A Modest Proposal

To Discourage and Prevent Anti-American Behavior between Individuals

and Groups in Inner-City and Suburban Settings Countrywide
Two-thousand-five-hundred and seventy-nine. Six-hundred and fifty-eight.
Respectively, these numbers represent the number of gun-related incidents and
resulting deaths since only January 1st, 2016. Gun violence is a disease that needs
to be eradicated now, at any cost, because at this rate many more lives will be lost
as approximations say the death total will reach nearly fourteen-thousand for the
year. The general population will want to fight against these injustices, naturally, as
they will resist oppression and violence. The American government has a duty and
responsibility to aid us in this task, more so than ever before.
In a hostile zone abroad, where gun violence is an everyday occurrence, the
solution is obvious. Weaponry. This is why I give this call to action, that the
government do the moral and logical thing and arm Americans countrywide,
regardless of gender, race, or even age. Every citizen, young or old, deserves to be
able to defend themselves, and to do so properly, they must be armed with an M4
assault rifle. Armed with such a lethal, death-dealing weapon, the general public are
given a chance to properly use their second amendment right to bear arms and
defend their homes from those who would harm them.
The obvious benefit of what Ill call The Arming is that no hostile situation
will go unchecked. There will be a drastic decrease in incidents such as muggings,
armed robbery, rape, and others of that nature. Criminals will give their choices a
second thought under the assumption that their target is armed and dangerous.
Why assault and rob an innocent lady if her ten-year son witnesses his mothers
mugging and physical battery, and can alleviate the situation himself? The direct
benefits are undeniable, also strongly outweighing the potential drawbacks to the
plan. The American public will finally have its chance to stand up to injustice without
the aid of silly law-enforcement officers.
Concerning law enforcement: If this plan were to come into effect, the
millions upon millions of dollars spent on the law enforcement agencies of the
country could be cut significantly, as their usefulness will decrease ten-fold. Why, do
you ask? The citizens of this great country are undoubtedly willing to defend the
laws set before them by our leaders, but the only inhibitor in this equation is the
lack of ability to do so. Put simply, as the NRAs Vice President Wayne LaPierre said,
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. The
United States of America is running over the brim with good guys, all willing and
soon to be able to band together and defend the law of the land in this great
country.
Threats from outside the nation are innumerable in amount and must be
dealt with swiftly and effectively; however, these threats are not the only one that
should not be taken lightly. There is a very real and very serious threat that looms
over the heads of the American public every single day. The government. The
United States government is the strongest organization in the world, capable of

nearly anything. This, effectively, makes them very dangerous. Thus far they have
been benevolent and helpful, but what happens if that were to change? Would the
general public be in any position to defend themselves from the onslaught of the
strongest organization on the planet? The answer is obvious. In order to prevent this
eventuality, the proper precautions must be taken. The only thing that can possibly
influence a government to remain benevolent is the threat of a coup dtat, a
revolution. In order to retain our right as Americans to revolt and overthrow an
unjust government, an issued M4 Carbine service rifle is mandatory to achieve our
goals. The possible outcomes justify the troubles this country would go through in
arming the public.
While many may think, Why arm everyone? Why not just take the guns
away? If we were to remove weapons by law, those who would obtain those same
weapons illegally will still be in possession of them, leaving the general population
unprotected even more so. This will cause even more gun violence, arming
everyone! These rifles will be tracked using serial numbers and other complex
methods, so those who aim to commit atrocities will be quickly and efficiently
apprehended, therefore eliminating the threat of using these same weapons for the
forces of evil.
Life is precious, so it is only logical to protect it. In order to preserve the lives
of my beloved fellow citizens of this great, free country, I will stop at nothing to rid
this beautiful place of the rampant disease that is gun violence. Take note that I am
no simple gun salesman trying to make some money by duping those I care about, I
am just another citizen that is in much danger and is in need of these changes as
each and every other person out there. As the great Greek statesmen Pericles said,
Freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it.
This courage will not come without The Arming, so the acceptance of this plan is
imperative to the continued freedom of this nation.
