CATHOLIC CEMETERIES ARCHDIOCESE OF LOUISVILLE (502) 451-7710 MAILING ADDRESS, P.0.BOX 4096 LOUISVILLE, KY 49204 OFFICE 1600 NEWBURGROAD March 30, 2016 Dear Greg and Michael, Thank you for your patience while we considered your request concerning a proposed monument for the grave lot you purchased at Saint Michael Cemetery. First let me reaffirm your decision to have Saint Michael Cemetery serve as your site for burial at some time in future. The services of the Catholic Cemeteries are a ministry of the Archdiocese of Louisville. We offer the sacred rite of burial to the Catholic community and to all of God's people. A Catholic cemetery is a sacred place that serves the faithful and witnesses to the Good News of Jesus Christ and the hope we share in the resurrection. To this end, it is a place where the signs and symbols of our Catholic faith are displayed with pride and reverence. Having reviewed your proposed gravestone inscription please note we can approve your shared stone with both your names and dates of birth and of course the religious symbol of the cross. However, we cannot approve the depiction of the Supreme Court building and the use of wedding rings. Inscriptions on grave markers are permitted so long as they do not conflict with any teachings of the Church. Your proposed markings are not in keeping with this requirement. Determination as to the appropriateness of any inscription or symbol is the judgment of the Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries in consultation with proper Church authority. FA If you wist/ us to review another design please let me know. Meanwhile may this Easter season be a time of fenewal for all of us. Executive Director (CALVARYCEMETERY ST. JOHNCEMETERY ST.
