1. BACKGROUND :
URBAN DYNAMICS : Change in Urban environments in order to provide a
historical perspective of land use change and assessment of the spatial patterns, rates,
correlation, trends and impact of that change

This will help us in understanding the various aspects of the city elements such as,
the change in the land use pattern, urban fabric, connectivity of different zones, new
trends and its impact, potential of the city to grow in one direction.

If this growth is not planned or designed then it will result in altering the environment
such that it will harm and break the pre existing equilibrium and transforms the
social conditions.

It can result in the dramatic population settlements on the steep eroded hills,
neighborhood in contaminated lands, settlement in water catchment areas and flood
prone areas.
THREATNING HUMAN LIFES.

2. INTRODUCTION :
CITY CENTRE : Major core area of the city which has its own significance in terms of
location, activity, character, function and land use.

City CENTRE of the Urban area will cater multifunctional activity areas like,
commercial, tourist, recreational, entertainment, shopping, political power or
government authority buildings, medical centers, financial institutions etc.

The experts of the city are often located at these city CENTREs like lawyers, doctors,
academicians, government officials, bureaucrats, entertainers, directors and financers,
etc

In the recent decades, the combination of gentrification (residential expansion) and

development of shopping malls as entertainment has given a city CENTRE a new
look and new life.

Hence now we can find in addition to housing, mega malls, theaters, museums, and
stadiums part of city CENTRE.

3. RESEACH STATEMENT :
How far social spaces play a dynamic role in defining the urban character
of the city CENTRE in terms of bringing people together for tourism, recreational, and
entertainment needs?

4. KEY ISSUES:

Defining Urban Dynamics in city CENTRE.

Analyse the important urban character through the growth of the city.

Defining the multiple usage of city CENTRE and important areas of development in
Hyderabad.

Time line study and the growth of the city CENTREs in Hyderabad city.

Map references to understand the location of the different important city CENTREs and to
understand the distance and connectivity between them.

Urban character of the city CENTRE.

Identifying the important social activity (active and passive )spaces in Hyderabad .

Social spaces from historic times to now and whether they are having same significance form
then to now

Adaptive reuse of the historic areas without spoiling the heritage of the area.

5. AIM :

Understand the transformation of the City CENTRES and the related Social activities in the
Urban context of Hyderabad.

5.1 OBJECTIVES ;

To study the growth pattern of Hyderabad by locating important city CENTRES in different
locations and also important social activities of different periods.

To understand the connectivity and the dependency of social spaces located in different
location of the city.

To locate the areas which were very important city CENTREs during olden days and now
neglected.

To identify the potential and scope of development of the identified area.

To solve the major problem of conflict between public and the government by making a active
public participation in taking suggestion and ideas and handing over the maintenance part and
also to have some % of profit from the revenue generated by the development.

6.KEY RESEARCH :

Regional map of development of the city CENTREs of Hyderabad.

Chronological list of city CENTREs of Hyderabad City.

Time line order of the development of the city CENTREs and social spaces.

List of existing social spaces.

Scope and access of approach from different parts of the Hyderabad.

Positive approach to save heritage and also to have a adaptive reuse of the area such that it will
become a most important element of the urban area.

7. SURVEY :

To identify the area which is most liked to be visited for the weekend.

To know the duration people want to spend on weekend out door with family and friends.

To know whether people will like to spend the time outdoor for leisure during weekdays.

To know the desired location of the space and the nature of the social space ( Mall/ Food
Court/ Multiplex ).

8. INFERENCES:

Majority of the people who belong to different nature of their work preferred the necklace road
as the 1st preference.

The reason is that it is easily accessible and well designed area with good recreational facilities.

The new development around the Hussain Sagar attracts most of the people from the city,
where as Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Chowmohalla Palace are the old heritage structures which
attracts most of the foreign tourist.

They feel old part of the city has reached its stagnation hence further development is not
possible.

Yet few people are still willing to have some recreational activity in the old part of the city.

Many old heritage structure has a potential to cater the activity of recreation attracting local
people and promote tourism through the existing heritage of the building or the area around it.

As there is no properly organized social activity in the old part of the city, people are opting for
the areas which are newly developed.

9. RECOMMENDATIONS:

Important old structures and the areas which have been the identity, and the glory of
the Hyderabad city should be made more dominant by developing the surrounding
areas.

Policy preparations.

Policy should be made in order to bring harmony in growth and development of the
area without breaking the vicinity of the area.

Policy stating that improvement of adaptive reuse of the area.

Educating the people about the importance of old and new development and
improvement in their area.

Involving people by taking open suggestions from them in order to reduce the conflict
between the proposal and the local people, this will help in retaining the sense of
belongingness to the people of that area.

Fusing of old heritage attracting the tourist and also the latest recreational and social
activities attracting the other local crowd of Hyderabad.

10. FINAL STATEMENT :

Transformation of Social space plays a dynamic role in defining the urban
character of the CITY CENTRE in terms of bringing people together for tourism,
recreation, and entertainment needs.
