Vote for Me
I believe that Bernie Sanders should be the next president because he, like every
president should be, is wanting the people to make a stand. He believes that the people are the
power for the government, not that government gives people power. This means that the
government should be scared of its people, and not vice-versa.
I believe that the Bernie Sanders should be president because he connects with the
people. He isnt a dictator who wants power, rather a person who is a citizen like everyone else.
His ideals, genuine attitude and plan are what have me as a supporter. In his presidential
candidacy announcement, he said
As someone who has never run a negative political ad in his life, my campaign will be
driven by issues and serious debate; not political gossip, not reckless personal attacks or
character assassination. This is what I believe the American people want and deserve. I
hope other candidates agree, and I hope the media allows that to happen. Politics in a
democratic society should not be treated like a baseball game, a game show or a soap
opera. The times are too serious for that.(https://berniesanders.com/berniesannouncement/)
That statement, to me, made from the very beginning, just proves how important this campaign is
to him, and how important the future of the citizens of this country are to him.
Earlier, I stated that his ideals are one of the reasons why he has my support. On his
website, there is a timeline of the activities he has been a part of. In January, 1962 he was a

Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) officer (https://berniesanders.com/). His website also says
that he lead students in a multi-week sit-in to oppose segregation in off-campus housing owned
by the University of Chicago(https://berniesanders.com/). Not only was he a CORE officer, but
he also took an overnight bus to go hear Martin Luther King Jr.s I Have a Dream speech in
August, 1963 (https://berniesanders.com/). Anyone can say that the lives of others matter to
them, that is the popular thing to say these days, but you know that they are genuine when they
were an actual part of fighting for civil rights. Genuity being my next reason as to why he has my
vote. In his presidential candidacy announcement, he said that he would choose to avoid slander
and attacking other candidates. In an interview with CNN, he actually acted out what he said at
his candidacy announcement by avoiding the question If Bill Clintons sexual history is fair
game, and responding with what issues he feels needs to be worked on (CNN Interview). This
demonstrates that what he said was not said to get votes; the things that Bernie Sanders says are
things that he means. For a president to be a good president, they have to have a plan. A few
things in Bernie Sanders plan regard equality. On his website, it states how he is fighting for
LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender) equality, and how he actually supported it during
his time as senator.
Senator Sanders has been a longtime supporter of LGBT rights. In 1983, during his first
term as Mayor of Burlington, Sen. Sanders supported the citys first ever Pride Parade.
He later signed a city ordinance banning housing discrimination
(https://berniesanders.com/issues/fighting-for-lgbt-equality/).
While he may seem to have a great character, Bernie Sanders s statements have been
analyzed by a fact checker to see how valid they are. While seventy percent of his statements
vary from half-true to true, thirty percent of his statements vary from mostly-false to false

(Bernie Sanders's File.). This would make him seem like a dishonest person. I can understand
that point, but when you think about politics, not every candidate will be flat out honest.
In conclusion, I believe that the ideals Bernie has; his genuine attitude to make this race
strictly about the issues, not about the gossip; and his plan are what make him fit to be the next
president of the United States of America.
