POL S 384 Global Environmental Politics (5) I&S

Examines the globalization of environmental problems, including climate
change, ozone depletion, and loss of biodiversity, as well as the
globalization of political responses to these problems within the
framework of globalization as set of interlinked economic, technological,
cultural, and political processes. Offered: jointly with ENVIR 384.
I am drawn to this course because it incorporates several topics which I am
very passionate about. This course incorporates politics, science and economics and
demonstrates the ways in which all of these areas of study are interconnected. I
grew up reading the newspaper and watching the new so politics has always
interested me. Science challenges me I am eager to learn more. Also, I plan to
major in Business so I feel a need to always pursue opportunities to learn about
economics, especially on a global scale. I believe that one of my obligations as a
global citizen is to learn more about the world around me and this class will help me
achieve that goal.

HONORS 221 Science for Honors Students II (5, max. 15) NW

Evolution of an idea or concept central to the natural sciences. Intended
for non-science majors. The theory of evolution by natural selection is the
underlying theme that unites all fields of biology. In this course we will
cover the basic principles of evolution, explore ways in which evolutionary
theory can be applied to human biology and behavior, and consider how
evolutionary thinking might guide the development of social policy.
Although science has always challenged me, I always felt a need to learn
more about it. When I first registered for classes I had the clear intention of
involving science into my major to some extent. Throughout the course of this
quarter, the likelihood of that goal has faded. Still I find myself with a strong passion
to explore science because it can explain so much of how the world functions in the
manor that it does. This course specifically appealed to me because it takes a
scientific approach to explaining many of the events that we can observe around
the world and in our everyday lives. I hope to take this course because it will
challenge me to look at the world around me through a different lens.

FIN 428 International Financial Management (4)

Analysis of financial problems facing businesses engaged in international
activities. Financing foreign investment, financial control of foreign
operations, and working capital management including foreign exchange
positions using cases and readings.
We live in a world where all events are interconnected. The Global economy serves
as one of the greatest examples of this idea. Trading and investing in one small
country can drastically affect the price of goods for citizens thousands of miles
away. This course offers an opportunity to more fully understand our complex Global
Economy. I would be extremely excited to take this course because it would provide
an opportunity for me to expand my understanding of the world around me.
