BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

The key concept for this lesson is to understand the writing of a very important poet in literature- William
Shakespeare.
The critical academic information is to analyze and understand what was written by Shakspeare.
It connects and builds, for it starts the beginning of imperative poetics and writings, but continues on and helps
us understand literature from that century.
I plan on building by showing change in the different writing styles and different interpretations of literature.
I will need to plan differentiated assessments and activities for those who have different impairments.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

Introduction: I will start off by explaining who Shakespeare was and how he has greatly influenced literature
today.
Procedures: Provide a sequential (step by step) description of the procedures and activities for the lesson.

-To start off, the students will be given the Shakespearean Handout to explain the project they are about
the begin working on. We will go over this together so that I can answer any question. This should take
about 5-10 minutes.
-Then I will introduce them to Prezi. Show them the website and how to create one for their use. This will
take another 5-10 minutes.
-Next, I will assign them to groups by having them number themselves 1-5. This should take only a
couple of minutes.
-Once they are assigned to their groups, I will go by and provide them an Act and a Scene number from
Romeo and Juliet. Approximately 5 minutes.
-Last I will explain how they need to find the main characters, setting, plot, summary, and any added
information to incorporate into their Prezi. Approximately 10 minutes.
-Once everyone is finished with these steps, we will discuss the closure of acting out their act and scene.
This will take all day of the second day with all 45 minutes.

-To those who need differentiated instruction, I will incorporate my time with them to assist them
in completing the lesson if their need is extreme.
-For the technology part, I plan on having the students bring their laptops or ipads to assist with
this assignment. If the student has no technology they can bring, I will provide one laptop that
can be passed around, for the Prezi should take at most 10 minutes to complete.
Closure: To close this lesson, I have planned for the students to act out their Act and Scene that they were
chosen to dissect.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
The formative assessment will be when the student is able to decipher Shakespeares work during a test, which
means either multiple choice or short answer. The summative assessment is when they are able to retain the
information and be able to comprehend it throughout the semester to where they can be tested on it during the
final.
MODIFICATIONS:
For the students who did not meet the requirements of this assignment, as in did not attend class, there will not
be an in class make up. You will have to complete this assignment at home on your own time within a week of
being absent to get credit for the assignment.
For enrichment activities, the students will be given the option to expand and do more scenes. That expansion
will count towards extra credit.

This page is the handout that the students will be provided.

Shakespearean Handout:
For this assignment, you will be paired in groups of five. In these
groups of five, one will be the reader, the website scribe, the
scene summarizer, the one who gets the acting out of play
together, and the last will help whenever needed.
I stated these tasks, for you will be assigned an act and a scene to
decipher.
After being assigned a scene and an act, you will create a Prezi. A
Prezi is a website that is basically an online graphic organizer.
The topic will be the act and scene you are assigned, and there
will be four, maybe five, subtopics. Characters, setting, plot,
summary, and possibly added information that might be needed to
help your peers understand anything in your act and scene better.
When completed, you will assign yourself names of the characters
and be prepared to act out the scene. (you can use your book to
read out of while acting it out)
The book you will be getting the information out of it
Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet.

This page consists of the link to the Prezi document that sets an example for the students of
what their finished online product looks like.
