the Course Objectives
Name of Teaching Candidate: SHAREEFAH PEREIRA
Date of Work: April 3, 2016
5. Become familiar with science and environmental education teaching
research base, resource materials, and professional organizations and be
able to recognize and use appropriate criteria for selecting and using
activities for science and environmental education instruction.
Name of artifact that demonstrates your competence in meeting this
objective:

Project Look Sharp: Constructivist Media Decoding Happy Feet Lesson Plan; I
created a lesson plan for first graders and presented to my classmates,
professor and workshop facilitator while receiving all of their constructive
feedback.

How does this artifact demonstrate your competency in meeting this

objective?

For this artifact I created a lesson on global warming for first graders based on
the philosophy and ideas of Project Look Sharp at Ithaca College. The lesson
concept was to deconstruct any myths and misconceptions media plays on
our personal views. I volunteered to present the lesson to my classmates
because I embrace and value the challenge of continuous improvement.
The artifact that I have selected has the commentary from Chris Sperry who is
the Curriculum and Staff Development director from Project Look Sharp. I
decided to leave the comments that Mr. Sperry left, while I was presenting, so
that my classmates could also learn from my mistakes and read his advice.

How does the artifact inform your thinking about teaching? Include any
other reflections and/or comments.

This experience taught me to understand how content and skill development

can be supported by media and technology. I was taught how to evaluate
resources for quality, accuracy and effectiveness. I learned to value flexibility
and reciprocity in the teaching process.
Because I see myself as a continuous learner I know that as a teacher I will
need to receive continuous professional feedback to evaluate my own
performance and to enhance my ability to be an effective teacher.
