like the ideal Beat. It also helped me get an idea for what it was like
being African American at that time.
Cassady, Carolyn. Off the Road: My Years with Cassady, Kerouac, and
Ginsberg. New
York: Willam Morrow and Company Inc., 1990.
Carolyn Cassady, Neals second wife, reveals why he was so charming.

between Jack and Neal and how they spoke to each other
Cook, Bruce. The Beat Generation. New York: Charles Scribners Sons,
1971.
Bruces thoughts about Jack Kerouac reiterated the characteristic of
Jack as an observer rather than a doer. This was critical to
understanding how important Neal was for Jack since Neal was a doer
for Jack to observe and then write about in On the Road.
Ginsburg, Allen. The Essential Ginsburg. Edited by Michael
Schumacher. New York:
HarperCollins Publishers, 2015.
The letters in this book gave insights into the relationship between the
original Beats, that is Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and Neal Cassady.

Jack.
Mortenson, Erik. Capturing the Beat Moment: Cultural politics and the
Poetics of Presence. Carbondale and Edwardsville, IL: Southern Illinois
University Press, 1970.
This book helped me find information on Neal Cassady. It also
emphasized the importance of spontaneity to the Beats.
Newhouse, Thomas. The Beat Generation and the Popular Novel in the
United States

This book explained why Jack Kerouacs book was so influential.
Sterrit, David. Mad to be Saved: The Beats, the 50s and Film.

facts on Kerouac.
