and has been based
on something that has actually happened.

This clip has been based on true events about OJ Simpson. And
has been made into a 10 part show.

Docusoap

This is a programme biased on real peoples lives that have just been reenacted to show certain parts that would interest the public to watch them in
there very day lives. Docusoap are usually people who either live in the same
area or have the same job.

Geodie shore is a well known British programme


broadcasted on MTV. It is based in Newcastle
and was a British spin off of the American show.
The show consists of 10 people in a house in
Newcastle who go out and get mortal and tash
on. They also have to work together for
someone called Annie who organises party
nights, hen and stag dos which the Geordies
have to lead.

Infotainment

This type on program combines information and


entertainment. Everything being said is designed to be
informative yet entertaining to make sure they gain more
viewers and maintain interest.

Infotainment

A good example of this is the Oprah Winfrey show. It is an


American talk show, which remains highest- rated talk show in
American history. It has many topics, most of them have been
penetrated into the American pop- cultural consciousness. She
has used the show as a fun why of educating the viewers.
Using book clubs, interviews, self- improvement segments and
philanthropic forays into world events.

Reality TV

Reality TV are programmes that present real people who are put in a
particular real life situation. The situations they are un are unscripted
and unrehearsed which is an on going programme it gives the
audience a chance to follow the events that happen on the
programme.

Reality television is a genre of television programme that presents


purportedly unscripted dramatic or humorous situations, documents
actual events, and usually features ordinary people instead pf
professional actors.

The Island with Bear Grylls is a good example of a reality TV show


because it is a show based on survival. Bear Grylls takes 16
everyday people and puts them together on an island to see
how they will survive. This programme is gripping and exciting
because its dangerous and you never know what could
happen. This is a reality programme because know one is there
telling them what to do or what to say. It is all filmed by each
other so they havent got any special crew there looking after
them, they are there completely alone. The only way of
contacting the help team of the island is by a walky talky.

Educational

An educational documentary is all about someone trying to


educate you on a specific topic. In the programme they will talk to
you about all the information they have gathered about that
topic. They should bring in experts on to talk about more facts and
there opinions, this could create a dissection between the
presenter. There might even be people from the incident they are
talking about that can come and tell there story about what
happened.

This educational documentary is about the 9/11


terrorist attack, its an hour and 45 minutes long. It
explains how the twin towers fell and some people
like the firemen where interviewed on how they felt
and what they did to try save people. You see live
footage of people around the buildings reacting to
it, seeing people who had loved ones in the
building and even people who are jumping from
the building.

Wildlife

A wildlife documentary is about plant, animals or


anything else that is un-human living things. These are
usually filmed in the creatures natural habitat so it can
help the viewers experience what they are really like.
The first wildlife programme was on CBC with the series
Fur and Feathers.

Deadly 60.

This programme starts Steve Backshall, who goes around the world trying
to find the deadliest animals in the world. He shows the animals in there
natural habitat.

It is particularly aimed at children and young people.

These type of programme are based on a niche market. For example people
who like fishing will watch programmes about fishing, people who preferred
sports wouldnt.

This is a programme about serial killers who have killed large numbers of
people.

Makeover

A makeover documentary usually has a host of the programme when they


do something nice like makeover there house or give them a makeover.
people like these types of programmes because they show I starting
image say it was someone's house who cant afford to do it up and people
come to there house and make it all nice again. It gives the viewers
something to look forward to.

Makeover

60 minute makeover is a British home interior design TV programme


which Is shown on ITV during the day. It has Peter Andre as the main
presenter of the programme.

The people who's house is getting redecorated is usually put forward


by a family member or a friend so that the people who own the
house will get a nice surprise when they open the door and see
Peter Andre there to get his team in to give there house a
makeover.

This is a short clip of what they did to someone's kitchen and how

Magazine

This type of documentary is about what people would talk


about in magazines. They talk about all the celebrity
gossip and there lives.

These kind of programmes are more fun and relaxed.

They would usually sit on a sofa and talk to other people


on the show and there opinions on what the celebrity's are
doing.

An example of this would be E entertainment. This type of programme talks


about all the celebrity and fashion trends that they are setting.

These types of programmes are about when people sit down and discuss
academic topics.

Review

This type of programme talks about movies and what they thought about
the film and what other critics thought of it. Its not necessarily about films it
could also be about people talking about sport or anything else you could
review and talk about.

They usually have a presenter who talks about what goes on in the film.

They might even bring in the celebrity's from the film to talk about what it
was film filming it.

Chat show

Celebrity Juice is a programme hosted by Keith Lemon on IVT.

He has two teams, one who has holly Willoughby as the team
captain and the other who has either Fearne Cotton or Gino
DAcampo. Each team has two guested on there team who are
celebrity's. this is filmed in a studio in Elstree, Borehamwood,
Herts. This is filmed in front of a audience but it isnt live.

They play funny games on it to embarrass the celebrity.
