Criterion reference
1A.1

App 1: Marvel Comics

Basic Use
The app is targeted towards fans of Marvel comics, but probably the older side of the fan base as the app includes a store to buy
and read comics on your phone, a section to read about certain story arcs and there is also a part of the app dedicated to all the
writers and artists that have worked on a comic for Marvel. This may not interest the younger audience.

Purpose
The purpose of the app is to read comics, there is a store that allows you to buy almost any comic from Marvel and read it on any
device that has the app installed including PCs, tablets and smartphones. The app also has a lot of information about writers and
artists, such as what they worked on and general information about them.

Platform
The app runs on any smartphone and tablet.

Hardware
Hardware wise it does not need much at all but it does require Android 2.2 and up or iOS 8 or later if you are using an iPhone, iPad
or iPod touch.

Interface
The app is really easy to navigate as it has a simple menu that allows you get anywhere in the app in just a couple taps, there is
also a search bar at the top of the screen where you can enter a writer, comic series and much more then it will take you to a page
with what you are looking for. When you are reading a comic the book page will take up the whole screen then you just swipe left or
right to go back and forward through the book. Last of all when you use the search bar there is a microphone option allowing you to
say the name of the artist, superhero or comic series you are looking for and it will show what you searched. Interactivity The app is
very basic as all you do is tap on what you want and swipe left and right to navigate the app and the comics within it. You can also
use the microphone to search for what you need in the search bar.

Integration
The app does not require you to use your GPS location, social media account or anything like that, all it needs is a device to run on.
You can use your microphone to search for stuff, but you dont need to.

Intended use
One feature of the app is how it allows you to store up to 12 comics onto the device to read offline, this means you can use the app
for its intended purpose (which is to read comics) while both online and off.

Usability
The app allows you to log into your Marvel account on any device, meaning you can read your comics on your Android smartphone
and iPad at the same time. This feature makes the app really user friendly.

Appeal to the audience

One feature on the app is that any physical comics you own have a code you can enter on the app to get a digital version of it. This
means older people that have collected comics over the years can have a digital copy of their books to take on the go, rather than
carry around hundreds of comics with them.

App 2: Facebook Messenger

Basic Use
The app is targeted towards people that want to talk to their friends, family, work colleges and pretty much anybody that allows them
to.

Purpose
The purpose of the app is to message people for either just a chat, to work on a joint project, get help with something and much
more. As long as both you and the other person / people you are talking to have an internet connection you can talk in real time
from anywhere.

Platform

The app runs on any smartphone, tablet, mac and PC.

Hardware
Hardware wise it does not need much at all, just an internet connection. But it does require iOS 7.0 and above.

Interface
The screen layout is really simplistic but thats not a bad thing, it doesnt need to be anything special. There are very few buttons on
the app meaning you can get to what you want with ease, when you want to message someone you can find them by either
searching for their name or if you have messaged them before they will appear on the front page. Every person on messenger has
there Facebook profile picture as there display picture on messenger, meaning you will always know who you are talking to by
looking at the name and picture.

Integration
Facebook messenger can use your camera and microphone to do video messages and calls with other people.

Intended use
One feature on the app is the ability to send documents to other people, this allows users to use messenger to work on joint work.

Usability
The app allows you to log into your account on multiple devices at once meaning you can be messaging somebody on your PC
then carry on the conversation on your phone once you have moved away from the computer.

Appeal to the audience

One feature of the app is the video messaging, this helps it appeal to friends and family that live a long distance from one another
and dont get to see each other a whole lot.
