ArticleIIPURPOSE

Section1.

ThemissionoftheAmericanIndianScienceandEngineeringSocietyUniversityof
WashingtonChapter(AISESUW)istosubstantiallyincreasetherepresentationofAmerican
Indians,AlaskanNatives,NativeHawaiians,PacificIslanders,FirstNationsandother
IndigenouspeoplesofNorthAmericainscience,technology,engineeringandmath(STEM)
studiesandcareers.WeaimtocombinetraditionalNativevalueswiththeSTEMfields.

ArticleIIIMEMBERSHIP

Section1.
Membershipofthisorganizationshallconsistofenrolledundergraduateandgraduate
studentsoftheUniversityofWashington.TobeamemberoftheAISESUWChapter,youhave
tobeamemberoftheNationalAISESOrganization.Onlythosememberswhoarecurrently
registeredUniversityofWashingtonstudentsandaremembersoftheNationalAISES
Organizationhavevotingprivileges.
Section2.
Universitystaffandfaculty,andnonUniversitypersonsmayhaveassociate
membershipstatusiftheyaremembersoftheNationalAISESOrganization.However,theymay
nothavevotingprivileges.
Section3.
AllmembersmustsignthecodeofconductfortheNationalAISESOrganization
everynewschoolyear.
Section4.
ToremainanactivememberoftheChapter,themembermustspendatleast1hour
participatinginChapterrelatedactivitiespermonth.ActivitiesincludeChaptermeetingsand
Chapterevents.

ArticleIVAFFILIATIONS

Section1.
InaffiliationwiththeNationalAISESOrganization(AmericanIndianScienceand
EngineeringSociety).

Section2.
AISESUWChaptershallfollowtheguidelinessetoutbytheNationalAISES
Organization,supportthemissionofAISES,andtakepartinlocal,regional,andnationalevents
associatedwiththeChapter.

ArticleVCHAPTERORGANIZATIONANDOPERATION

Section1.
BytheendofspringquarteraPresident,VicePresident,Secretary,Treasurerand
PublicRelationsofficershallbeelectedtoserveduringthefollowingacademicyear.Ifanyof
thesepositionsarenotfilled,electionscanbeheldthefollowingautumnquartertofillthe
remainingpositions.

Section2.
IfthePresidentisunabletoserveduringanypartoftheelectedterm,the
VicePresidentwilltakeoverresponsibilitiesandifneedbe,willbecomethePresidentforthe
remainderoftheterm.

Section3.
IfanyelectedofficersbesidesthePresidentareunabletoserveduringanypartof
theelectedterm,theremainingofficerswilldesignateamemberoftheChaptertofillthe
vacancybymajorityvote.Allofficersarerequiredtocastavoteandattendthemeetingwhen
thevoteistakingplace.

Section4.
Generaldutiesoftheofficersareasfollows:

a. ThePresidentistheAISESUWChapterleader.ThePresidentwillinform
AISESUWChaptermemberswhen/wheremeeting/eventsareandwillleadall
meetings,unlessanotherpersonisdesignated.ThePresidentwillmeetwithother
leadersofthecommunity,universityandindustrytorepresenttheAISESUW
Chapterunlessanotherpersonisdesignated.ThePresidentwilladvocatefor
memberparticipationandallAISESUWChapterevents.ThePresidentwillhave
accessestotheChapterbankaccountandwiththetreasurewillsignforanymoney
thatwillbewithdrawninthenameoftheChapter.ThePresidentwillfacilitateinany
grant/scholarshipapplications.
b. TheVicePresidentwillserveintheabsenceofthePresident.TheVicePresident
willadvocateformemberparticipationandallAISESUWChapterevents.The
VicePresidentwillbeinchargeofgettingmeetingrefreshmentsandstudysessions.
TheVicePresidentwillfacilitateinanygrant/scholarshipapplications.
c. TheSecretarywillmaintainrecordsofmeetingminutes/notes,membershipandany
filesassociatedwiththeChapter.TheSecretarywillmakethesedocuments
availabletoallmembersoftheChapter.
d. TheTreasurerisauthorizedtotheChapterbankaccountandanywillmanageany
fundstheChapterreceives.TheTreasurewillhaveaccessestotheChapterbank
accountandwiththePresidentwillsignforanymoneythatwillbewithdrawninthe
nameoftheChapter.TheTreasurerwillfacilitateinanygrant/scholarship
applications.TheTreasurerwillcreateabudgetfortheChapterandupdatethe
budgetafteranymoniesarewithdrawnandadded.

e. ThePublicRelationsOfficerwillresponsibletoupdateallsocialmediasites(website,
Facebooketc.)andoutreach.ThePublicRelationsOfficerwilladvocateformember
participationandallAISESUWChapterevents.
f. GraduateStudentRepresentative
g. FreshmanLeadershipBoard:FLBmemberswillworkwiththeotherofficerstohelp
completetask.Thepurposeofthispositionistoteachfreshmanhowtobean
effectiveleaderwhileservingothers.(Thispositionisforstudentsthatwillbe
freshmanduringthecurrentschoolyear,butothersmaybeconsideredunder
request)

ArticleVINOMINATIONANDELECTION

Section1.
Amembercanbenominatedforanofficerpositionorbeselfnominatedforeach
election.Foramembertobeanomineetheymustbe:

a. AmemberofAISESUWChapter
b. HavebeenamemberoftheChapterforatleastonequarter.Iftheelectionsare
continuedthroughthefollowingautumnquarter,aFreshman/transferstudentthatis
newtoUWcanbeanominee.StudentsthatarenotnewtoUWandnotan
AISESUWChaptermember,butwanttorunforanofficerpositioncanbea
nomineeifnonenooneelserunsforthatofficerposition
c. Understandsthedutiesrequiredfordesiredposition.

Section2.
AllmembersoftheChapterwillbenotifiedwhenelectionsareheldandcanvotefor
anynomineetobeelectedfortheirdesiredposition.

Section3.
ElectionswillbeheldduringaformalChaptermeetingattheendofspringquarter.
Officerswillbeelectedbymajorityvoteandwillserveforaoneyearterm.

ArticleVIIMEETINGS

Section1.
Regularformalmeetingsshallbeheldbimonthly.Informalmeetingwillalsobeheld
throughouteachquarter.Memberswillbenotifiedthemeetingtimeandplaceviaemail.The
quorumshallconsistof60percentofvotingmemberspresentatanyformalorspecialmeeting.

ArticleVIIIADVISERANDSPONSORS

Section1.
Thereshallbe1(ormore)facultyorstaffadviserswhoshallbeexofficiomembers
withnovotingprivileges.

Section2.
AdvisersshallbeselectedbyamajorityvoteofthemembersoftheAISESUW
Chapter.Uponselectionadvisersareexpectedtoattendonemeetingpermonthandsupport
AISESUWChapteractivities.

ArticleIXCONSTITUTIONALAMENDMENTS

Section1
.Thisconstitutionmaybeamendedbyavoteofmajoritymembershipatanyformal
Chaptermeeting.

Section2.
Allproposedamendmentstotheconstitutionmustbesubmittedinwritingtothe
ChapterPresidentatleast24hourspriortotheformalChaptermeeting.Foreachamendment,
anewformmustbefilledoutandsubmitted.
Section3.
Iftheamendmentisapproved,thePresidentoftheChapterordesignatedpersons
willgettheconstitutionupdatedwiththeUniversityofWashingtonStudentActivitiesOfficeat
leasttwoweeksaftertheamendmentisapproved.
