May

It was Mothers Day 1999, a Sunday

and May 8th - the Feast-day of the
second son of the Theotokos (St John
the Evangelist) upon which the very
first Aghiasmo service was performed
at the Brotherhood - thus inaugurating
the sure protection we had and always
have from the Mother of God.

The transformation to date of yiayias

house came about slowly and steadily.
With the blessings of Metropolitan Isaiah
the very first liturgy in the chapel of Saint
George took place on the Saturday of the
Assumption Greek Festival weekend in
1999. While as Christians we are all called
to transform our way of thinking from
the material to the spiritual (see Rom. 12),
the transformation takes place throughout
the whole entire time of our life!

July is a special month

dedicated to numerous Saints.
Let us note that in the lives of
Prophet Elias, Saint Marina and
Aghia Anna (the mother of the
Theotokos and grandmother of
our Savior), steadfastness in faith
is both a fright to the demons
and a delight to Gods Angels!

Let us rejoice! The Cross of Christ is both our power through

adversity and the symbol of victory. In the liturgy the priest says,
through the cross joy has come into all the world.

Of the greatest, most

knowledgable, most beautiful
- and yet most modest women
saints of the Church is Saint
Katherine. She and Saint
Nektarios join the Archangels
in November in giving all of
us encouragement to acquire
virtues as we tread the earth
always looking toward heaven!

Without question, of the greatest

Saints that the Church has ever
produced is Saint Nicholas and as
Orthodox we know this to the full
extent. Yet even the world recognizes
his selfless and always giving character
(Santa Clause or Jolly Ol St. Nick).
At the Brotherhood we are grateful to
have the little chapel in the gardens
of Saint Nicholas.

The persons of The Three Hierarchs

(Basil the Great, John Chrysostom
and Gregory the Theologian), are
foundational to our holy orthodox
faith. It is therefore that we chose
to feature them prominently in
the chapel of Saint George that the
faithful would be inspired by their
standing by in times of worship.
