The main purpose of this water park project was to allow students to explore what it is

like to be in a career involving architecture, or something as little as designing plans for a room.
The project provided a fun and interactive way for students to learn this skill along with many
math skills along the way.
Task 1: I was tasked with the objective of plotting out multiple entrance points on the graph
paper for points of interest. I was also asked to find the center point of the paper, in order to
create a scale. In order to conserve space I kept the points of interest very spaced out.
Task 2: I was tasked with finding the coordinates for their entrance points. This played a crucial
role in later areas of the project, and I had a few numbers off. This made many parts of task 3
and 4 incorrect for me.
Task 3: In this task the objective was for me to calculate the slope between certain attraction
points. This simulated calculating the travel distance between points, and the overall size of the
park. This was done with the formula y2-y1/x2-x1.
Task 4: In this task the objective was for me to calculate midpoints with the midpoint formula.
This can be used in a scenario were customers at the waterpark need to meet in between points
of interest.
Task 5: In this task by using a distance formula and two coordinate points, I was tasked with
finding the distance (in square spaces) between each interest point. The purpose of his
objective was to find out how spaced out my attractions were.
Task 6: In this task my object was to simulate a total size (301m x 196m) for the water park (in
meters), and by using coordinate points find the simulated distance between these points. If this
were to be an actual waterpark, this would be crucial in blueprint design.
Task 7: In this task my objective was to calculate the slope for each connected set of entrance
points. This process was crucial to task 8.
Task 8: Here my objective was to find where certain lines connecting entrance points crossed
over each other by using the substitution method. This could be useful in a situation where
paths were being made to each entrance point, thus avoiding construction issues.
Overall in this project I feel that I did fine. In tasks 2-5, I made some mistakes when
getting the coordinates to certain locations on my graph, which caused many of my answers to
be wrong. This could have been easily avoided if in task 1 I did a better job when taping the
graph paper together.
If I could change anything about this project I would make the park be drawn on one big
sheet of graph paper instead of 4 smaller pieces. This would make the graph much more
visually appealing and easy to read.
This project could help me design blueprints and scale out designs and additions for my
house or public property. This project also taught me how to create equations much more
efficiently, helping me in many scenarios in the future.
