Richard Jack, was an European painter of portraits, who became canadas first official
war artist in 1916 and painted The second battle of Ypres, 22nd April to 25th may 1915. In this
painting Jack portrayed the Canadians stand during the Second battle of ypres, which he
himself did not witness. Apart from this paintings massive size and beauty, Jack also depicted
the vast deaths and anguish that this second battle had to offer.
Henry burr was a canadian singer of popular songs in the early 20th century, one song
that Burr wrote that helped glorify the war was send me Away with A Smile in 1916, the whole
song was describing a patriotic man who wants to go to war and fight along side the other men
in his hometown, so in all , this song was trying to help inform men about how fighting in the war
is a privilege and an honor.
