Dear Matt Wilson,

Coming into this class I was worried about my writing. I've been told that my writing is
aggressive, but that my skills are not up to standards with my grade level. To be honest this is
only partially my fault. Throughout my high school education, many students, including myself,
have been deprived from proper education. This was due to the economic state of my hometown.
Many teachers abused their authority, since many other staff members neglected the students as
well. In my AP writing classes my teachers just complained about LAUSD school system. We
never learned anything about writing, but instead knew about our teachers pathetic personal
lives. Coming into college with this useless knowledge was threatening.
Luckily this class actually benefited my writing. At first I thought I was going to be
judged in this class for my inferiority in writing. I'm glad that the only remarks i received was
constructive criticism. Most of the beneficial critique was received through my WPs.
Throughout the WPs I've learned that my audience is key in making an effective paper.
This correlation helped me understand the problem with my previous papers. I have always
written in a way that showed I had high expectations in my audience. I would leave out
information that I thought was unnecessary detail or explanation. This information i left out
turned out to be a crucial part in helping my audience better understand the topic at hand. By
acknowledging who my audience was I was able to use the proper evidence and appropriate tone
in my writing. This lead to the new thesis Although both explore similar topics such as
sociopaths through the means of psychology, each collects their findings through different
strategies. Evolutionary psychology is more focused on personal observation and fieldwork,
while experimental psychology focuses more on numerical data and observations. Because of

this each community contributes to different aspects of psychology. I found this suitable since it
meant I would need to give an insight of the expectations in each academic field.
Revising WP2 was a challenge since it required a new audience. This caused a change in
my thesis since it had to be something that appealed to the new audience. This process distorted
my entire paper. Although this paper revolved around strategies and academic interpretations it
was not as insightful of the expectations in a classroom studying one of these fields. I needed to
recreate my paper that would further emphasize the difference in the disciplines of the
communities.
My WP3 revolves around what the audience wants and who they should be. This is what
my thesis is based on The best way to translate the journal would be to mimic the conventions
of a .Mic news article in order to effectively reach the most ideal audience (college students).
They are the population that can help address the problem and make use of this information in
their community. In my WP3 i focus on what makes .Mic the perfect translation for my new
audience. I try to explain the sites popularity and resourcefulness while at the same time defining
why it was the best choice. This writing process helped establish the connections between
multiple conceptual theories in the class (WP3 Conclusion).
I hope to improve more on my writing by focusing on the main ideas discussed
throughout the quarter. This is not one of those classes where you abandon half the things you
learned immediately after. This class is related to many things (genres) in life. It would be
difficult and stupid to disregard everything Ive learned here. I was hoping to improve and Ive
definitely have.

Ps: Im not expecting pity from the first paragraph

Thank you, and have a great summer
